Al Iaquinta Makes Bold Statement With Victory In Sydney
Al Iaquinta was underdog heading into his co-main event bout with Ross Pearson at UFC Fight Night 55, but he proved many wrong and made a bold statement, finishing Pearson off in a round two TKO victory. He now deserves a spot in the UFC’s top 15 lightweights, as well as the opportunity to fight bigger named opponents.
Fighting out of the Serra-Longo fight team, which is also home to UFC middleweight champion Chris Weidman, Iaquinta is in the right environment and has the right people around him in order to make a successful title run. It may be too early to talk about championships, but with the backing of a prestigious fight team and the quick progression of his mixed martial arts ability, Iaquinta is going places.

He now has back-to-back TKO victories in the UFC and is deserved of a top-15 spot and the chance to a more challenging opponent. There are a number of intriguing matchups which could be made, including the winner of Edson Barboza and Bobby Green, as well as Michael Johnson and Jim Miller.
The UFC’s lightweight division has some space for some new exciting talent, and Iaquinta fits this description nicely. With a number of potential bigger fights available, Iaquinta could be on a sudden move up the division and towards the champion. With a strong fight team and an expanding knowledge and ability in the sport of MMA, Al Iaquinta could reshuffle and stir up the lightweight division.
