Tony Ferguson Deserves Spot In Top 15 With A Win At UFC 181
Tony Ferguson is a very talented lightweight who is currently going unnoticed in the UFC. He was an elite-level college wrestler who has a purple belt in Brazilian jiu-jitsu, as well as high-level boxing to make him a well-rounded mixed martial artist. He has the ability to comfortably keep the fight standing and knock opponents out, but he’s also confident fighting on the ground and submitting opponents.
Ferguson held an MMA record of 10 wins and two losses before winning the Ultimate Fighter Season 13, and he now holds a UFC record of six wins and only one loss, including three via knockout and one Submission of the Night finish. He is currently riding a three-fight win streak and holds notable victories over Aaron Riley, Yves Edwards, Mike Rio and Danny Castillo. He can unquestionably mix it with the best, and with a win over Abel Trujillo, he’ll prove his worth even further.
Of his overall 16 career wins, he has nine knockouts and four submission with only three going to a decision. His record complements his fighting style to always push forward in an attempt to finish a fight early. With a convincing win over Trujillo on the main card of UFC 181, Ferguson should enter the top 15 and thoroughly deserves the opportunity to fight an even bigger named opponent.
Within the next year, Ferguson can potentially elevate himself among the top 10 in a stacked lightweight division, and may even earn the chance to fight the UFC champion.
