''Showtime'' Shawn Porter will make the first defense of his newly won IBF welterweight title against Paulie ''Magic Man'' Malignaggi this Saturday. Porter won the belt from Devon Alexander and now looks to begin his reign by defending against the experienced Malignaggi. Porter is hoping for even bigger fights in the future, but first he will have to deal with Malignaggi, and that is no easy task, before he can look ahead in his career.

Shawn Porter is not particularly renowned as a power puncher, as such, but he will certainly be the bigger puncher when he steps into the ring with Malignaggi. Porter's game plan will be to get in close to Malignaggi and do his damage from the inside, and the extra power Porter could be effective in slowing the older, but quicker, Malignaggi down.

When Porter won his title from Devon Alexander, he did so by making the fight a physical one. It was the type of fight which really wears down the opponent and grinds away at their energy reserves. Porter will be bringing a similar approach against Malignaggi and if he can make it a rough, inside type of a fight, then Porter will not only sap the energy of Malignaggi, but he will also retain his title.

Porter did whatever he could to make his fight against Alexander a dog fight. Anything and everything went and, much like Alexander, Malignaggi will not have the power to keep Porter off of him. Once in that situation, it's going to be a rough night trying to deal with Porter and his aggression up close.

Malignaggi is going to attempt to box on the back foot and box rings around the champion Porter. If he can successfully do that, he'll win, but Porter has already shown he can deal with that kind of style. Alexander is a similar fighter, except younger, and Porter was able to get in close to him and have the fight take place where he wanted it to. Chances are, he'll manage the same against Malignaggi.

Over the years, many fighters have remarked that when they first won a world title they instantly got better. Their confidence was already there, to a point, but it grew and grew from that point on. Porter was a good fighter before, but now he is champion. Expect his confidence and belief to grow further as he evolves with every fight.
