The UFC‘s light heavyweight division has always been a staple for excitement. Ever since the days of Chuck Liddell, this division has been one of the UFC’s most important and enjoyable to watch. Jon Jones is the current champion of the division, and it seems like his list of challengers is getting bigger by the day.

Both Gian Villante and Fabio Maldonado are hoping to get added to this list, and it appears they have been targeted to fight on the UFC Fight Night Brazil card, which takes place later this year. Both of these light heavyweights can end the fight with one punch, which can be seen in Villante’s latest fight inside the Octagon, where he knocked out Cody Donovan inside the first round.

It was one of his biggest wins to date, and the it really showcased his striking power. Villante is a training partner of Chris Weidman, the current middleweight champ who defeated Anderson Silva twice. Training with him on a regular basis seems to be paying off, and he will be hoping to continue this wave of momentum going up against Maldonado.

Like Villante, Maldonado has power in his hands, and he has a lot of experience in the boxing realm. Having been a professional boxer, Maldonado can trade with the best of them. And what’s most amazing is how much heart he shows in every bout. He was beaten and battered against Glover Teixeira, yet he still kept coming forward. This should make for an exciting fight with Villante. Both fighters love to keep the fight on the feet, and if it remains there, this one could end rather quickly.

Both are looking to make a statement in the division, and it’s probably not going the distance.
