5 Fights for Charles Oliveira to Take Next

Jason Silva-USA TODAY Sports

Charles Oliveira has had a strange UFC career, starting as an unbeaten prospect whose submission game was seemingly unparalleled to being labelled an over-hyped fighter who has no chin. Although Oliveira hasn't been able to crack a top-10 opponent yet, the young man is only 24-years old and has five wins in the UFC, with five stoppages, five Fight Night bonuses, and is the first man to earn a 'Performance of the Night' bonus in UFC history.

Oliveira had a fairly dominant performance over Englishman Andy Ogle at UFC Fight Night: Machida vs. Mousasi, and became the first fighter to actually get a finish on the card. Probably being in Dana White and Joe Silva's good books after livening up the card, Oliveira will be looking to pair up with a top-15 fighter

Though very impressive in his win, the Brazilian jiu-jitsu ace will need a few more victories in order to erase the ghosts of his career. He has been viciously knocked out by Cub Swanson, brutalised by Donald Cerrone and tapped out by Jim Miller with a surprisingly simple kneebar. A turning point in his fight history was his bout with Frankie Edgar, where he showed newfound resilience and went three full rounds with one of the best lightweight champions in MMA history.

Most of the featherweights in the UFC rankings are currently free for a fight, and with the featherweight title picture being unclear at the moment, it would be a good idea on the UFC's part to get the division rolling as quickly as possible.

The Japanese superstar had a successful UFC debut, earning a second-round submission win after a dominant grappling exhibition. It would be interesting to see how Kawajiri would grapple with Oliveira, and the matchup could push either fighter into the top 10.

Another superstar, the brash Conor McGregor could make for a fantastic fight against Oliveira. Coming off two impressive wins, it would be a great test for the Irishman's boxing and takedown defense.

2. Clay Guida

Clay Guida was knocked out for the first time in his career by former contender Chad Mendes. Guida will be looking for a big win coming off his stoppage loss, and it would be interesting to see how his top-heavy defensive game can match up against the dynamic guard of Oliveira.

1. Erik Koch

Erik Koch had huge momentum coming into the UFC and was even linked to a title match against Jose Aldo. An injury removed him from this bout, and he never got his steam back. In his last outing, he was completely outclassed by young gun Dustin Poirier, and a matchup against Oliveira would be another great scrap.
