Diego Sanchez vs. Joe Lauzon Could Be Fight of the Year

Joe Lauzon

Kyle Terada-USA TODAY Sports

I always kind of enjoy the fact that when a fighter grows old, they are just put in entertaining match-ups, for the sake of both themselves and the crowd. Take a look at a recently announced fight, Diego Sanchez is now set to mix it up against Joe Lauzon. Not to knock on these fighters, but neither of them are going to fight for the title in their UFC careers. I know that sounds mean, but it is true.

Both of those guys are the definition of warriors, though. They each have excellent finishing ratios and both of them love a battle. I mean, they actually love to go out there and be put in a grueling fight, a fight where heart and determination are determining factors in who will win.

The way I see it, this fight could either go a full three rounds, ending with both guys completely busted up and losing half of their body weight in blood. Or, there will be an extremely quick finish. Maybe a knockout by Sanchez, or a submission by Lauzon. Either way, I expect to be fully entertained. That is the only way that this will play out.

Both fighters are still big draws because they are entertaining and give their all during a fight, even though neither of them is good enough to be taking on a top-five guy. Will this shake up the rankings at all? I don’t see it. However, this match-up does have the potential to be the fight of the year, so if I were you, I would pay close attention to it.
