5 Reasons Why Anderson Silva Should Retire After UFC Fight Night Loss To Michael Bisping

Despite showing flashes of brilliance and coming close to scoring a finish in multiple instances, Anderson Silva dropped a unanimous decision to Michael Bisping in London, England, making the Count only the second UFC fighter to ever best the Spider inside the Octagon.

While the two vets put on a fun Fight of the Night performance that will be fondly remembered, it’s now clearer than ever that the time has come for Silva to finally walk away from the game. Here are just a few reasons why.

5. Nothing Left To Prove

Bisping said it better, but here it goes: Silva is still arguably the GOAT, even with the positive PED test and late-career losses. He's come back at age-40 from shattering his leg to compete at the highest level. There's nothing left to accomplish.

4. No Viable Opponent

At this point, who's left for Silva? He's not a contender, and the only possible fights left for him are nostalgia matches -- think Vitor Belfort at UFC 200. Even a potential fight with GSP isn't all that interesting at this point.

3. Diminished Skills

The Spider still has his tricks, but what the flying knee and front kick hide is that he took the first two rounds (and 4:58 of the third) off. He looked slow, and his counter-striking style is no longer as flashy or effective as a result.

2. Less Drawing Power

The Fight Pass numbers for Bisping-Silva were "historic," but it being on the streaming service is significant. Silva could still headline a FN card in Brazil, but nobody will mistake him for a PPV headliner. The money fight may not be there.

1. The Chin

Bisping isn't exactly known for power, and he hurt Silva badly on a couple of occasions. All fighters go through it, and it's clear that Silva can't take the shots he used to. The guy is 40, he's getting hit more, and his chin isn't there. It's time.

Conor McGregor Opens Up About Nate Diaz Upset

Prior to Saturday’s UFC 196 main event Conor McGregor predicted that he would defeat his opponent Nate Diaz via knockout before the end of Round 1. That prediction did not come to fruition but it wasn’t due to lack of trying. McGregor in defeat was humble though. “It’s a bitter pill to swallow" McGregor said in the post-fight press conference. "I took a shot. I went at it. I feel that I was simply inefficient with my energy. Usually I fight a man in the division I am champion in and they crumble under those shots but Nate took them very well. “This is the game” McGregor continued. “We win some; we lose some. I will never shy away from a challenge. I will never shy away from defeat. This is part of the game.”
