Seriously, stop the presses, call a lawyer and pray to whomever you call God because this Saturday Robbie Lawler is set to fight Matt Brown. Two of the most violent men to ever enter the Octagon will now proceed to face each other. The potential for Fight of Year is as high as possible for this one, folks. Despite how awesome this fight sounds, I am a little worried for Brown.
Brown has been a force in the Welterweight division for the past two years, bringing unmatched intensity into every fight. He is one of the most aggressive fighters the UFC has ever seen and has the power to knock out anyone in the division. The only problem is we have never seen an opponent fight him. By that, I mean, we have never seen what happens when an opponent goes after Brown, makes him walk backward and puts him on the ground. Lawler will do that.
The other thing that makes me a little worried is Brown seems a little too one-dimensional. He does not have the wrestling game that Lawler has, nor does he have the more versatile striking acumen. Brown loves to use his elbows and head kicks, but they do not come off as smooth and Lawler’s does. Lawler can do just about everything a little better than Brown. Not only that, but Lawler has been around the mixed martial arts game for a long time. He has been in the big fights and has felt the pressure of title fights. Brown has not. Lawler’s experience could really come into play here.
I am so excited for this fight, I can’t even begin to describe it. With those feelings of excitement also comes a bad feeling for Brown. I just don’t see how he is going to pull this one out.
