One of the most talented divisions in the UFC as of late is the middleweight division. Over the recent years, it has gotten numerous contenders, some of which have come from the Strikeforce promotion. Fighters like Luke Rockhold and Ronaldo Souza have already made their stamp in the UFC, proving that Strikeforce fighters can handle the spotlight. One of the more exciting fighters in the middleweight division is Rockhold.

Rockhold has certainly come very close to fighting for the belt, but all was lost when Vitor Belfort landed one of the most dynamic spinning wheel kicks ever to happen in the UFC. Rockhold was rocked and wasn’t able to recover, and the loss snapped a nine-fight wining streak. The loss set him back quite a bit, but he’s hoping he can get back to his winning ways when he takes on Costa Philippou, which is a bout that takes place next week for UFC Fight Night.

Costa is a vet of the sport, and he’s certainly going to be stern test for Rockhold, who needs a bounce-back win.

Rockhold’s style consists of accurate strikes, often utilizing dynamic kicks to establish his range. He’s also a very competent grappler, and he’s one of the only few fighters to really hang with Souza, beating him by way of unanimous decision. If Rockhold can avoid the big punches on the feet from Costa, he’s got a great shot at getting this fight to the ground, which is where he really shines.

Not only is Rockhold an athletic middleweight, but he’s got a style that is hard to deal with. He will be hoping Costa has a hard time figuring out his puzzle, and if he can win impressively, he will instantly get his momentum back.
