TUF China Finale: Dong-Hyun Kim Stuns John Hathaway With Incredible Spinning Back Elbow
Everyone knew Dong-Hyun Kim was an amazing grappler. He’s got a fourth-degree black belt in Judo, something that takes a lifetime to accomplish. Yet it’s with his striking that he is impressive people the most, and he’s been able to reel off some impressive finishes standing. In Macao, Kim was able to keep his winning streak alive, knocking out John Hathaway in the third round.
Kim, ducking Hathaway’ shot, was able to uncork a beautiful spinning back elbow that completely destroyed Hathaway. In fact, while Kim was doing backflips off the cage and celebrating the win, Hathaway was still unconscious. This is quite possibly one of the greatest knockouts in UFC history, which is amazing because it’s coming from predominantly an elite grappler.
The finish was an excellent way to cap off UFC Fight Night China, and Kim will take a huge step up in the welterweight rankings. Kim is now 19-2-1-1, having only lost to Demian Maia and Carlos Condit. The sky’s the limit for him really. He’s showing some incredible improvement on the feet, so much so that he’s actually able to finish elite strikers in the division.
For his efforts, Kim received a Performance Of The Night bonus and quite honestly, he could very well win Knockout of the Year at the Fighters Only award show.
Kim will now get a top-10 opponent in the division, and more specifically, a fight with Adlan Amagov would be a lot of fun. Adlan has been making a name for himself as of late, and it would be a great fight for the fans, given that both have knockout power.
