UFC Fight Night kicked off tonight in Brazil, featuring an excellent middleweight bout between Ronaldo Souza and Francis Carmont. Jacare spent a majority of the fight on Carmont’s back, looking for the rear-naked choke. He wasn’t able to get the submission finish, but at the end of the day, he won the unanimous decision.

Souza, one of the best submission fighters in the UFC, was not able to finish Carmont tonight, which is a testament to the toughness and durability that Carmont has. Souza was never really in trouble in this fight, and he’s now 2-0 in the UFC. Now, he’s a top contender in the division, and it’s going to be fun to see who the UFC matches him up with next.

In terms of an opponent, Luke Rockhold would be compelling to see for meany reasons. For one, this would be a rematch. Rockhold was able to outpoint Souza back when they fought under the Strikeforce promotion, winning a unanimous decision. It would be interesting to see which fighter has improved the most since their first outing. Rockhold finally earned his first UFC win against Costa Philippou, where he was able to finish the fight with body kicks.

Souza and Rockhold are around the same place in terms of ranking, so the relevancy of the fight makes a lot of sense. So, who would you favor in a Souza vs. Rockhold rematch? Does Jacare have what it takes to be a champion?
