An important women’s bantamweight bout has been added to UFC 171 between Julianna Pena and Jessica Andrade. This bout was confirmed by the UFC’s The Ultimate Fighter Twitter page:
Both of these fighters are coming off impressive wins, and one more win could get them into the title picture quick, where Ronda Rousey is the current champion. Pena comes into this bout off a sterling, dominate performance against Jessica Rakoczy, which took place at TUF season finale.
In the bout, Pena dominated Rakoczy on the ground, getting the TKO stoppage in the first round. It was one of her most impressive wins, and it gave her a contract with the UFC. It was her first fight in the UFC, and she’s looking to take the bantamweight division by storm.
Andrade is coming into this fight off a beatdown over Rosi Sexton. For three straight rounds, Andrade dominated both the stand up and grappling portions of the fight, and she was never really in trouble at all. She will be hoping to put some wins together, and a win over Pena would certainly enhance her brand and her status as an elite bantamweight.
It should be a great fight between two determined bantamweights looking to get a signature win on a huge stage. It all goes down at UFC 171, which features a welterweight championship between Robbie Lawler and Johny Hendricks. If either Pena or Andrade can finish in dramatic fashion, they are one step closer to a title shot.
