There is always something special about having two fight cards to look forward to. Since Conor McGregor is headlining one of those cards, the rest of the fights have kind of fell to the wayside. Welcome to the favoritism of the UFC, I guess. However, one of the fights that should be getting a big push would be the excellent matchup between Brad Pickett and Ian McCall.
I have always been a Pickett fan. His style of fighting is always exciting and he holds legitimate talent. After he was unable to really crack into the Bantamweight division, he decided to try his luck at Flyweight. It seemed to be a good choice as his Flyweight debut was a unanimous decision win over Neil Seery. He will face a tougher test in McCall.
McCall has been consistently ranked in the top five of the division and has shared the Octagon with Joseph Benavidez and Demetrious Johnson, and some could argue he won the fight against Johnson.
This fight has Fight of the Night written all over it. Both are serious wrestlers and have some good hands. I would give the power nod to Pickett just because he has dropped guys before, which could be the key to him winning this fight.
I’m confident that Pickett could knock out McCall if he is able to land early. McCall will hold the speed advantage in the fight and could use it to pick apart Pickett, but he has never really backed away from a good exchange and that will probably be his downfall in this fight. Pickett is too powerful for McCall and since McCall loves to get into brawls, it will be his downfall.
One thing that people are overlooking is that the Flyweight division is extremely thin when it comes to title contenders. A convincing win over McCall could very well nab Pickett a shot at the champion. That is just one more reason to tune in and watch the fight.
