UFC 172: Luke Rockhold Hoping To Become A Contender With Win Over Tim Boetsch
The UFC‘s middleweight division is full of exciting finishers. Two of the most exciting are Luke Rockhold and Tim Boetsch, and it appears both of these fighters will square off for a chance at establishing themselves in the division. This bout has been booked for the UFC 172 card, which is shaping up to be one of the better cards this year.
Rockhold, ready to start his climb up the middleweight ladder, is one of the most dynamic strikers in the division. He’s got a very great kicking game, which was on full display in his latest outing against Costa Philippou. Rockhold landed body kick after body kick, and Costa was not able to keep fighting. It was Rockhold’s first victory inside the UFC, and it was an important win, as he was coming off a TKO loss to Vitor Belfort.
Boetsch will be a stern test for Rockhold, but he’s more than willing to test his skills in hopes of getting another impressive finish. Boetsch is a great wrestler, and he’s a very powerful puncher, but Rockhold will be the more dynamic striker. If Luke can keep the fight standing with Boetsch, he’s got a great shot and landing kicks that will soften Boetsch up.
It wouldn’t be of a surprise if Luke is able to finish Boetsch within the first few rounds, and if he does, he becomes an instant contender in the middleweight division. Chris Weidman is the current champ of the division, but Rockhold may have him in his sights if all goes well at UFC 172.
