Talented bantamweight T.J. Dillashaw was looking to rebound after a controversial split-decision loss to Raphael Assuncao, and he accomplished that goal in a major way at UFC Fight Night 35. Dillashaw utilized his entire arsenal in securing a dominant unanimous decision victory over a game Mike Easton. It was a terrific effort by the no.6 ranked bantamweight, who has now reeled off victories in five of his last six fights.

The Team Alpha Male member continues to show solid progression under the watchful eye of head coach Duane Ludwig, and is showing the type of skill set that can make him a tough assignment for anyone in the division. Dillashaw was able to dominate Easton in what was mostly a stand-up battle as he landed the crisper combinations and also employed effective leg and head kicks.

Dillashaw had Easton bloodied and rocked after landing a shin to the veteran’s head in the middle stanza. Only “The Hulk’s” remarkable chin allowed him to last the distance.

“The Viper” didn’t get the finish in this contest, but it definitely wasn’t for a lack of effort. Dillashaw used his movement well to deliver strikes from different angles and continued to push forward in the final round as his accumulation of punishment had Easton seemingly reluctant to engage.

The pair did have a wild exchange in the final seconds and the mutual respect was obvious as the fight drew to a close. Easton showed tremendous heart, but was simply outclassed and it was reflected on the scorecards with all three judges scoring the bout 30-27. It was Easton’s third straight defeat.

Dillashaw improved to 9-2 with the win and turned in a very impressive performance in manhandling a tough veteran in such a decisive fashion. He’s poised for a major fight moving forward and is establishing himself as a possible title challenger down the road.
