The lightweight championship fight at UFC 196 was called off early on Tuesday due to Rafael dos Anjos suffering a broken foot during training, and UFC president Dana White is reportedly searching for a replacement for dos Anjos.

While it’s a shame that Conor McGregor‘s attempt to become the first UFC fighter to hold multiple titles at the same time be put on hold, the promotion isn’t without options for an exciting matchup. Here are the five most likely replacements to fight McGregor at UFC 196.

5. Urijah Faber

Faber may be a longshot, but the veteran expressed his interest in taking the fight. It would certainly be two of the biggest names in the sport squaring off in Las Vegas, which could entice White.

4. Anthony Pettis

Pettis is the No. 3 lightweight contender in the UFC and although he could certainly give McGregor a good scrap, it would be tough to convince people that he deserves it after losing to Eddie Alvarez. Alvarez would have to pass on the fight first.

3. Eddie Alvarez

Alvarez is the No. 1 ranked lightweight contender behind champion Rafael dos Anjos. He hasn't come out and said he'd take the fight, but he did make comments a few days ago stating that McGregor would be an "easy" fight.

2. Nate Diaz

Diaz has reportedly been offered the fight, though rumors are the Stockton fighter isn't satisfied with the money. There is also some concern that Diaz wouldn't be able to pass a drug test as he's known for using marijuana outside of camp.

1. Donald Cerrone

Cerrone fought on February 21, but he's being considered the favorite to land the fight due to his willingness to take fights on short notice. Some believe McGregor would have to come up to 170, but Cerrone's camp believes it can happen at 155.

Conor McGregor Opens Up About Nate Diaz Upset

Prior to Saturday’s UFC 196 main event Conor McGregor predicted that he would defeat his opponent Nate Diaz via knockout before the end of Round 1. That prediction did not come to fruition but it wasn’t due to lack of trying. McGregor in defeat was humble though. “It’s a bitter pill to swallow" McGregor said in the post-fight press conference. "I took a shot. I went at it. I feel that I was simply inefficient with my energy. Usually I fight a man in the division I am champion in and they crumble under those shots but Nate took them very well. “This is the game” McGregor continued. “We win some; we lose some. I will never shy away from a challenge. I will never shy away from defeat. This is part of the game.”
