Australian heavyweight Soa Palelei is making a quick turnaround for a UFC clash close to home. “The Hulk” will square off against Jared Rosholt at Fight Night 43 in Auckland, New Zealand. The June 28 matchup features two heavyweights riding Octagon win streaks.
Palelei has found himself in the latest top 15 UFC rankings after his first-round stoppage of Ruan Potts at Fight Night 40 in Cincinnati. He’s 3-0 in his second stint with the promotion, with those other victories coming against Nikita Krylov and Pat Barry.
The 36-year old veteran is on quite a run of success, having won 11 straight fights all by knockout since his last defeat back in 2010 at the hands of Daniel Cormier. Palelei has demonstrated a devastating ground-and-pound game and can inch closer to the organization’s top 10 with another victory. He’s a fighter who doesn’t leave it up to the judges with all 21 of his career victories coming by knockout or submission.
The 27-year old Rosholt has a tremendous wrestling pedigree after a highly successful collegiate career at Oklahoma State. “The Big Show” has earned back-to-back decision victories inside the Octagon against Walt Harris and most recently Daniel Omielanczuk at Fight Night 39 in Abu Dhabi. Rosholt’s wrestling skills will be a formidable test for Palelei. He has a 10-1 career mark and is currently on a six-fight win streak. Rosholt has six finishes to his credit.
This shapes up as an intriguing matchup between two powerful heavyweight competitors looking to make their mark on a division that can use some new blood. Palelei has proven to be a destructive force, but now gets some stiffer competition. Rosholt can make a major statement if he can derail Palelei’s positive momentum.
