What can I say about Georges St-Pierre that has not been said before? The man was one of the greatest fighters of all time. His dominance cannot be overstated. In his prime, he could have finished anyone in the division. Towards the end, well, he kind of got beat up a lot more but still won the fights and that is what I want to talk about. If St-Pierre comes back, could he be world champion? In my opinion, there is no way.

If you take a look at how much the Welterweight division has changed since St-Pierre left, it would be hard to say that he would be champion again. First off, everyone in the top-five of that division, minus Carlos Condit, is a wrestler. Not only are they wrestlers, but they are phenomenal wrestlers. They all have better stand up than St-Pierre also, so there is that. But the biggest difference is that the top-five guys in the division are finishers. When they get a guy hurt, they go after them. They like to take chances and are not against getting in a brawl; which is where St-Pierre has faltered in his later years.

St-Pierre did not like getting punched; but honestly, can you blame him? St-Pierre was an intelligent fighter and he knew that the less he got hit, the easier the fight would be. This kind of intelligence though, led to some boring decisions and really hurt his popularity in the later years. What does this have to do with him coming back and winning the championship? There is a certain swagger and confidence that comes with a fighter that can brawl. He knows that he can out-tough the other guy. Everyone in the top-five of the division has that mentality. I don’t think that St-Pierre ever had that mentality in his life. Is that enough to keep him from getting the belt back? Yeah, I think it is.
