UFC 171 in Dallas was a huge night for the welterweight division with Johny Hendricks emerging as the new champion after outlasting Robbie Lawler in a five-round thriller. It'll be extremely interesting to see which direction the promotion takes in determining the next title challenger especially with Nick Diaz being in the spotlight all weekend. Here are the top-5 fights to consider after UFC 171.

5. Myles Jury vs. Bobby Green/Jim Miller winner

Jury’s star shone bright in his biggest career test as he dominated veteran Diego Sanchez to earn a unanimous- decision victory. At a perfect 14-0, Jury clearly showed he’s ready for big time opportunities in the 155-pound division and the winner of the Green/Miller fight at UFC 172 would be a solid next step.

4. Hector Lombard vs. Dong Hyun Kim

Lombard dominated Jake Shields but did earn some rightful criticism for playing it too safe and settling for a decision win after nearly recording a first-round stoppage. Lombard is 2-0 since making the move down to 170-pounds and a matchup against “Stun Gun” would shape up as an attractive matchup between two very physically imposing fighters with title thoughts on their minds. Kim has registered two-straight highlight-reel knockouts.

3. Robbie Lawler vs. Jake Ellenberger/Tarec Saffiedine winner

Lawler turned in a tremendous effort in losing a very close decision to Johny Hendricks in their title affair and proved he’s more than capable of hanging with elite competition. Ellenberger and Saffiedine are set to battle next month at UFC 172 and the winner would be a solid test for Lawler in his quest to get back to the top and would also make for an entertaining scrap.

2. Tyron Woodley vs. Rory MacDonald

Woodley looked impressive in defeating Carlos Condit but a knee injury to “The Natural Born Killer” produced an unsatisfying finish. “T-Wood” continues to raise his stock in the welterweight landscape and facing MacDonald would be a solid title eliminator. MacDonald is 7-2 in his UFC tenure and is fresh off an impressive victory over Demian Maia at UFC 170.

Hendricks had to dig deep to survive the dangerous Lawler in an action-packed five round war. Diaz may not be deserving based on back-to-back losses to Carlos Condit and Georges St.Pierre but his drawing power simply can’t be denied. Diaz always comes to fight and love it or loathe it, of all the matchups that can be made, a Hendricks vs. Diaz title fight would attract the most interest.
