Brad Tavares and Lorenz Larkin threw down last night in the co-main event of the UFC Fight Night card. It was a very entertaining middleweight scrap, one that had a lot of implications for the winner. Normally, Lorenz is able to dictate the standing battle, but this wasn’t the case against Tavares.
Tavares pressured Lorenz before he could get anything offensive going, getting takedowns when the openings were there. It was a back-and-forth war, but Tavares managed to pull it out in the end. Tavares is now on a five-fight winning streak, and he’s about to break into the top five of the middleweight division especially if he can continue to win like he did last night.
Tavares seemed to be the busier fighter last night, and he controlled the first and second round. Now, he takes a step in the middleweight rankings, and it’s going to be interesting to see who the UFC matches him up with next.
An excellent matchup for him would be against Tim Kennedy. Kennedy is a high-profile fight for him, so a win would do wonders for Tavares’ career. Also, Kennedy is a guy who likes to keep the fight standing as does Tavares, so it could be a really intriguing striking battle if ever booked.
Another opponent for him that makes a lot of sense is Luke Barnatt. Luke also is a fighter that enjoys a striking battle and rarely ever goes to the mat, so this fight makes a lot of sense for Tavares.
