There’s been plenty of speculation about who former UFC lightweight champ and former featherweight title challenger Frankie Edgar should face next after his dominant win over B.J. Penn at the TUF 19 Finale. “The Answer” proved he was still a major title threat in the 145-pound division with last month's near-flawless performance. Here are, in my opinion, the top five options for Edgar's next UFC fight.

5. Frankie Edgar vs. Urijah Faber

This one is a longshot as Faber is currently campaigning as a bantamweight, but it would be an attractive option to consider. The former WEC featherweight champion and three-time UFC bantamweight title challenger, is always in pursuit of major fights. Edgar vs. Faber at a catch-weight of 140 pounds would certainly deliver star power. The excellent career pedigrees and styles of the proven UFC veterans would make for a highly entertaining affair.

4. Frankie Edgar vs. Ricardo Lamas

This would involve a potential matchup between two former title challengers. Lamas didn’t have his best performance against Hacran Dias at Fight Night 44, but did emerge with the unanimous decision win. “The Bully” suffered a broken thumb in the early stages of that fight which affected his performance. He’s in the same boat as Edgar in hoping to work his way back into title consideration.

With Edgar enjoying the No. 3 ranking in the division, he won’t be looking too far down the ladder for his next opponent. “The Korean Zombie” has been sidelined since a loss to Aldo at UFC 163, but is targeting a fall return. A matchup of these two former 145-pound title challengers would make for an extremely compelling affair. Both elite competitors are as tough as nails and produce fan-friendly clashes.

2. Frankie Edgar vs. Dennis Bermudez

Bermudez continued his impressive run by submitting Clay Guida at UFC on FOX 12 in San Jose. It was the seventh-consecutive win for “The Menace,” who shot up an impressive five spots to a No. 7 ranking in the division. His strength and wrestling background would be an excellent test for Edgar’s lateral movement and precision striking. Both men have had their share of exciting fights and this potential matchup would undoubtedly add to that list.

1. Frankie Edgar vs. Cub Swanson

There seems to be a lot of momentum for this matchup and for good reason. Swanson, who has won six-straight fights, had been hoping to face the winner of the Jose Aldo-Chad Mendes title rematch. However, that fight has been delayed until UFC 179 in late October after Aldo got hurt. The 145-pound division would be in a great spot if the organization was able to pair off the Aldo-Mendes 2 winner against the winner of Edgar vs. Swanson.
