Former lightweight champion Frankie Edgar continued his quest to land another title shot by besting Cub Swanson in the main event of Fight Night 57. The dominant nature of the win has Edgar believing he deserves a rematch against long-time 145-pound titlist Jose Aldo. The main card also featured impressive victories by Edson Barboza, Oleksiy Oliynyk and Joseph Benavidez. Here are the top five fights to make in the wake of UFC FN 57.

Benavidez turned in a strong effort against a game Dustin Ortiz to earn a unanimous decision win. He’s clearly the best fighter in the flyweight division outside of current champ Demetrious Johnson, but the problem is that he’s already lost twice to “Mighty Mouse.” The no. 15-ranked Reis took to Twitter to express his desire to face “Joe B” next, and Benavidez seemed on board with the idea. Reis recently beat Scott Jorgensen at UFC 179.

4. Oleksiy Oliynyk vs. Ben Rothwell

The 37-year-old Oliynyk may be noted for his submission skills, but he let his fists do the talking in producing an explosive first-round knockout win over Jared Rosholt. Rosholt came out blazing and had Oliynyk in trouble before he was felled by a massive left hook and left prone on the canvas by a subsequent hammer fist. Rothwell is fresh off a huge KO victory of his own over Alistair Overeem at Fight Night 50.

3. Cub Swanson vs. Dennis Bermudez

Swanson saw his title hopes dashed in lopsided fashion against Edgar as he was pummelled into a bloody mess and finished with just four seconds left in the fight. The defeat ended a six-fight win streak and puts him back into the pack with other dangerous 145-pound title hopefuls. A matchup against Bermudez makes sense after “The Menace” recently had his impressive win streak halted by Ricardo Lamas at UFC 180.

2. Edson Barboza vs. Benson Henderson/Eddie Alvarez winner

Barboza finally proved he could get the job done against an elite opponent by getting past the tough Bobby Green via unanimous decision. The talented striker should vault into a top-10 ranking, and a clash against the winner of the January battle between Henderson and Alvarez would represent an excellent next step. Barboza’s flashy style against the former champion Henderson or the always aggressive Alvarez would produce an entertaining affair.

Edgar delivered a one-sided drubbing to Swanson and made an emphatic statement that he’s ready for Aldo next. It’s up to the UFC to now weigh whether he deserves that second chance, or whether they want to capitalize on the star power of Conor McGregor. It seems like the Irish sensation will get the next shot at Aldo if he beats Dennis Siver. Having said that, an Edgar-Aldo rematch wouldn’t disappoint. They produced a FOTN at UFC 156.
