Paige VanZant Finally Spoke About Incident Where Ronda Rousey Cussed Her Out

By Jason Fletcher

A couple weeks ago, UFC women’s bantamweight champion Miesha Tate appeared on the ‘Joe Rogan Experience’ and brought up a story involving former champion Ronda Rousey seeking out strawweight fighter Paige VanZant and cussing her out for congratulating Holly Holm on beating Rousey at UFC 193.

“Ronda came up [to Paige] and was like, ‘F*ck you, you fair weather b*tch, how dare you cross me.’” Tate said. “She’s like, ‘Cross you, what are you talking about?’ And [Ronda] was like, ‘You congratulated Holly Holm for beating me, so f*ck you.’ … And Paige came and told me, and I was like, ‘Honey, welcome to my world.’”

VanZant has since confirmed that the story is true, but she really hadn’t spoken about the incident publicly until now. In an interview with Hollywood Today, VanZant was asked about Rousey confronting her, but she largely chose to take the high road.

“There was a little aggression, I won’t go into details,” Paige said. “I feel like I was very hurt at first. Very hurt and frustrated about the whole situation. But afterwards I really had to take a step back, and as fighters we are very emotional, we wear our emotions on our sleeves.”

“Ronda being the champ for so long and then having as significant of a loss as she had, she has to be very emotional about it. And I really feel for her and I have nothing but love for her and hopefully I can make it right with her.”

It’ll be interesting to see what happens with VanZant’s fighting career after she lost her last bout to Rose Namajunas. She’s spent the last few months making it to Tuesday night’s ‘Dancing With The Stars’ finale and just recently signed a movie deal to appear in ‘Kickboxer: Retaliation’. It seems as if VanZant might have a bigger career in Hollywood than in the UFC, but we shall see.
