Chael Sonnen vs. Wanderlei Silva Is Not An Important Fight
I hate to burst everyone’s bubble, but Chael Sonnen vs. Wanderlei Silva is not an important fight. I mean not important in relation to the UFC rankings. Both of these fighters have to understand that this is not necessarily a make-or-break fight for their careers; instead, it is a fun fight between and striker and a wrestler and it will be a great fight for the fans.
With that being said, is this good for the fighters? Well, for these two fighters, it is a good thing.
I will come right out and say it: neither of these fighters will ever get another shot at a championship fight. It is just not happening; they are both a little too old and cannot take the type of punishment in camp that they would need to be prepared. That is alright because both of these fighters are still extremely popular fighters. It seems that both Sonnen and Silva really do not like each other and we all know that drama sells fights.
So what is really at stake in this fight? The winner will be the go-to fighter for fun fights.
Both Silva and Sonnen have fought at different weight classes in the UFC. A win would open the door to a bunch of catch-weight fights and fun matchups for the fans. This is not an impactful fight for the division, but it can be an impactful fight for Silva and Sonnen. Personally, I just want to see these two punch each other.
