Eddie Wineland is gearing up to face Yves Jabouin this weekend at UFC on Fox 10. This bout is an exciting bantamweight bout, and it’s a must-win for both.
Wineland has always been a dangerous striker with some underrated wrestling skills. He’s been able to have some great success inside the UFC, but he came up short against Renan Barao for the interim bantamweight title. Everything was going smoothly for Wineland and he even won the first round. In the second, however, he had a lapse and got caught with a perfectly-timed head kick from the champ.
The kick ended Wineland’s night, sending him back in line in the bantamweight division. Even though is was a devastating loss, Wineland still has the chance to reassert himself in the division. He’s facing a dynamic striker in Jabouin who is also in need of a win, so Wineland will need to be on his A game for the entire fight. On paper, Wineland should take this. He’s the more experienced fighter and has fought way better competition.
The only question is how is Wineland’s mindset going to be after being finished in such a devastating way? Wineland has always been mentally strong, so this shouldn’t be too much of a problem come fight night. He will establish his crisp striking early and will set the pace. Early in the fight, he will clip Jabouin, getting an impressive finish. The win would huge for Wineland, and he will show everyone that he’s still a formidable threat to the division.
