Junior Dos Santos has long been considered one of the best heavyweights in the UFC. He’s one of the most powerful punchers in the division, and he’s got some underrated jiu-jitsu skills. He’s a former champion, but hasn’t looked the same after his recent losses to Cain Velasquez.

In the rematch and trilogy fight, Cain was able to dominate JDS for five straight rounds, leaving JDS beaten and looking for answers. He may have just found one, as it appears he is leaving Team Nogueira and is transitioning to Team Nova Uniao. This is a smart move on JDS’ part because he seemed to have reached his pinnacle with the Nogueira team. The Nogueira brothers will always be a mentor for JDS, but it’s time to part ways.

At the Nova Uniao team, JDS will be training with the likes of Jose Aldo, Renan Barao, B.J. Penn and many more killers. These elite fighters, along with their exceptional trainers, should be able to show JDS new techniques and help him reinvent himself as a heavyweight in the UFC. JDS is hoping to put some wins together in hopes of fighting for the title again, and with this training camp, he’s certainly got a great shot.

One aspect of JDS’ game that has been lacking, especially in his recent fights, has been his kicking game. There aren’t a lot of heavyweights that utilize a heavy kicking game, which leaves the doors wide open for JDS. With Nova Uniao, JDS will be able to learn some great kicks from the likes of Aldo and Barao, which could make all the difference in the world.
