After tasting defeat inside the Octagon for the first time in his last appearance, Zach Makovsky will be looking to get his career back on track this weekend at UFC Fight Night 60. “Fun Size” draws a tough assignment in Broomfield, Colorado against the ultra-aggressive Tim Elliott. It’s a pivotal matchup of two 125-pound contenders looking to stay relevant.

Makovsky had his personal four-fight win streak come to an end at Fight Night 47 when he was out grappled by Brazilian submission specialist Jussier Formiga. The former Bellator bantamweight champion simply couldn’t get untracked offensively in that contest, and ended up on the wrong end of a unanimous decision verdict. He still occupies a No. 10 ranking, and can work his way back up the ladder if he is able to get back into the win column against the rugged Elliott. Makovsky has recorded UFC wins over Scott Jorgensen and Josh Sampo, and has displayed a diversified stand-up game and strong wrestling skills.

Elliott has faced the best that the division has to offer but has fallen short against the likes of former title challengers Joseph Benavidez, Ali Bagautinov and John Dodson. He’s currently on a two-fight losing skid. The 28-year-old Elliott will be looking to work his way back into top-10 territory and even up his UFC ledger at 3-3 by knocking off Makovsky. The No. 11-ranked contender is noted for his granite chin and pressure style. His Octagon triumphs have come against Louis Gaudinot and Jared Papazian.

The flyweight division doesn’t boast the longest of lists when it comes to fresh challengers for long-reigning champion Demetrious Johnson, so Makovsky and Elliott will be looking to put on solid performances this weekend to add their names to the mix. While neither man is much of a finisher, this matchup should produce a fan-friendly war of attrition.
