Demetrious Johnson Should Fight John Dodson Next

I’ll shoot you guys straight: I don’t like watching Demetrious Johnson fight. His speed is absolutely insane, he has some of the best wrestling in the UFC, and his pace is not human. He is making a case for being top five pound for pound in the world. Something about him just rubs me the wrong way and for that, I don’t like him. Sue me, I guess.

He absolutely dominated his latest challenger Ali Bagautinov at UFC 174. It was a masterful performance, but most people are talking about what is going to happen to Johnson after this fight. He has almost cleared out the Flyweight weight class. Even though Bagautinov was worthy of a title shot, it seemed like he was nowhere near the champion, talent-wise. The most logical choice for Johnson to fight next is John Dodson.

Dodson is coming off a knockout of John Moraga, and an impressive one at that. Although Johnson and Dodson have fought before, with Johnson winning a decision, it was a close fight. Dodson even managed to drop the champion twice. I believe that Dodson was still a little too young in his career to reach his full potential in that title fight, but now it seems that he is getting another chance. If this fight is scheduled, we could be looking at a fight of the year candidate. Dodson is an extremely offensive fighter, and Johnson has started to fight with a sense of urgency. Thanks to their styles of fighting, the potential for fireworks is most definitely there and I hope we get to see it.
