However, most athletes want to be called the greatest of all time when they finally decide to call it a career. Mayweather has had an impressive career and when you analyze the data, he's probably the best boxer ever. Follow along as I explain.

In all 46 of his professional fights, Floyd Mayweather Jr. has never been knocked down. This is unbelievable considering the fact that most of his opponents outscore him in punches thrown by a long shot. Evidently, it's a lot harder than it looks to knock down boxing's greatest artful dodger. With 351 career rounds under his belt, I think it's safe to say that it's impossible to knock Mayweather out, if he can't even be knocked down.

Muhammad Ali made his opponents look silly because he always happened to get out of their reach in the nick of time, almost as if he was toying with them. Mayweather doesn't waste his energy trying to be a a showman in the ring, but it almost appears as if he's making a mockery of his opponents with his impenetrable defense. After 19 years of fighting, he may not be an eloquent speaker, but don't blame that on boxing. Nobody has hurt him yet.

In most sports, +/- ratio means a lot, so why would it be any different in boxing? In 2012, a study was done to see what Mayweather's +/- ratio was in regards to punches that he's landed on his opponents vs. punches that his opponents have landed on him. The results were astounding! HBO's CompuBox 4,000-fight database showed that Mayweather is the most efficient boxer ever with a plus-30 percent AVG, with Joe Louis behind him at plus-26 percent.

Rocky Marciano is considered as the greatest boxer of all time by some because he went 49-0 in his career — undefeated. At 46-0, Floyd Mayweather has three fights left on his Showtime contract, so you do the math. For nearly two decades, Mayweather has been at the top of his game in one of the most dangerous sports in the world. At the age of 37, he's still making younger, stronger opponents look like amateurs. Can anybody defeat this guy?

While he isn't known to be a wordsmith, Floyd Mayweather is a genius at his craft. He is one of the most disciplined athletes in the world in terms of his stringent fitness regimen that always keeps him sharp, and he can counter any attack like a fencing pro. Mayweather outsmarts his opponents in every fight, and Victor Ortiz found this out the hard way when he dropped his hands and got dropped. Speed and power are temporary, but wit is eternal.
