2012 NFL Mock Draft 7 Rounds 3.0
Jerome Miron-US PRESSWIRE

Baylor quarterback Robert Griffin III won the 2011 Heisman Trophy for the nations best quarterback.  Robert Griffin III threw 37 touchdowns and 6 interceptions.

Robert Griffin III will likely go to the Washington Redskins.  The Redskins seem like they are willing to deal more than anyone for RGIII if they cannot sign Peyton Manning.

Back in June of 2011, I had Griffin going 8th to the Raiders.  Griffin has even exceeded my expectations.  Robert Griffin III became the first Baylor quarterback to win the Heisman and RGIII led Baylor to a 67-56 win over Washington in the Alamo Bowl.

Robert Griffin III did not throw at the 2012 NFL Combine.  Robert Griffin III’s pro day is on March 21st.  RGIII will throw at his pro day one day before Stanford quarterback  Andrew Luck.  Luck appears all but a lock to go #1 overall.  Who will win the right to draft RGIII?

This 7 round mock draft will feature offseason outlook links for the top 10 teams picking in the 2012 NFL Draft.  The 2012 NFL Combine has ended and some players are really starting to separate themselves from the pack.

Feel free to interact with me on the picks.  All I request as usual is that you put good reasoning behind whether you like or dislike the picks rather than loving or hating one pick completely with short words like nice pick/horrible picks.

This is the 3rd 7 round mock if you exclude the pre combine mock draft.  Feel free to email me at [email protected] if you believe I missed anyone significant in this 2012 NFL Mock Draft.

Round 1

1. Indianapolis Colts 2-14 Andrew Luck Quarterback Stanford Junior Redshirt Back in 2008, many considered Ohio State commitment Terrell Pryor to be the #1 quarterback recruit coming out of high school who may be the #1 overall pick in the NFL Draft 4 years after College.

As Lee Corso would say, “Not so fast my friends.”  Pryor had a great supporting cast at Ohio State.  Pryor lost a Fiesta Bowl to Colt McCoy as a freshman, won a Rose Bowl against Oregon as a sophomore, and helped the Buckeyes defeat Arkansas in the Sugar Bowl before getting kicked off the team with the whole OSU scandal with improper benefits.

Andrew Luck was also a 5 star recruit.  Luck got Stanford to the Orange Bowl with only 1 regular season loss to Oregon who played Auburn for the National Title as a sophomore redshirt.  Luck dominated the Orange Bowl before spurning the chance to go pro and be the #1 overall pick in the 2011 NFL Draft.

Other 5 star recruits from 2008 included Florida State commitment EJ Manuel, Dayne Crist who committed to Notre Dame before transferring to Kansas, and eventual Stanford commitment Andrew Luck.  Some even had Missouri commitment Blaine Gabbert as a 5 star recruit while other recruiting services had him as low as 2 stars coming out of high school.

Besides Luck, none of the 5 star quarterback recruits have lived up to the hype of being a future first round pick at the collegiate level.  Luck had to watch Stanford go 5-7 when he was redshirted before becoming Stanford’s full time starter in 2009.

Luck went threw for 2,575 passing yards, 13 touchdowns, 4 interceptions, while completing 56.3 percent of his passes as a freshman redshirt in a run first offense where Luck would hand the ball off to Toby Gerhart.

Luck really showed signs of major improvement in 2010 going from completing 56.3 percent of his passes to completing 70.7 percent of his passes while transitioning from a run first balanced offense to a pass first west coast offense as a sophomore redshirt.

Andrew Luck is the top prospect in the 2012 NFL Draft.  Luck is considered the clear cut prospect with a commanding lead on NFL draft boards.  He’s practically sold the Indianapolis Colts as the top prospect at this point.

Draftniks have been saying that Luck would eventually go #1 overall since October of 2010 when he leapfrogged Jake Locker on 2011 NFL Draft boards to become the top prospect, before shocking the nation by returning to Stanford.  Luck ranked 2nd behind Locker heading into the preseason, but some were unsure about how big Andrew Luck would become prior to the 2010 season when Luck was a sophomore redshirt.

Luck has maintained his momentum in a pro style offense even with the departure of Jim Harbaugh.  For the casual NFL fan who refuses to watch college football its getting simply ridiculous hearing Andrew Luck 24/7 on major media outlets.

The Colts need to take Luck.  Luck is arguably the best quarterback prospect over the past 15 years to come out of college.  The Colts released Manning.  Manning will not be forgotten.  This is now Luck’s team to live up to the hype.

There was some speculation heating up that the Colts will indeed release Manning prior to the NFL Combine which is 2-3 weeks before the March deadline to resign him.   This plan has been in place for weeks according to candidates who were interviewing for the Colts GM job.

Our Colts blogger Chris Batchelder posted a piece about how the Colts have already planned to release Peyton Manning.  He got the bit from a source at the NFL Combine.  Click the link to check it out.  This piece was published one week before ESPN’s report confirmed everything.

http://www.rantsports.com/indianapolis-colts/2012/02/29/unbelievable-peyton-manning-era-is-officially-over-as-a-indianapolis-colts/

I never doubted the report  because the Colts usually telegraph their draft picks.  Polian wanted a left tackle in 2011 after passing on Rodger Saffold for Jerry Hughes in 2010.

Isray was telegraphing the picks by tweeting that he loved Luck and Barkley in December before Barkley returned and Polian got fired.  That should have indicated everything we already knew at the time.

That Colts tradition for telegraphing picks has not changed even with Polian’s departure from Indianapolis.  Jim Irsay seems like the type of owner who wants his GM to send smokescreens to other NFL teams.

That, Polian’s draft picks and recent years, and Polian wanting to keep Manning probably all led to the departure of Bill Polian.  Polian was a great GM for many years, but the combination of those 3 things forced Irsay to find a new General Manager.

The Colts are taking Andrew Luck.  Case Closed.  Luck will be a Colt.  Will Andrew Luck wear #12 in Indianapolis?

Luck returned to school spurning the chance to go #1 overall to the Carolina Panthers and has maintained his consistency in 2011.  Back to back seasons with a 70 percent completion rate despite a coaching change at head coach.  Jim Harbaugh left Stanford as Stanford’s Head Coach before becoming the San Francisco 49ers head coach taking the 49ers to the NFC Title game in his first year.

Luck plays  in a pro style offense at Stanford and he calls his own plays in 2010 and 2011.  Luck is willing to operate a complex west coast offense like he did in 2010 or a balanced run first offense to set up the passing game like he had in 2011 at Stanford.

I’ve done 4 different scouting reports on Luck and media outlets will build so much more hype around Luck leading up to April’s NFL Draft to the point where you will believe that Luck may bust if you have never seen him play.

Luck threw 37 touchdowns and 10 interceptions in 2011 after throwing 32 touchdowns and 8 interceptions in 2010.  Luck also threw for 3,517 passing yards in 2011 after throwing for 3,338 passing yards in 2010.  Luck improved his completion percentage from 70.7 to 71.3 percent.  Luck did all this after losing 3 of his five starters on the offensive line at right tackle, left guard, and center.  The other 2 starters on Stanford’s offensive line are expected to be 2012 first round picks.

The Andrew Luck hype may be on a Tim Tebow level.  The hype about Luck is real though, Andrew Luck is a can’t miss quarterback prospect.  I like Tebow, but the hype Tebow gets sometimes is beyond excessive.  Andrew Luck is money with his short and medium passes like Tom Brady.  He can also scramble like John Elway.  Luck is your ideal West Coast Quarterback with Elway’s scrambling and Peyton Manning’s awareness to call his own plays by using audibles while being money with short and medium passes like Tom Brady.

Luck is money with short and medium passes.  Luck has the mechanics, footwork, and accuracy to execute any short or medium throw.  Luck can also move outside the pocket which makes him like Tom Brady with Elway’s scrambling ability.  Luck can make the deep throws.  Sometimes Luck does not have the best throwing mechanics on deep throws with throwing motion.  Luck has the accuracy to make those deep throws to move the chains.  Luck usually goes to his tight ends on deep throws.

It will be interesting to see how Bruce Arians the former Steelers offensive coordinator develops Andrew Luck.  Arians was the wide receivers coach for Pittsburgh during Ben’s rookie year.

Arians played a huge role with maturing Roethlisberger as the Steelers offensive coordinator after Ken Whisenhunt went to Arizona.  Luck threw to his tight ends a lot in college.  Arians puts an emphasis on the vertical passing game with his wide receivers so having Luck mix and match his passing game with tight ends plus the vertical passing game with his wide receivers makes Andrew Luck even more dangerous in the NFL.

Andrew Luck wanted to throw at the 2012 NFL Combine.  The Colts told him not to throw at the 2012 NFL Combine so Luck will not throw the football until Stanford’s pro day on March 22nd.

The Colts will be taking Luck #1 overall.  Can they sign him to his rookie deal before draft day?  The Lions were able to sign Stafford the night before the 2009 NFL Draft.  If Luck is the sure fire #1 pick, then the next step should be for the Colts to sign Luck.

Luck is the best quarterback prospect in the last 15 years.  You could say Luck is a once and a generation quarterback.  The first once in a generation quarterback came out of Stanford in 1983 in the year of the quarterback before Peyton Manning went #1 overall in 1998.  The next quarterback from Stanford goes pro 30 years after Elway.

Below is a list of the last 15 quarterbacks that did not throw at the NFL Scouting Combine dating back to 1998.  There were originally 11 quarterbacks on this list, but 4 more were added after 4 quarterbacks blew a chance to throw at the 2012 NFL Scouting Combine.

Ryan Leaf Quarterback Washington State 1998 NFL Draft Bust

Tim Couch Quarterback Kentucky 1999 NFL Draft Bust

David Carr Quarterback Fresno State 2002 NFL Draft Bust

Joey Harrington Quarterback Oregon 2002 NFL Draft Bust

Matt Leinart Quarterback USC 2006 NFL Draft Bust

Matt Ryan Quarterback Boston College 2008 NFL Draft 0-3 in NFL Playoff career

Sam Bradford Quarterback Oklahoma 2010 NFL Draft #1 overall pick in 2010

Tim Tebow Quarterback Florida 2010 NFL Draft Only quarterback on this list to win a playoff game so far.

Jimmy Clausen Quarterback Notre Dame 2010 NFL Draft Future Bust

Colt McCoy Quarterback Texas 2010 NFL Draft Future Backup

Blaine Gabbert Quarterback Missouri 2011 NFL Draft Future Bust

Andrew Luck Quarterback Stanford 2012 NFL Draft Clear Cut #1 pick

Robert Griffin III Quarterback Baylor 2012 NFL Draft Clear Cut #2 pick

Ryan Tannehill Quarterback Texas A&M 2012 NFL Draft 1st Round Prospect

Brock Osweiler Quarterback Arizona State 2012 NFL Draft 2nd Round Prospect

Its too early to say what happens with the 2012 NFL quarterbacks.  The only quarterback among the 11 who did not throw at the Combine dating back to 1998 with a playoff win is Tim Tebow.

Even some detractors think Tebow’s job could be in jeopardy if a rookie quarterback breaks out in training camp with Tebow struggling in the preseason.  The fact that Tebow was the only one of these 11 quarterbacks from 1998 to 2011 to not throw at the Combine and win a playoff game should allow him to start heading into week 1 of the regular season.

I will post offseason outlooks for all 32 NFL teams on this site.  This is our piece about the Indianapolis Colts Offseason.

TRADE ALERT The Washington Redskins deal their 2012 1st round pick 6th overall pick, their 2012 2nd round pick 37th overall pick, 2013 3rd round pick 70th overall, and a 2013 first round pick for the 2nd overall pick.

Why it makes sense for the Washington Redskins? The Washington Redskins desperately need to elect a new signal caller in the 2012 NFL Draft.  Ironically enough, its election season with the election in 2012.  Washington is wiling to pony up their day 1 and day 2 draft picks along with a 2013 first rounder to move up for Baylor quarterback Robert Griffin III.  Baylor’s star quarterback got the honor of meeting the current President and was humble at the meeting.

Why it makes sense for the St. Louis Rams? The St. Louis Rams have 14 different draft needs and only 6 picks if they refuse to make a trade.  St. Louis can address some of those needs by moving down for additional picks.  There are two top 5 talents who can help a quarterback with USC left tackle Matt Kalil and Oklahoma State wide receiver Justin Blackmon.  A top 10 talent like Alabama running back Trent Richardson could help out as well.

The Redskins are ponying up all 3 of their top 70 draft picks plus a 2013 first rounder.  The Rams have to take this deal if the Browns do not give up 3 first round picks.

2. Washington Redskins from St. Louis Rams Robert Griffin III Quarterback Baylor Junior Redshirt San Francisco 49ers head coach Jim Harbaugh also recruited Baylor quarterback Robert Griffin III out of high school to Stanford.  Robert Griffin III knew before hand that either he or Luck would transfer to another school down the road if he committed to Stanford.

RGIII made an smart unselfish decision by letting Luck commit to Stanford and exploring other options.  Most high school recruits probably would not have made the same decision that RGIII made in the heat of the moment.  Griffin’s decision making speaks volumes about his maturity.

RGIII originally made a commitment to the Houston Cougars before Art Briles left Houston to go coach at Baylor.  RGIII then withdrew his commitment to Houston to play for Briles at Baylor.

Robert Griffin III would operate a shotgun spread offense after being named the starter as a true freshman for the Baylor Bears.  Robert Griffin III completed 160 out of 267 passes as a true freshman.  Robert Griffin III would go on to complete 59.9 percent of his passes as a true freshman in 2008.  Griffin would throw 15 touchdowns and 3 interceptions as a true freshman.

Robert Griffin III got injured as a true sophomore and was redshirted.  During spring drills RGII started to master the basics of calling plays in a pro style offense.  RGIII mixed up spread plays and pro style plays in 2010 as a sophomore redshirt.  RGIII had over 3,500 passing yards completing 67 percent of his passes in 2010.

Robert Griffin III operated pro style plays as a junior redshirt at Baylor in 2011.  Robert Griffin III averaged 10.68 yards per passing attempt completing 72.4 percent of his passes.  Robert Griffin III threw 37 touchdowns and 6 picks in 2011 compared to Luck’s 37 touchdowns and 10 picks.

Robert Griffin III took more 20 sacks or more in each full season he played if you exclude 2009 when he got redshirted.  Luck took 6 sacks during his first two seasons at Stanford before taking 11 sacks in 2011 after losing 3 of his 5 starters on Stanford’s offensive line.  The other 2 starters Jonathan Martin a left tackle, and David DeCastro a top ten talent at guard are 2012 first round picks.  Luck took 23 career sacks at Stanford while Robert Griffin III took 79 sacks during his career at Baylor.

Luck’s redshirt freshman year he completed 56.3 percent of his passes throwing 13 touchdowns and 4 picks in 2009.  RGIII completed 59.9 percent of his passes throwing 15 touchdowns and 3 interceptions as a true freshman in 2008.  Robert Griffin posted better numbers than Luck in 2011 and had better numbers as a true freshman than Luck did as a freshman redshirt when comparing RGIII’s 2008 campaign to Luck’s 2009 campaign.

Robert Griffin III won the Heisman for the Nations best player in college football.  RGIII is showing scouts that he believes he has the confidence to be better than Andrew Luck.  You have to applaud RGIII for that even if Luck going #1 overall appears like a forgone formality at this point.  Luck was runner up to RGIII in the Heisman voting after being runner up to Cam Newton last season.

Previous Heisman winning quarterbacks include Cam Newton, Sam Bradford, and Tim Tebow.  Heisman winners have flopped in the past.  That trend may be starting to change with the success of recent Heisman winners.

Washington’s offensive line from 2011 would return.  Trent Williams and Jamaal Brown can be an effective bookend tandem if Brown stays healthy.  Maurice Hurt only gave up 3 sacks in 8 starts at left guard in the second half of the season.  Hurt was a 7th round pick out of Florida in the 2011 NFL Draft.  Hurt was 6 foot 5 305 pounds as guard who

Hurt played left guard on the Gators interior offensive line when they won the 2009 National Championship with Maurkice Pouncey, Mike Pouncey, and right tackle Marcus Gilbert protecting Tim Tebow’s blindside.  Tebow throws with his left hand so technically Gilbert was his blindside as Florida’s right tackle.  Gilbert moved to left tackle after Tebow graduated from Florida.

Center Will Montgomery got resigned to a 4 year deal.  Right guard Chris Chester was one of two Redskins along with Montgomery to play all 16 games.

Baylor won 67 to 56 in their Alamo Bowl win over the Washington Huskies.  Griffin III has Michael Vick’s scrambling out of the pocket and Drew Brees pinpoint accuracy.  Matt Barkley’s decision to return to USC for his senior season also propelled Robert Griffin III up draft boards.

Some even believe Griffin could be better than Andrew Luck.  Robert Griffin has accomplished so much in Baylor with his 2011 campaign that you might argue there is a Peyton Manning/Ryan Leaf debate with Luck and Griffin with each quarterback going 1 and 2 overall.  Neither 2012 quarterback prospect should bust like Ryan Leaf did.  This hypothesis of Luck and RGIII will happen if a team moves up for Robert Griffin III.  You never know what could happen though.

Luck has potential to get into Canton and Griffin has potential to be a pro bowl signal caller for years to come.  Robert Griffin III could win 1 Super Bowl with the right supporting cast on offense.  RGIII will appear in a Super Bowl at the very least.  Luck should win multiple championships in his career.  That’s the difference between Luck and RGIII.  I would take Luck or Griffin over anyone in the class of 2011 at quarterback.

Washington will need to get RGIII an offensive tackle and a #1 flanker receiver.  The Redskins will have to wait until 2014 to get RGIII an offensive tackle or a primary wide receiver target if they trade an array of picks to move up for Robert Griffin III.

3. Minnesota Vikings Matt Kalil Left Tackle USC Junior Redshirt Matt Kalil is the little brother of Carolina Panthers center Ryan Kalil.  Matt Kalil can play left tackle, right tackle, left guard, center, or right guard on the offensive line.

Kalil looks like a natural blue chip plug in player at left tackle.  USC allowed fewer sacks than any team on the offensive line in 2011.

USC quarterback Barkley threw a career 39 touchdowns and 7 interceptions as a junior taking only 8 sacks.  This was an FBS best for the USC Trojans offensive line.  Kalil was an elite blindside protector that did not allow a single sack in 2011 on the Trojans offensive line.  Kalil could have returned to school like Barkley.  Kalil denied a report about him returning to school and opted to go pro instead while Barkley returned to school.

Kalil weighed 6 foot 6 295 heading into the season after weighing 6 foot 6 282 pounds heading into high school.  There were questions about how he would need time to improve his run blocking.  Kalil realizes this and those questions may be put to rest.

Kalil entered the NFL Combine weighing in at 6 foot 7 306 pounds.  Kalil did 30 reps on the bench press at the Combine.  Kalil was only one of two offensive lineman besides Oklahoma left tackle Donald Stephenson to run an official 40 time in under 5 seconds.

Christian Ponder needs a blue chip left tackle to protect his blindside.  Matt Kalil makes too much sense here with the 3rd pick.  Kalil could protect Ponder’s blindside and learn the Vikings run blocking scheme to pave the running lane for Adrian Peterson.

Adding Kalil does not just give the Vikings a blue chip left tackle.  It stabilizes the rest of Minnesota’s offensive line as well.  Vikings left tackle Charlie Johnson moves from left tackle to right tackle.  Right tackle Phil Loadholt moves inside to right guard and could move to left guard if Steve Hutchinson retires.  John Sullivan starts at center.  2011 draft picks DeMarcus Love and Brandon Fusco provide depth on the offensive line.

With Matt Kalil at left tackle, Percy Harvin as the flanker receiver, and Kyle Rudolph as the primary tight end, Ponder has all the tools to succeed in Minnesota in 2012 if Adrian Peterson is ready for the start of the 2012 season.

The Vikings can finish ahead of Detroit and contend as a wild card if they draft Matt Kalil 3rd overall.  The Vikings have a potential franchise quarterback in Ponder who threw 13 touchdowns and 13 picks as a rookie, Jared Allen who led the NFL in sacks, Adrian Peterson, and a top notch run defense that can help the front 7.  The Vikings also have a supporting cast at wide receiver and tight end with Percy Harvin and Kyle Rudolph.

Green Bay released Chad Clifton at left tackle so I would not rule out the odds of Minnesota taking the NFC North by storm winning the division if they get Kalil.  That seems unlikely right now though with Aaron Rodgers coming off such a monster season.  Green Bay also has Marshall Newhouse, Bryan Bulaga, and Derrick Sherrod at offensive tackle for Green Bay.  The Packers will enter the year as the overwhelming favorite to win the NFC North.  Anything could happen in the division if the Vikings get Matt Kalil.

4. Cleveland Browns Justin Blackmon Wide Receiver Oklahoma State Junior Redshirt Andrew Luck, Matt Kalil, Robert Griffin III, Morris Claiborne, and Justin Blackmon are top 5 talents.  The one player among these 5 with the highest chance of busting is Blackmon.  I see pro bowl ability with Luck, Kalil, RGIII, and Claiborne.  With Justin Blackmon, I see a #2 receiver getting the unwarranted hype of a #1 receiver target.

Justin Blackmon reminds me so much of a receiver the Browns took 3rd overall in 2005 out of Michigan.  Below is a list of the FBS pass defenses that Justin Blackmon encountered.  There are 120 different FBS teams.

Justin Blackmon 2011-2012 Season VS The 120 ranked FBS Pass Defenses

Louisiana Lafayette 92nd ranked pass defense 8 receptions 144 receiving yards

Arizona 119th ranked pass defense 12 receptions 128 receiving yards 2 TD’s

Tulsa 118th ranked pass defense 7 receptions for 57 receiving yards 1 TD

Texas A&M 113th ranked pass defense 11 receptions for 121 receiving yards 1 TD

Kansas 108th ranked pass defense 8 receptions for 84 yards 2 TD’s

Texas 47th ranked pass defense despite losing 3 corners to the 2011 NFL Draft 7 receptions 74 receiving yards 1 TD

Missouri 91st ranked pass defense 8 receptions 54 receiving yards 1 TD

Baylor 112th ranked pass defense 13 receptions 172 receiving yards 2 TD’s

Kansas Sate 104th ranked pass defense 13 receptions 205 receiving yards 2 TD’s

Texas Tech 65th ranked pass defense 6 receptions 103 receiving yards 2 TD’s

Iowa State 73rd ranked pass defense 10 receptions 99 receiving yards 1 TD

Oklahoma 83rd raked pass defense 10 receptions 95 receiving yards

Stanford 78th ranked pass defense 8 receptions 186 receiving yards and 3 TD’s

Blackmon had another monster season.  He did not face any legit pass defense in 2011.  Did you know half of the defenses Blackmon played ranked in the bottom 2o pass defenses after being ranked outside of the top 100 overall in pass defense?

Justin dropped Braylon Edwards like passes when watching his 2010-2011 tape.  I saw more of the same of that in 2011-2012 when watching some of Blackmon’s tape.  Blackmon is considered a top 5 prospect for the 2012 NFL Draft.  I’ll compare Blackmon to the other top 5 picks to determine who has the best chance to flop.

Andrew Luck is a once in a generation prospect.  Luck is arguably the best prospect I have ever evaluated.  I view Luck as a once in every 15 years kind of QB like John Elway or Peyton Manning.  Luck is the closest thing to a sure thing at quarterback.

Matt Kalil allowed 0 sacks at left tackle and USC gave up the fewest sacks in the entire country only allowing Barkley to get sacked 8 times.  After Andrew Luck, Kalil is my odds on favorite to make it into Canton.  Besides Luck and Kalil I only see one other player making it into Canton at this point and its not any of the other projected top 5 picks.

Robert Griffin III was one of my dark horse quarterbacks back in June.  RGIII won the Heisman Trophy and Matt Barkley returned to school.  RGIII ended his career with a demolition derby win against Washington at the Alamo Bowl winning 67 to 56 which was by far the best bowl game to watch.  RGIII played weaker pass defenses just like Blackmon.  RGIII operated a pro style offense displaying amazing work ethic for a dual threat quarterback.  RGIII runs like Vick and displays accuracy like Brees showing some flashes of a future all pro.

Morris Claiborne is not as physically gifted or as good on special teams as Patrick Peterson.  Claiborne can cover just as effectively as Peterson though.  Claiborne gave Cam Newton fits as a true sophomore which really illustrates Claiborne’s art of being a shutdown corner.

Justin Blackmon is more of a Braylon Edwards type of receiver with Hakeem Nicks size and the potential to become like Anquan Boldin rather than this complete #1 franchise changing target like Andre Johnson, Calvin Johnson, Larry Fitzgerald, or AJ Green that some make Blackmon out to be on NFL Network.  Its just fiscally irresponsible in my mind to spend a top 5 pick on a receiver with that skill set like Blackmon when there are other targets in this draft who may have the potential to fit the bill like Notre Dame’s Michael Floyd.  I think Blackmon has a productive 7 to 10 year career.  I just do not see an NFL team getting top 5 value with Justin Blackmon.  You will get a top 5 pick like Phillip Rivers that just never meets the fans demands despite possibly being in the league for a long time.

The reality is someone will be seduced by Blackmon’s production at Oklahoma State and tell themselves their getting the next Calvin Johnson.  Blackmon has had back to back seasons of 110+ receptions, 1,500+ receiving yards, and 15+ receiving touchdowns over the last two years while ignoring the bleak competition that Justin went up against in football games.  Blackmon is by far and away the most overrated 2012 top 5 prospect when you examine his game next to other top 5 picks Luck, Kalil, RGIII, and Claiborne.  Justin Blackmon will not bust.  Someone will reach for him based on his production alone and it may set their franchise back a few years if said franchise believes their getting a complete #1 game changing target.

Justin Blackmon has the intangibles, blazing speed, soft hands, crisp route running, and sick jumping ability.  I am skeptical about Blackmon’s physical tools plus he has dropped passes on tape in Braylon Edwards type fashion when you watch his highlight reel from 2010-2011 on youtube.  You look at some of the early games in 2011 against Texas A&M, and you will see more of the same from Justin Blackmon.

Blackmon was supposed to weigh 6 foot 1 208 pounds at the combine.  Blackmon only weighs 6 foot 207 pounds and did not run the 40 time at the combine.

Most wide receivers that go in the top 5 are at least 6 foot 2 weighing in between 210 pounds and 234 pounds.  Blackmon is not in the same league as other sure fire top 5 receivers like Andre Johnson, Calvin Johnson, Larry Fitzgerald, or AJ Green when you examine his physical skill set.

The Browns should take Trent Richardson, Morris Claiborne, or Quinton Coples with this selection instead of Blackmon.  At the end of the day, Cleveland ends up taking Justin Blackmon hoping to get Colt McCoy a #1 wide receiver only to watch it blow up in their face after trading the Julio Jones pick to the Atlanta Falcons.

I see Braylon Edwards all over again in Cleveland if they take Oklahoma State wide receiver Justin Blackmon.  If Matt Ryan goes on to win a Super Bowl with Julio Jones while Blackmon flops in Cleveland, the Browns will really wonder what could have happened if they gave up just a little more for RGIII or drafted Julio Jones in 2011.

The RGIII hype is real and the Browns will end up robbing their fans of building a competitor by signing Flynn and drafting Blackmon because of their previous draft failures with Tim Couch and Brady Quinn at quarterback.

5. Tampa Bay Buccaneers 4-12 Morris Claiborne Cornerback LSU Junior The Tampa Bay Buccaneers need a field cornerback and a boundary cornerback.  Aqib Talib could get arrested and Ronde Barber is past his prime.  Greg Schiano has developed great Rutger’s pass defenses in the past.  Rutgers finished 11th out of 120 FBS teams in pass defense under Schiano in 2011.

Schiano can make EJ Biggers, Myron Lewis, and Anthony Gaitor better NFL cornerbacks.  A #1 field cornerback like Morris Claiborne to set the tempo of the Buccaneers secondary for the next decade is exactly what Tampa Bay needs.

Morris Claiborne lined up next to LSU cornerback and 2011 top 5 pick Patrick Peterson.  Claiborne gave quarterbacks like SEC quarterbacks Cam Newton and Ryan Mallett fits as a true sophomore at LSU.  That says something about Claiborne’s ability to cover well.  While Claiborne did play next to Patrick Peterson, his success continued in 2011.

Tyrann Mathieu managed to make big play interceptions because of Claiborne’s presence as a cover corner.  Mathieu will try to continue his success without Claiborne.

6. St. Louis Rams from Washington Redskins Trent Richardson Running Back Alabama Junior I realize the Rams have Steven Jackson at running back.  Jackson has had 7 straight seasons of 1,000 rushing yards and over 2,100 carries.  Jackson turns 29 in July.

Brian Schottenheimer used a two back system as the New York Jets offensive coordinator by using LaDainian Tomlinson and Shonn Green in a two back set.  Schottenheimer may bring a similar offense to St. Louis by pairing Jackson up with Trent Richardson.

Jeff Fisher puts a huge balanced on running a run first balanced offense to set up the pass.  Bradford operated a balanced offense where the offensive lineman focused on pass blocking.  In 2011, Bradford operated a west coast offense with run blocking offensive lineman.  Now Bradford will operate a balanced run first offense that uses a run blocking scheme.

Trent Richardson split carries with 2011 first round pick Mark Ingram.  Richardson had 100+ carries and 700 rushing yards in 2 seasons when splitting carries with former Alabama Heisman Trophy Winner Mark Ingram.

Trent Richardson had 283 carries, 1,679 rushing yards, and 21 rushing touchdowns in 2011 as a junior after Richardson left Alabama to turn pro.  Richardson has the skill set to be a complete rusher.

Many say Richardson is the best back since Adrian Peterson.  Richardson reminds me of a back with Emmitt Smith’s power running and Barry Sanders elusiveness while having the ball carrier vision and pass blocking of a complete rusher on the ground.

Its hard not to believe them since Richardson can bulldoze through other SEC defense while breaking tackles from 5-8 defenders in the box while weighing in at 5 foot 11 225 pounds.  Richardson was a 5 star recruit out of high school.  He has all the tools to be a complete back.

My only con with Trent Richardson in my scouting report was the fact that Alabama’s offensive line may have made Richardson better than he really is with their run blockers.

Alabama will have 4 starters on the offensive line that can run block well in 2012 even though Richardson will be gone from the Crimson Tide’s roster. The Vikings took Adrian Peterson even though he had durability issues at Oklahoma.  I really believe the Rams would take Trent Richardson 6th if they moved down with Washington.

7.  Jacksonville Jaguars Michael Floyd Wide Receiver Notre Dame Senior The Jaguars desperately need to find Blaine Gabbert a #1 target.  Michael Floyd established himself as a top 10 prospect at the Combine.  I keep telling people that Floyd has the ability to be a Randy Moss type receiver.  I’d much rather have Michael Floyd over Justin Blackmon in this draft.

Floyd faced far tougher competition than Justin Blackmon.  Floyd has a 6 foot 3 220 pound size compared to Blackmon’s 6 foot 1 207 pound frame.  Floyd produced 37 touchdowns during 4 years at Notre Dame compared to Blackmon’s 38 combined in 2010 and 2011 and many will say thats the X Factor.

Blackmon faced pee wee pass defenses while Floyd encountered far tougher pass defenses.  In 2011 Michigan ranked 16th out of 120 teams in pass defense.  Floyd had 13 receptions for 159 receiving yards for the Notre Dame Fighting Irish in an Ann Arbor contest against the Wolverines.

Against a Michigan State pass defense that ranked 12th out of 120 teams Floyd had 6 receptions for 84 receiving yards.

Air Force finished 6th out of 120 teams in pass defense.  Floyd had 6 receptions for 78 receiving yards and a receiving touchdown against the Air Force Falcons.

Both South Carolina wide receiver Alshon Jeffery and Michael Floyd were dueling to be the #2 receiver taken in April’s draft.  Floyd ran at the Combine while Jeffery didn’t giving scouts the impression that concerns about him are true.

One opponent that Alshon Jeffery and Michael Floyd both faced in 2011 was the Navy Midshipmen.  Navy ranked 66th out of 120 teams in pass defense  Floyd posted 6 receptions, 121 receiving yards, and 1 receiving touchdown.  Jeffery had only 2 receptions for 35 receiving yards against the same Navy football team that Floyd encountered.

The reality is Jacksonville may be able to double dip at wide receiver landing both Michael Floyd and Alshon Jeffery in round 2 if they play their cards right.  I doubt that happens at this point though.

Previous Pick Alshon Jeffery Wide Receiver South Carolina Junior

Quinton Coples DE/DT/3-4 DE/3-4 OLB North Carolina Senior Coples would give the Jaguars a sack artist that teams feared.

http://www.rantsports.com/mock-draft/2012/02/20/jacksonville-jaguars-offseason-outlook-2/

8. Miami Dolphins 6-10 Riley Reiff Right Tackle Iowa Junior Redshirt Miami gets a right tackle to shore up the offensive line.  Adding the right tackle will give Miami their final missing piece on the offensive line.

The Dolphins will need a bookend pass blocking right tackle as the final piece of their offense if expected to land Peyton Manning and Reggie Wayne in a package deal if the Colts release him as expected.

Other Options

Quinton Coples DE/DT/3-4 DE/3-4 OLB North Carolina Senior Miami may opt for Coples since their switching to a 4-3 defense.  Coples could play right end with Wake playing left end in the Dolphins new 4-3 defense.

http://www.rantsports.com/mock-draft/2012/03/03/miami-dolphins-offseason-outlook-2/

9. Carolina Panthers 6-10 David DeCastro Right Guard Stanford Junior Redshirt David DeCastro was a 3 year starter at right guard for the Stanford Cardinal after redshirting in 2008.  David DeCastro was a 4 star recruit at center in high school.

DeCastro showcased his ability to pass block, run block, and zone block as a complete right guard in 2011.  DeCastro is considered one of the top guards in the nation.

I went back to watch more David DeCastro tape and one thing I learned about DeCastro is he can cut block very effectively.  DeCastro can perform like a starting left guard when executing his cut blocks in precise fashion.

David DeCastro has the ability to play anywhere on the interior offensive line.  His most natural position has to be at right guard though.

Carolina needs some stability on the offensive line.  Right guard Geoff Hangartner is 30 years old and has had some durability issues in the past.  Hangartner did do well in 2011.  There are 4 reasons why Hangarnter will not return.  He has an expiring deal, he’s 30, he has been injured in the past, and Carolina has less cap room to spend than any NFC Team.  Only the Oakland Raiders and Pittsburgh Steelers have less cap room than Carolina.

David DeCastro would provide Carolina with a younger much better version of Hangartner with David DeCastro.

The other thing to consider is that having a blue chip right guard like DeCastro over an effective starter like Hangartner may be enough to help Jeff Otah stay healthy with DeCastro at right guard.

Carolina has stability on the left side of their offensive line with Gross, Travelle Wharton playing so well at left guard that some thought he should move to right tackle, plus Ryan Kalil was playing center.  A blue chip right guard like DeCastro could be added plus Otah has had major durability concerns the past two seasons.

Stability is so important on the offensive line in the NFL.  I’ll list the last 9 Super Bowl winners dating back to Super Bowl 38 listing their offensive lines breaking down strengths and weaknesses.

Super Bowl 38 Champion New England Patriots LT Matt Light, LG Russ Hochstein, C Dan Koppen, RG Joe Andruzzi, RT Tom Ashworth

Offensive Line Analysis This was a great offensive line.  Hochstein and Andruzzi were great guards plus Koppen was the teams center.  Ashworth really had a career year at right tackle in 2003-2004 having one of his best seasons under Dante Scarneccia who has been with New England as an OL coach since 2000.  Scarneccia’ pass blocking schemes helped Tom Brady win 3 Super Bowls.

Super Bowl 39 Champion New England Patriots LT Matt Light, LG Joe Andruzzi, C Dan Koppen, RG Stephen Neal, and RT Brandon Gorin

Offensive Line Analysis Right Tackle Ashworth suffered a hip injury during a 13 to 7 win over the New York Jets.  The following week Ashworth was ruled inactive against the Pittsburgh Steelers.  The ineffective Brandon Gorin was the only weakness on the Patriots offensive line.  Ben Roethlisberger managed to end New England’s 21 game winning streak with a 34 to 20 over New England.  The Patriots had the last laugh by defeating both of Pennsylvania’s NFL teams to win Super Bowl 39.

Super Bowl 40 Champion Pittsburgh Steelers LT Marvel Smith, LG Alen Faneca, C Jeff Hartings, RG Kendall Simmons, RT Max Starks

Offensive Line Analysis This offensive line knew how to pass block, run block, and zone block thanks to former all pro guard Russ Grimm.  The Steelers hired an offensive line coach in Russ Grimm who is a former all pro guard that developed Washington’s bookend tackles with Chris Samuels and Jon Jansen when he was with the Redskins from 1999-2000.  Grimm was a blue collar lineman who blocked for Dan Marino at Pittsburgh along with Mark May and had good roots to the Steel City after finishing a career as a player and coach for the Redskins.

Many people thought Grimm was crazy at first to leave Washington for Pittsburgh.  Grimm ended up having the last laugh as he got the bling while Dan Snyder failed to buy a ring with players in free agency.

The Steelers had a few developmental lineman in the early 2000′s once Grimm got to Pittsburgh.  Grimm developed left tackle Marvel Smith, left guard Alen Faneca, right guard Kendall Simmons, and offensive tackle Max Starks into blue chip offensive lineman.

Pittsburgh also had a steal with Roethlisberger at 11.  Some mock drafts had Roethlisberger going 4th to the Giants with Eli going first to San Diego.  The Chargers loved Rivers at the Senior Bowl.  The Giants only drafted Rivers to force a trade.  Imagine what would have happened if the Giants had just stuck with their gut and got Roethlisberger?

Once Pittsburgh struck black and gold with Roethlisberger in the 2004 NFL Draft these lineman maxed out their potential at the right time.  Pittsburgh’s offense would go on to be one of the better offenses over a two year span because of Ken Whisenhunt at offensive coordinator, Bruce Arians at wide receiver coach, this offensive line being coached by Russ Grimm, along with drafting Ben Roethlisberger to begin as a game manager who would help Bettis win a ring before becoming a full time pass first quarterback.

Super Bowl 41 Champion Indianapolis Colts LT Tarik Glenn, LG Ryan Lilja, C Jeff Saturday, RG Jake Scott, RT Ryan Diem

Offensive Line Analysis The Colts offense put up video game numbers in 2003-2004 which enabled them to get to New England for the AFC Title as a 3 seed.  That Indianapolis Colts 2003-2004 team had a video game offense, blue chip bookend tackles with Tarik Glenn and Ryan Diem playing their best football, and Jeff Saturday at center.

A year later the offense got right guard Jake Scott in the 5th round of the 2004 NFL Draft along with left guard Ryan Lilja who the Colts claimed off of waivers.  The Indianapolis Colts had an elite offensive line developing with their guards before losing to New England again in the divisional round.  The Colts inexperience at guard and a weak secondary helped New England get to Pittsburgh.

The Colts offensive line fully matured for the 2005-2006 season.  The Colts had Harrison, Reggie Wayne, Dallas Clark, Edgerin James, and this offensive line made Manning’s job easy.  The Colts got off to a 13-0 start and looked unstoppable before a loss to Pittsburgh in the divisional round playoffs.  The Colts brutal playoff losses were against elite offenses that had just as much firepower.

The Colts had their defense play great in 2006-2007 plus everyone on offense returned.  The Colts had the fortune of helping Peyton Manning win one for the Colts.

Super Bowl 42 Champion New York Giants LT David Diehl, LG Rich Seubert, C Shaun O Hara, RG Chris Snee, RT Kareem McKenzie

Offensive Line Analysis This offensive line was able to pass block, run block, or zone block.  This Giants offensive line prepared intensely against the Giants pass rushers which helped too.  Like the Super Bowl 41 Colts offensive line or the Super Bowl 40 Steelers offensive line, this offensive line had the right mental mindset to protect Eli Manning.

Super Bowl 43 Champion Pittsburgh Steelers LT Max Starks, LG Chris Kemoeatu, C Justin Hartwig, RG Darnell Stapleton, RT Willie Colon

Offensive Line Analysis The Steelers Super Bowl 40 offensive line was an elite offensive line.  This offensive line was great at pass blocking during the regular season, but struggled with run blocking when injuries up front occured.  Once the playoffs started the run blocking of this line improved with Fast Willie running wild.

I think we can agree that this was the most unstable offensive line among the Super Bowl winning offensive lines over the last 9 years.  Pittsburgh had a complete defense that was #1 in nearly every statistical category when they won Super Bowl 43 along with the veteran playmakers on offense even if the offensive line did struggle at times.  A franchise quarterback, complete defense ranking #1 in every statistical category, and blue chip playmakers at RB, WR, and TE can be sometimes enough to put your team over the top.

Super Bowl 44 Champion New Orleans Saints LT Jermon Bushrod, LG Carl Nicks, C Jonathan Goodwin, RG Jahri Evans, and RT Jonathan Stinchcomb

Offensive Line Analysis Another complete offensive line.  The Saints offensive line drafted run blockers and Sean Payton managed to develop them into pass blockers to protect Brees.  Brees quick release along with the supporting cast of playmakers on offense put the Saints over the top.

Super Bowl 45 Champion Green Bay Packers LT Chad Clifton, LG Daryn Colledge, C Scott Wells, RG Josh Sitton, and RT Bryan Bulaga

Offensive Line Analysis The Packers had a complete offensive line that had the ability to disable blue chip pass rushers like James Harrison and LaMaar Woodley.  Rodgers was also hungrier to win this game at quarterback than the Steelers.

Packers head coach Mike McCarthy was an offensive coordinator that was an offensive mastermind before becoming Packers head coach.  Joe Philbin was an offensive line coach that got promoted to offensive coordinator.

Philbin coached the Packers offensive lineman into better pass blockers.  Philbin also showed Green Bay’s lineman old film of Lombardi showing former Packer greats proper run blocking and zone blocking schemes.

Dom Capers a former NFL head coach installed a 3-4 scheme on defense as Packers defensive coordinator.  Capers was also a defensive backs coach on the Patriots Super Bowl.  Capers was actually the defensive coordinator who designed the 3-4 defense for Cowher to use.

McCarthy grew up in Pittsburgh.  Packers quarterback coach Tom Clements made mediocre quarterbacks like Kordell Stewart and Tommy Maddox look like quality game managers as the Steelers quarterback coach when working for Mike Mularkey.

Rodgers was seen as a quarterback with potential to be great coming out of college.  Sitting behind Brett Favre for so long while getting to work with Green Bay’s coaching staff of offensive coaches at HC, OC, and QB coach really helped Rodgers comprehend the game better as a football player.  Rodgers managed to capitalize and lead the Packers to a Super Bowl when he got a chance.

Despite injuries to the offensive line in 2011, Rodgers had his best season with 45 touchdowns and 6 interceptions as the Packers had playmakers returning from injuries.  Green Bay is losing left tackle Chad Clifton and center Scott Wells to free agency along with Philbin who took the Dolphins head coaching job.

Super Bowl 46 Champion New York Giants LT David Diehl, LG Kevin Booth, C David Baas, RG Chris Snee, RT Kareem McKenzie

Offensive Line Analysis This offensive line appeared past their prime.  David Diehl just moved from left guard back to his original position left tackle after William Beatty got injured.

Diehl and McKenzie were once considered blue chip offensive tackles.  Both players appeared to be past their prime.  The Giants got hot at the right time and I foolishly discounted what the Giants did in the past because of the age on the offensive line.

Snee was the only player under 30 on the offensive line heading into the playoffs.  I thought Kevin Booth and David Baas were both upgradeable on the Giants offensive line heading into the postseason.  Baas ended up facing his former team the 49ers in the NFC Title.  This motivated him to help the Giants win in San Francisco after the 49ers won the regular season meeting.

The Super Bowl 46 Giants had more depth on the defensive line than the Super Bowl 42 Giants even though Strahan was the heart of the Giants 42 defense.  That depth at defensive end really helped motivate the offensive tackles to step up their game.  That motivation was infectious as the rest of the Giants offensive line played well enough in the Super Bowl 42 rematch for the Giants to win.

Back in the preseason I said the Atlanta Falcons would defeat the New England Patriots in this years Super Bowl with New England defeating Baltimore for the AFC Title.  I had most of the pieces of the puzzle right.  The only thing I was wrong about was the team that defeated New England.  That team would go on to be the team that knocked off the Falcons in the wild card round before invading Green Bay, San Francisco, and Lucas Oil Stadium formerly known as “Peyton’s Place.”

You can criticize the DeCastro pick all you want.  Carolina could also consider Quinton Coples or Dontari Poe if they prefer defense.  At the end of the day establishing stability on the offensive line is so important in this league.  Carolina seems intent on establishing that identity this year.

Some Panthers beat writers believe the team will target an offensive tackle early so they have a left tackle when Jordan Gross retires.  The Panthers have starters at offensive tackle with Gross and Otah.  Carolina may add a depth player on day 2 or day 3 to develop.

Carolina could add David DeCastro who would provide an upgrade as a blue chip right guard.  Putting DeCastro at right guard next to 2 blue chip interior lineman who started 16 games helps.

DeAngelo Williams and Jonathan Stewart each had 700+ rushing yards with Mike Goodson serving as a #3 back for depth.  DeAngelo Williams and Jonathan Stewart have a chance to both rush for 1,000 rushing yards if Gross, Wharton, Kalil, and Jeff Otah all play 16 games along with drafting DeCastro as a right guard here.

Williams and Stewart combined for 1,500 rushing yards with Hangartner at right guard.  With DeCastro the Panthers should be able to come close to having both backs combine for 2,000 rushing yards if Carolina runs to set up the pass.

Quinton Coples DE/DT/3-4 DE/3-4 OLB North Carolina Coples may be too good to ignore if he slips to 9th overall.

Dontari Poe DT/3-4 NT/3-4 DE Memphis Dontari Poe would provide an immesne upgrade over what the Panthers currently have at defensive tackle.  I think adding Poe would only help solidify a potential blue chip starter while continuing to add depth on the defensive line.

10. Buffalo Bills 6-10 Quinton Coples Right End North Carolina Senior Quinton Coples falls to 10th overall.  The Bills get a steal with Coples here.  The Bills are looking at left tackle in case Bell goes, wide receiver, and 4-3 pass rushers with this pick.  The Bills have struggled to find a pass rusher to give left tackles fits ever since Bruce Smith left.  This just in, the Bills get their first blue chip pass rusher since Smith by selecting Coples here.

Previous Pick Courtney Upshaw 3-4 Right Outside Linebacker Alabama Senior

None The Bills have to take Coples if he slips to 10th overall by some miracle.

11. Kansas City Chiefs 7-9 Dontari Poe Nose Tackle Memphis Junior Dontari Poe will remind Scott Pioli and Romeo Crennel a lot of Vince Wilfork.  Jerrell Powe was  a 3rd string nose tackle on the Chiefs depth chart behind starter Kelly Gregg who turns 36 and backup Amon Gordon.

Powe has no business going from a 3rd string nose tackle to a starting nose tackle.  Powe had great potential as a 2011 NFL Draft prospect.  Powe could rotate in as a #2 nose tackle for depth behind Dontari Poe.

Poe is 6 foot 5 344 pounds.  Poe did 44 bench press reps at the NFL Combine and dominated his 40 time.  Poe has ability to play 4-3 defensive tackle, 3-4 right end, 3-4 nose tackle, and 3-4 left end.  The last prospect that displayed that kind of versatility on the defensive line was Marcel Dareus.

Poe has a chance to provide more upside than Dareus.  I get the feeling the Chiefs take a huge liking to Poe.

Previous Pick Trent Richardson Running Back Alabama Junior

Other Options None

12. Seattle Seahawks 7-9 Luke Kuechly Middle Linebacker Boston College Junior Luke Kuechly is a top 10 talent and one of the most complete linebacker prospects in this draft.

Kuechly was one of my favorite players all throughout the draft process.  I even mocked Kuechly to Washington at #6 overall at one point.  Kuechly has not disappointed.

Kuechly dominated the combine confirming his top ten talent status.  Kuechly is slightly undersized at 6 foot 3 237 pounds.  Kuechly has the versatility to start anywhere in a 4-3 scheme at linebacker.  Kuechly could play right outside linebacker, middle linebacker, or left outside linebacker.

Kuechly was the Middle Linebacker for a Boston College Eagles defense that operated a 4-3 scheme.  Kuechly was part of a Boston College linebacking core that featured Luke Kuechly, Kevin Pierre Lewis, and Mark Herzlich.

As a freshman Kuechly would start 12 games and be ACC defensive rookie of the year as a true freshman.  Kuechly won ACC player of the week 3 times in 2009 as a true freshman.  Kuechly finished 2nd in the nation with 158 total tackles as a true freshman.  Kuechly also recorded 13 tackles for a loss in 2009.

Boston College faced USC in the 2009 Emerald Bowl.  USC quarterback Matt Barkley a true freshman at quarterback faced Luke Kuechly and his defensive mindset at middle linebacker.

Despite Boston College’s 24-13 loss in the Emerald Bowl, Kuechly showcased great ability forcing Matt Barkley to chuck screen passes deciphering what Barkley would do.  Kuechly would go on to record 16 tackles in the Emerald Bowl ending his freshman season with a bang.

Kuechly continued to improve in 2010.  Kuechly led the nation with 183 total tackles and 110 total tackles a true sophomore.

Kuechly became the fastest Boston College Eagle to reach 200 total tackles.  It only took Kuechly 17 games to get to 200.  Kuechly had over 300 total tackles after his sophomore season.  Kuechly is the only Boston College linebacker to have over 300 total tackles in his first two seasons.

Kuechly recorded 10 total tackles against Nevada in the Kraft Fight Hunger Bowl, 9 of those 10 tackles were solo.  Kuechly showed impressive ability in another bowl game.  This time Boston College would lose due to Nevada quarterback Colin Kaepernick who went on to become a 2011 2nd round pick for the San Francisco 49ers.

Kuechly went on to record 191 total tackles as a junior leading the nation in tackles once again.  Kuechly had 20 tackles in a single game against ACC rival Florida State.

Kuechly showcased great man coverage and zone coverage when watching some of his tape.  Kuechly would play man coverage against Clemson tight end Dwayne Allen who happens to be the top tight end in the 2012 NFL Draft.  Kuechly would play amazing man coverage locking down Notre Dame tight end Tyler Eifert who is the top tight end for the 2013 NFL Draft.

Kuechly is going to be a game changer at middle linebacker.  Kuechly may not be the most physical linebacker.  Kuechly is physical enough to wreak havoc.  Kuechly has Brian Urlacher’s mental intelligence along with AJ Hawk’s versatility.

Seattle will not overpay for David Hawthorne.  Its likely that Kuechly goes to Seattle if Hawthorne walks.

Previous Pick Nick Foles Quarterback Arizona Senior Redshirt

Other Options

Nick Perry RE USC Junior Redshirt Perry is a USC pass rusher.  Seattle really needs to upgrade their pass rush.  Seattle loves Quinton Coples and would consider trading up for him.  Perry went to USC with Pete Carroll.

13. Arizona Cardinals 8-8 Nick Perry 3-4 Right Outside Linebacker USC Junior Redshirt Joey Porter and Clark Haggans have expiring deals.  I expect neither to be retained.  The Cardinals usually go for the best player available.

That player would be Perry here.  Perry can play 4-3 right end or 3-4 right outside linebacker.  Perry is a top ten talent. Perry registered 9.5 sacks and is great at run stuffing.

USC pass rusher Nick Perry weighs 6 foot 3 250 pounds.  Perry does display some weaknesses that teams could exploit.  Perry will be overpowered by blue chip left tackles and will be overwhelmed by left tackles with great size like 6 foot 5 320 pounds at times.  Perry has durability questions that need to be addressed.  One more issue with Perry is his ability to drop back into coverage.  Perry struggles when playing zone coverage.  Perry has to be used as a run stuffer or pass rusher at all times.

Perry could thrive in Arizona as a blue chip pass rusher if Arizona’s coaches help him maximize his potential.  Perry will have more success in a 4-3 defense despite having the versatility to play 3-4 right outside linebacker as well.

Perry seems like a boom or bust prospect in a 3-4 defense.  Perry may end up in a bad spot here because Arizona runs a 3-4 defense.

Previous Pick Jonathan Martin Left Tackle Stanford Junior Redshirt

Other Options

Trade Down The Cardinals may move down if the player they want is not available at #13.  Arizona does not pick again until round 3 thanks to trading for Kolb.  That makes this pick sort of valuable.

Jonathan Martin is a reach at #13 overall.  The Cardinals need a new left tackle.  If Levi Brown becomes a free agent because of how much cap space he takes up, the Cardinals will also need a new right tackle.

14. Dallas Cowboys 8-8 Melvin Ingram 3-4 Left End South Carolina Senior Redshirt Dallas needs a starting 3-4 left end unless they find a nose tackle that can be an upgrade over Jay Ratliff.  Dallas may opt to pursue Melvin Ingram.

The franchise tag of Anthony Spencer caused me to change this pick from Upshaw to Ingram.

Previous Pick Dontari Poe Nose Tackle Memphis Junior

Other Options None

15. Philadelphia Eagles 8-8 Zach Brown Left Outside Linebacker North Carolina Senior Zach Brown dominated the Combine to reconsider a first round spot.  The Eagles have made reaches before and I see another one coming again.

Jamar Cheney led the Eagles in tackles at middle linebacker.  Some think right outside linebacker Brian Rolle has potential despite being a project.

The Eagles need a left outside linebacker starter for right now.  I see the Eagles looking past Zach Brown’s character issues and drafting Zach Brown.

Previous Pick Luke Kuechy Middle Linebacker Boston College Junior

Other Options

Kendall Wright WR Baylor Senior The Eagles want more than a 3rd rounder for Jackson.  The Eagles already have 2 2nds plus 2 4th rounders along with their 1st and 3rd. I don’t think a team is willing to give up more than a 3rd for Jackson at this stage.

16. New York Jets 8-8 Courtney Upshaw 3-4 Right Outside Linebacker Alabama Senior The Jets love Upshaw.  Rex Ryan sees a blue chip pass rusher in Courtney Upshaw.  The Jets take Upshaw to anchor their defense with this pick.

Previous Pick Michael Floyd WR Notre Dame Senior

Other Options

Kendall Wright WR Baylor The Jets could pair up Kendall Wright up with Santonio Holmes giving Mark Sanchez another target to throw to.

17. Cincinnati Bengals from Oakland Raiders 8-8 Janoris Jenkins Cornerback Northern Alabama Senior Janoris Jenkins can be a #1 field cornerback.  Leon Hall may be out until 2013.  The Bengals need someone who can step in right away as a field cornerback who would allow Hall to move back to the boundary cornerback.

Leon Hall began his career as a boundary corner next to Jonathan Joseph.  Leon Hall needs to recover from his injury and try moving back to his original role before earning a chance to become the Bengals #1 field cornerback.

Jenkins managed to keep AJ Green, Julio Jones, and Alshon Jeffery in check.  Jeffery deserves a chance to clean up their act.

Janoris Jenkins is my clear cut #2 corner.  Most scouts are starting to feel that way too after the NFL Combine.

Other Options None

18. San Diego Chargers 8-8 Andre Branch 3-4 Right Outside Linebacker Clemson Senior Redshirt Andre Branch is a 4-3 right end who can command double teams, obtain double digit sacks, stop the run, or play 3-4 right outside linebacker.  Branch had an impressive combine.

The Chargers have a huge need on defense searching for a 3-4 right outside linebacker.  The Chargers usually fool people on draft day with a wild card pick.  Most will expect the Chargers to take Jonathan Martin.  Instead, the Chargers could fool everyone by taking Branch.

Previous Pick David DeCastro Right Guard Stanford Junior Redshirt

Other Options

Jonathan Martin LT Stanford Martin is a blue chip left tackle.  I had him graded ahead of Matt Kalil in the preseason before his production declined.  There are questions about Martin because he struggled in 2011 moving down draft boards.  Martin also skipped the Combine due to food poisoning.  The Chargers do need that blue chip player on the offensive line with the extreme makeover their offensive line is enduring.

Trade Up or Trade Down The Chargers could trade up with Arizona at #13 to get a pass rusher or an offensive tackle depending on what Arizona wants to do.  Arizona has no second round pick.

San Diego could also make a trade here with Detroit or Pittsburgh giving them a blue chip left tackle with Jonathan Martin if Martin is still on the board.

19. Chicago Bears 8-8 Jonathan Martin Left Tackle Stanford Junior Redshirt Jonathan Martin has been a left tackle his entire life.  Martin attended Harvard Westlake High School back in the day.

Harvard Westlake High School is the same place that 2012 MLB Draft prospect Lucas Giolito is currently attending.  Giolito is competing against Stanford pitcher Mark Appel to be the top pick in June’s MLB draft.  The Houston Astros hold the first pick with the Minnesota Twins picking 2nd in June’s Draft.  Appel should go to Houston with Giolito joining the Twins in June.

Back to Jonathan Martin though.  Martin is the main attraction from Harvard Westlake that committed to Stanford before declaring to forgo his senior season at Stanford to turn pro in 2012.

Jonathan Martin graduated from Harvard Westlake High School with a 3.7 GPA weighing in at 6 foot 6 265 pounds back in 2008 at the time.  Martin was the 60th best offensive tackle in the 2008 recruiting class.

Martin was listed as a 3 star recruit.  Stanford got a bargain with Jonathan Martin.  Martin was redshirted at Stanford before starting for 3 straight seasons at left tackle.

Martin put on 40 pounds in 4 seasons at Stanford.  Martin now weighs in at 6 foot 6 foot 305 pounds.

Martin can pass block, run block, or zone block.  Back in May, I compared Martin to former Ravens left tackle Jonathan Odgen.  Worst case scenario, Martin has a productive career at left tackle like former Falcons left tackle Bob Whitfield who played left tackle on the Falcons team that made Super Bowl 33.

J Marcus Webb allowed double digit sacks and penalties.  Chicago needs an upgrade over Webb.  Martin may be an answer for Chicago long term at left tackle despite drafting Gabe Carimi with their 2011 first round pick.

Martin could slip to this pick thanks to his decision not to work out at the 2012 NFL Combine.  Martin did not work out the Combine and claimed he had food poisoning.

The Bears would have a sick bookend tandem with Jonathan “Moose” Martin and Gabe Carimi protecting Jay Cutler at offensive tackle.  Adding Martin allows Chicago to be set at offensive tackle with guards and centers being the only other position to address.

Previous Pick Cordy Glenn Left Guard Georgia Senior

Other Options None

20. Tennessee Titans 9-7 Cordy Glenn Left Guard Georgia Senior Cordy Glenn could be an effective run blocking left guard.  Tennessee needs a left guard next to Jake Scott.  Glenn makes a lot of sense with the 20th pick.

Glenn is one of the best run blockers.  Chris Johnson needs a run blocking guard to pave the running lanes.

Previous Pick Nick Perry Right End USC Junior Redshirt

Other Options None

21. Cincinnati Bengals 9-7 Lamar Miller Running Back Miami FL Sophomore Redshirt Lamar Miller dominated the 2012 NFL Combine.  Miller should be off the board by this spot.

Lamar Miller clocked a 4.38 and a 4.41 at the NFL Combine.  Miller had a great run blocking unit in Miami consisting of 2013 left tackle prospect Seantrel Henderson, Orlando Franklin, Brandon Washington, and 5 star center recruit Brandon Linder who could declare in 2013 or graduate in 2014.

Miller had a great offensive line to work with in terms of run blocking.  Miller had 1,272 rushing yards and 9 rushing touchdowns in 2011.  Miller had 227 carries as a sophomore redshirt.

Previous Pick Andre Branch Right End Clemson Senior Redshirt

Other Options None

22. Cleveland Browns from Atlanta Falcons 10-6 Mike Adams Right Tackle Ohio State Senior The Cleveland Browns seem intent on getting a right tackle to fortify the offensive line with this pick.  Mike Adams is an outstanding run blocker at 6 foot 8 320 pounds.  Adams has illustrated some ability to play left tackle in the NFL during senior bowl week showing major improvements with pass protection.

The Pittsburgh Steelers and Baltimore Ravens are also interested in Adams.  Cleveland can keep Pittsburgh or Baltimore from getting Mike Adams by using their second first round pick on Adams.

Left Tackle Joe Thomas

Left Guard Eric Steinbach with backup Jason Pinkston

Center Alex Mack

Right Guard Jason Pinkston with backup Shawn Lauvao

Right Tackle Mike Adams with backup Tony Pashos

Tony Pashos is in a contract year.  I feel like the Browns will make an upgrade over Pashos.  If Kendall Wright dominates with a killer 40 time then I will change this pick.

With this offensive line Cleveland can give their quarterback whether it be RGIII, Matt Flynn, or Colt McCoy more time.

Kendall Wright WR Baylor The Browns may get Baylor wide receiver Kendall Wright here.  The Browns could also add a target in free agency.  The Steelers and Ravens have both spoke to Mike Adams extensively.  The Browns have also been in major contact with Adams.  I think the Browns could go either way with this pick.

Our Browns writer, Robert Cobb wrote a great piece on some free agents that the Browns may target leading up to the NFL Draft.  I strongly recommend you check this piece out if you are a Cleveland Browns fan.

23. Detroit Lions 10-6 Dre Kirkpatrick Cornerback Alabama Junior Dre Kirkpatrick provides great value with the 23rd pick.  Dre Kirkpatrick was once graded out as the top cornerback in this entire draft.  I even put Dre Kirkpatrick in my top 5 overall back in my first mock draft.

Kirkpatrick has been exploited against receivers with massive size and blazing speed at Alabama.  Plus there are some off the field concerns with Kirkpatrick which is the main reason Dre Kirkpatrick slides to 23rd overall in this mock draft.

Other Options None

24. Pittsburgh Steelers 12-4 Donta Hightower 3-4 Middle Linebacker Alabama Junior Redshirt Pittsburgh needs an immediate starter at 3-4 middle linebacker now that James Farrior is gone.

The Steelers could get Jon Beason type value with Hightower at #24.  The Carolina Panthers took Beason 25th overall in the 2007 NFL Draft that featured .  Beason finished in the top 4 in tackles each of his first 3 seasons with 130+ tackles.

Hightower is the linebacker that the Steelers may seem to take a liking to.  The Steelers had their team scout and Joe Green in attendance on day 3 of the combine.  Hightower was one player that impressed the Steelers.

Luke Kuechly and Courtney Upshaw are top 10 talents in the eyes of some teams at 3-4 middle linebacker.  Hightower is a 1st round talent with Audie Cole a 3rd round talent at 3-4 middle linebacker being the next best 3-4 middle linebacker.

Previous Pick Vontaze Burfict 3-4 Middle Linebacker Arizona State Junior

Other Options

Kendall Wright WR Baylor Kendall Wright becomes an option as a #2 target next to Antonio Brown in the rare event that Mike Wallace and Hines Ward both leave Pittsburgh.  I seriously doubt this happens.

25. Denver Broncos 8-8 Devon Still Defensive Tackle Penn State Senior Redshirt Devon Still impressed at the NFL Combine.  Still now reenters the first round conversation.  Denver would not hesitate to add Devon Still if he slides this far.

Previous Pick Kendall Wright Wide Receiver Baylor Senior

Other Options

Kendall Wright WR Baylor Denver could target Baylor wide receiver Kendall Wright at 25.  Tebow would love to have another target.

26. Houston Texans 10-6 Kendall Wright Wide Receiver Baylor Senior The Texans would love to have a #2 target next to Andre Johnson.  Kendall Wright would provide highway robbery for the Texans if he slips to #26 overall.

Houston gets a steal with Wright to solidify their receivers.  Wright would start next to Johnson.  Kevin Walter would compete with Jacoby Jones as a slot receiver.

Previous Pick Peter Konz Center Wisconsin Junior Redshirt

TRADE ALERT! Kansas City Chiefs trade 2012 2nd round pick 44th Overall Pick, 2012 3rd Round Pick 75th overall, and 2012 7th round pick 203rd Overall Pick for New England Patriots from New Orleans Saints pick

Why it makes sense for the Kansas City Chiefs?  Romeo Crenell knows Matt Cassel beter than anyone else.  Scott Pioli loves both Andrew Luck and RGIII.  I think their the mystery team that may want to move up.  The Chiefs may move up for Ryan Tannehill.  Tannehill can sit behind Matt Cassel and take over as the Chiefs when the time comes.  The NFL is a copycat league.  Denver moved up for Tim Tebow.  Kansas City may do something similar with Tannehill here.

Why it makes sense for the New England Patriots?  New England loves moving down.  This trade makes complete sense for the Patriots.

27. Kansas City Chiefs from New England Patriots via New Orleans Saints 13-3 Ryan Tannehill Quarterback Texas A&M Senior Redshirt Kansas City seems like they want to bring in a developmental quarterback who can be a long term answer.

Pioli loves Luck and RGIII.  I think the Chiefs are the mystery team that may move up to #2 overall.  If Pioli cannot get Luck or RGIII, the Chiefs can get Ryan Tannehill to compete with Matt Cassell.

Other Options None

28. Green Bay Packers 15-1 Whitney Mercilus 3-4 Right Outside Linebacker Illinois Junior Redshirt The Packers need a 3-4 right outside linebacker.  Clay Matthews is a 3-4 left outside linebacker.  Mercilus led the nation in sacks.  Mercilus is also a good run stuffer.  Mercilus can play in a 4-3 or a 3-4 defense.

Mercilus is the final first round talent on our draft board.  After that its all 2nd round prospects from here.

Previous Pick Courtney Upshaw 3-4 Right Outside Linebacker Alabama Senior

Other Options None

29. Baltimore Ravens 12-4 Mark Barron Free Safety Alabama Senior Ravens free safety Ed Reed is nearing the end of his career.  Mark Barron should be a first round pick.  I had Barron as a 2nd round talent.  I moved Barron up to a 1st round talent because its looking like a given consensus that Barron goes in round 1.

Other Options None

30. San Francisco 49ers Kevin Zeitler Right Guard Wisconsin Senior The 49ers need a starting right guard.  Zeitler started at right guard for Wisconsin.  Zeitler also showed he can play left guard and center by playing other positions on the interior offensive line.

The reason I mocked Zeitler here is because I wanted to give the 49ers a player that the Steelers would take as well in case Mike Wallace gets an RFA tender from another team.  I’ll update the mock if a tender occurs.  For now, I’ll keep the 49ers at #30.

Adding Zeitler gives the 49ers a complete offensive line when healthy.  Left tackle Joe Staley, right tackle Anthony Davis, left guard Mike Iupati, and former Saints center Jonathan Goodwin give the 49ers offensive line stability.  The 49ers lack a right guard to solidify the lineup.

Other Options None

TRADE ALERT! The Green Bay Packers trade their 2013 first round pick for the New England Patriots 31st Overall Pick

Why It Makes Sense For The Green Bay Packers?  Packers center Scott Wells is a free agent.  I think Green Bay would love to move back into round 1 for Peter Konz.  Konz is a hometown product of Wisconsin.  The Packers could give up a 2013 first rounder sort of like what the Saints did in the 2011 NFL Draft when moving up for running back Mark Ingram.

Why It Makes Sense For The New England Patriots? New England moves down for more players and more picks each year.  New England would have 2 2013 first rounders, 3 2012 2nd rounders, 2 2012 3rd rounders, a 2012 4th rounder, and a 2012 7th rounder.

31. Green Bay Packers from New England Patriots 13-3 Peter Konz Center Wisconsin Junior Redshirt Green Bay is losing center Scott Wells to free agency.  Green Bay would love to add hometown prospect Peter Konz to the offensive line.

Green Bay has tons of offensive tackle depth even with the loss of left tackle Chad Clifton.  TJ Lang plays left guard.

Other Options None

32. New York Giants 9-7 Michael Brockers Defensive Tackle LSU Sophomore Redshirt Michael Brockers was once a top 10 prospect after the underclassmen deadline.  Brockers really struggled at the 2012 NFL Combine.  Brockers went from being a top 10 talent going 9th overall to a 2nd round talent barely cracking round 1.

Previous Pick Dwayne Allen Tight End Clemson Junior Redshirt

Other Options None

Round 2

33. St. Louis Rams 2-14 Stephon Gilmore Cornerback South Carolina Junior Prediction, the Rams will be real active in free agency.  I would not be shocked if the Rams got Cortland Finnegan, Michael Griffin, and Chris Hope 3 former Titans who played for Jeff Fisher.  Then the Rams could add the final piece to their secondary with this pick.

Stephon Gilmore went up against Alshon Jeffery in one on one battles during practice sessions at South Carolina.

Stephon Gilmore can play man coverage, zone coverage, and blitz well off of the snap.  One thing Gilmore needs to work on is his press coverage.  South Carolina allowed 14 passing touchdowns so Gilmore’s press coverage could use some tuning.

Gilmore is 6 foot 195 pounds he has good size and footwork for a cornerback.  I think Gilmore has the ability to move up with a good combine.

South Carolina had the 3rd ranked pass defense entering the Bowl games.  South Carolina finished the season 2nd in overall pass defense out of 120 teams.  The only team to rank ahead of South Carolina in pass defense this season was Alabama.

The reality is Gilmore needs to get drafted in the first round.  Gilmore may fall to the top of the second round because some NFL scouts who have watched South Carolina play haven’t been overly impressed with Gilmore.

South Carolina’s pass defense allowed 131.69 passing yards per game.  Only Alabama allowed fewer passing yards.  South Carolina allowed 1,712 passing yards per game.  Teams have only completed 50.29 percent of their passes against this South Carolina pass defense.

As a New England Patriots fan, I hope we get Gilmore with one of the two first round picks if Belicheck decides to add a cornerback in the late first round.

Fans of teams like the Detroit Lions, Pittsburgh Steelers, Green Bay Packers, San Francisco 49ers, and New England Patriots should be pumped up if their team lands Gilmore in the late portion of round 1.

Other Options None

34. Indianapolis Colts 2-14 Alshon Jeffery Wide Receiver South Carolina Junior After quarterback and left tackle, flanker receiver is the most important position.  Alshon Jeffery was once a top 5 prospect back in May.  Jeffery struggled in 2011.

Jeffery weighs in at 6 foot 4 229 pounds.  Jeffery struggled with production in 2011 with 49 receptions, 762 receiving yards, and 8 receiving touchdowns.

In 2010, Jeffery had 88 receptions, 1,517 receiving yards, and 9 receiving touchdowns in 2010 as a true sophomore.  Jeffery struggled against teams.  To Jeffery’s defense he didn’t have a quarterback who could get him the ball.  Jeffery also had to face far tougher pass defenses in the SEC than either Justin Blackmon or Michael Floyd.

Jeffery could provide excellent value and be a draft steal at the top of round 2 if Andrew Luck is getting him the football.  I feel like Jeffery could become a pro bowl target with Luck to throw to.

Previous Pick Kevin Zeitler Center Wisconsin Senior

Other Options None

35. Minnesota Vikings 3-13 Nick Toon Wide Receiver Wisconsin Senior Redshirt Minnesota will need a wide receiver to pair up next to 2009 first round pick Percy Harvin.  Nick Toon provides great value in round 2.

There are 3 different receivers that the Vikings could target in round 2.  Toon is my frontrunner to land on the Vikings among these 3 receivers.

Nick Toon weighs 6 foot 3 220 pounds.  Toon was the Badgers #1 flanker target for Russell Wilson to throw to in 2011.  Toon had 64 receptions, 926 receiving yards, and 10 receiving touchdowns in 2011.

Nick Toon is the son of Al Toon.  Being the son of a hall of fame receiver has helped Toon mature into a crisp route runner.

Nick Toon has the ability to be a great red zone target.  Toon has the physical ability to give corners who play press coverage trouble.

Toon is going to be the red zone target that catches passes as a secondary receiver.  Toon’s ability is limited because he lacks the speed, agility, isn’t explosive enough when jumping in the air.  Toon is inconsistent at times because he has a tendency to drop passes when watching the tape.

Previous Pick Andrew Datko Left Tackle Florida State Senior

Other Options

Mohammed Sanu WR Rutgers The Vikings may decide that Mohammed Sanu is the best receiver at this point.  The knock that some have on Sanu is that he only played one full year at wide receiver.

Brian Quick WR Appalachin State The Vikings took a look at Appalachin State’s Brian Quick.  I could see the Vikings taking Brian Quick here too.

36. Tampa Bay Buccaneers 4-12 Mohammed Sanu Wide Receiver Rutgers Junior Mohammed Sanu is 6 foot 2 215 pounds.  Sanu had 115 receptions, 1,206 receiving yards, and 7 receiving touchdowns in 2011.  Sanu has the work ethic to become Freeman’s #1 target.

Tampa Bay will bring in Mario Manningham as a secondary option.  Dezmond Briscoe caught 6 of Freeman’s 16 receiving touchdowns.  Tampa Bay can have a deadly receiving core with Sanu as the flanker, Manningham as a secondary target, Briscoe in the slot, Mike Williams working for a roster spot on the bench, and Arrellious Benn as a reserve after the other 4 receivers.  Doing all this gives Tampa Bay much more stability on offense.

Other Options

Chris Polk RB Washington The Buccaneers will take Chris Polk if Mohammed Sanu is gone.  Tampa Bay needs a running back to replace Legarratte Blount for good.

37. Cleveland Browns 4-12 Chris Polk Running Back Washington Junior Redshirt Cleveland will need a running back if Peyton Hillis leaves.  Despite the poor Senior Bowl, Polk has the skill set to become a complete running back.  Polk is graded out as my 3rd best back behind Trent Richardson and Lamar Miller.

Polk may have struggled at the Senior Bowl.  Polk rebounded at the Combine.  Polk had 3 straight seasons of 1,100 rushing yards.

Previous Pick Chase Minnifield Cornerback Virginia Senior Redshirt

Other Options

David Wilson RB Virginia Tech David Wilson is being considered by some as the top back after Trent Richardson.  I like Richardson and Miller as the top 2 backs.

38. Jacksonville Jaguars 5-11 Brian Quick Wide Receiver Appalachin State Senior Redshirt Brian Quick would be the best receiver available.  Quick is the only flanker receiver available.

Brian Quick has great intangibles, an average learning rate, and needs to improve route running while weighing in at 6 foot 4 222 pounds.  Putting Quick next to Michael Floyd gives the Jaguars two go to targets for Blaine Gabbet to throw to.

Brian Quick is a 6 foot 5 220 pound flanker receiver from Appalachin State.  Quick is a small school receiver with the physical tools that teams will covet.

Quick recorded 71 receptions, 1,096 receiving yards, and 11 receiving touchdowns for Appalachin State in 2011.

Previous Pick Marvin McNutt Wide Receiver Iowa Senior Redshirt

Other Options None

39. St. Louis Rams from Washington Redskins 5-11 Markelle Martin Free Safety Oklahoma State Senior Markelle Martin could become a blue chip starter if the Rams take him.  With the Titans likely to tag Michael Griffin at free safety, Markelle Martin becomes a round 2 option for St. Louis.

Previous Pick Nick Toon Wide Receiver Wisconsin Senior Redshirt

Other Options None

40. Carolina Panthers 6-10 Brandon Mosley Right Tackle Auburn Senior Carolina would have their offensive tackles for the next decade if Carolina takes Mosley.

Jordan Gross and Jeff Otah would be the starters when healthy.  Newton’s bookend offensive tackles at Auburn would come in when injuries occur.  Lee Ziemba could be a backup left tackle to Jordan Gross with Brandon Mosley being a backup to Jeff Otah.

Carolina has hinted that they would take an offensive tackle early.  Mosley is my top graded offensive tackle.

Previous Pick Zebrie Sanders Right Tackle Florida State Senior

Other Options

Stephen Hill WR Georgia Tech Hill is a secondary receiver.  Hill has the size 6 foot 4 215 and the 40 time to be a secondary receiver on Carolina.  I think Carolina wants a secondary receiver that can develop into a #1 flanker.  Gettis is a slot receiver that can develop into a secondary target.  Do the Panthers want Hill or Gettis as a #2 target?

41. Buffalo Bills 6-10 Vinny Curry Left End Marshall Senior Vinny Curry, Cam Johnson, and Whitney Mercilus have convinced me their overrated 4-3 left end prospects compared to a pass rusher like Quinton Coples at this point.  Vinny Curry joins Coples as a bookend pass rusher in Buffalo in this mock draft.

Curry is fantastic in terms of production and physical skill set.  I am uncertain about Curry’s mental attributes translating which is why I see a rotational left end at best right now.

Curry’s production literally speaks for itself though.  In 2011, Curry had 11 sacks, 6 forced fumbles, and a second best 21.5 tackles for a loss.  Vinny Curry accumulated 94 total stops and 12 sacks in 2010 as a junior at Marshall.

Curry has the consistency and production of an elite pass rusher.  It all comes down to whether a team believes Curry can translate his skill set at the NFL level.

Other Options

Cam Johnson DE/3-4 OLB Virginia The Bills could also target Cam Johnson as a complimentary pass rusher at 4-3 left end.

42. Miami Dolphins 6-10 Brock Osweiler Quarterback Arizona State Junior Brock Osweiler is capable of starting now.  In Miami, Osweiler could sharpen any raw aspects of his game by starting as a 3rd stringer behind Peyton Manning and Matt Moore.

Osweiler could work his way up Miami’s depth chart.  The 6 foot 8 240 pound quarterback threw 4,036 passing yards, 26 passing touchdowns, and 13 interceptions in one full year as a starter in Arizona State’s shotgun spread offense.

Osweiler can play in a spread offense or a vertical offense.  Miami can develop Osweiler into a elite quarterback with the right development.

I think Osweiler becomes the steal of this draft here.  I’d take Brock Osweiler over Ryan Tannehill.  The consensus likes Tannehill better plus Osweiler refused to throw at his pro day.  Tannehill has more experience as a starter and some extensive ability to comprehend a pro style offense at this point.  That’s really what separates Tannehill from Osweiler at this point.

Other Options None

Previous Pick Cam Johnson Left End Virginia Senior

43. Seattle Seahawks 7-9 Nick Foles Quarterback Arizona Senior Redshirt Nick Foles is a 3 year project.  Foles has Ben Roethilsberger type potential.  Foles will need seasoning and will play like Blaine Gabbert if you rush him into your lineup as a rookie.

Foles weighs 6 foot 5 240 pounds.  Foles has the rocket arm and ability to pump fake passes to confuse defenders.  Foles accuracy and decision making needs some work.

Darrell Bevell could coach Foles into a good quarterback.  Bevell has operated a pro style west coast offense.  Foles can succeed if he can learn Bevell’s offense.  The supporting cast on the offensive line plus the playmakers are beginning to mature at the right time.

Foles threw 28 touchdowns and 14 interceptions in 2011 after throwing 20 touchdowns and 10 interceptions in 2010.  Foles threw for 4,334 passing yards

Previous Pick Orson Charles Tight End Georgia Junior

Other Options None

44. New England Patriots from Kansas City Chiefs 7-9 Brandon Thompson Defensive Tackle Clemson Senior Brandon Thompson has the versatility to play in a 4-3 or a 3-4 defense.  Thompson can play 4-3 defensive tackle or 3-4 defensive end.

Thompson is one of the best defensive tackles in this draft.  Thompson struggled at the combine which is the only reason why Thompson slips this far in this mock draft

Previous Pick Whitney Mercilus Right End Illinois Junior Redshirt

Other Options None

45. Dallas Cowboys 8-8 Kirk Cousins Quarterback Michigan State Senior Redshirt Dallas needs a backup to succeed Tony Romo.  Jerry Jones sometimes thinks like a fantasy football owner rather than an NFL owner.  I could see Jones drafting Cousins solely based on his one big hail mary play against Wisconsin.

I got Cousins graded out as a 2nd round talent.  Jerry Jones is a prisoner of the moment.  That’s why I got Cousins going here.  Some have Cousins graded out as their 4th best quarterback after the Combine.  I still like Osweiler and Foles better.  Kirk Cousins has closed the gap though.

Previous Pick Casey Heyward Cornerback Vanderbilt Senior

Other Options None

46. Philadelphia Eagles 8-8 Kendall Reyes Defensive Tackle Connecticut Senior Redshirt The Eagles need a starter next to Cullen Jenkins.  Mike Patterson is more of a rotational player at right defensive tackle.  Kendall Reyes could earn a starting job on the Eagles defensive line with an impressive showing in Eagles training camp.

Kendall Reyes has the ability of a 4-3 defensive tackle or a 3-4 right end.  Reyes is more of  a run stuffer.  Reyes is not a natural pass rusher plus he lacks stamina as a versatile prospect.  That makes me want to question Reyes work ethic even if he has the potential.

The Eagles will believe they can mold Reyes into a starter.  You cannot really blame the Eagles for wanting to take Reyes if they need a starter at defensive tackle.

Previous Pick Zach Brown Left Outside Linebacker North Carolina Senior

Other Options

Brandon Washington OT/G Miami FL The Eagles may want depth on the offensive line.  The Eagles may pursue Washington with this pick.

47. New York Jets 8-8 Stephen Hill Wide Receiver Georgia Tech Junior The Jets need a #2 receiver to compliment Santonio Holmes.  Stephen Hill is 6 foot 4 215 pounds.  Hill could be a great secondary receiver next to Santonio Holmes.

Previous Pick Mark Barron Strong Safety Alabama Senior

Other Options None

48. New England Patriots from Oakland Raiders 8-8 Casey Heyward Cornerback Vanderbilt Senior New England is considering moving Ras I Dowling to free safety with Patrick Chung moving back to his natural spot at strong safety.

New England has Devin McCourty as a field cornerback and Kyle Arrington at boundary cornerback.  A nickel cornerback is needed though.  Casey Heyward makes a lot of sense here.

Casey Heyward would make a great nickel cornerback.  New England desperately needs a nickel cornerback.

Previous Pick Markelle Martin Strong Safety Oklahoma State Senior

Other Options

Cam Johnson DE/3-4 OLB Virginia New England may get a 4-3 left end.  I think New England pursues Mario Williams as a 4-3 right end if he hits free agency.  The Patriots may draft a left end.  Cam Johnson could be an option.

Harrison Smith S Notre Dame Harrison Smith is a 6 foot 2 214 pound two way safety.  Smith could be a good safety for depth.  Mike Mayock loves Harrison Smith.  Smith dominated the 2012 NFL Combine.

49. San Diego Chargers 8-8 Andrew Datko Left Tackle Florida State Senior San Diego needs a complete makeover on the offensive line.  Adding Andrew Datko in round 2 could provide good value.  Datko has potential to become a solid starter.

Datko can become a blue chip left tackle like Chad Clifton if he answers durability concerns.  San Diego’s west coast offense uses a pass blocking scheme.  With a major renovation on the offensive line getting blue chip pieces for this offensive line is critical.

Previous Pick Lamar Miller Running Back Miami FL Sophomore Redshirt

Other Options None

50. Chicago Bears 8-8 Harrison Smith Free Safety Notre Dame Senior The Chicago Bears will need a major free safety upgrade over Major Wright.  The Bears may be sold on Harrison Smith being that key player in round 2.

Other Options None

51. Philadelphia Eagles from Arizona Cardinals 8-8 Zebrie Sanders Left Tackle Florida State Senior Zebrie Sanders is better suited at right tackle.  He can play left tackle though.  Zebrie Sanders filled in for Andrew Datko at left tackle when Datko got injured in 2011.

Zebrie Sanders may be good enough to beat out Winston Justice for the Eagles #3 offensive tackle on their depth chart.  That means Zebrie Sanders would become a starting offensive tackle in the event of an injury to Jason Peters at left tackle or Todd Herramans at right tackle.  Winston Justice would remain backup right tackle.  Justice would mainly be a reserve.

Previous Pick Devon Still Defensive Tackle Penn Statte Senior Redshirt

52. Tennessee Titans 8-8 Cam Johnson Left End Virginia Senior The Titans may need a left end to play next to Derrick Morgan.  Cam Johnson is the best player available.  Cam Johnson gives Tennessee a run stuffing left end to compliment a pass rusher in Morgan.

Previous Pick Kendall Reyes Defensive Tackle Connecticut Senior Redshirt

Other Options None

53. Cincinnati Bengals 9-7 Fletcher Cox Defensive Tackle Mississippi State Junior Pat Simms and Jonathan Fanene are about to become free agents.  Depth behind Domata Peko and Geno Atkins will be needed in Cincinnati.

Fletcher Cox of Mississippi State was once a late first round prospect.  Mississippi State ranked 68th in run defense out of 120 FBS teams.  Fletcher Cox has struggled against run stuffing teams.  Fletcher Cox is a #2 complimentary defensive tackle on a starting lineup rather than a #1 defensive tackle like Suh.

Putting Fletcher Cox in this situation is perfect because Cox does not have to worry about being a starting defensive tackle right off the get go.

Other Options None

54. Detroit Lions 10-6 Josh Robinson Cornerback Central Florida Junior Josh Robinson is the best player available.  Robinson was able to contain AJ Green in a bowl win over Georgia in 2010 as a sophomore when AJ Green was a junior.

Josh Robinson had the fastest 40 time of the cornerbacks.  I think the Lions realize that Robinson is too good to pass on in round 2.

Previous Pick Jayron Hosley Cornerback Virginia Tech Junior

Other Options None

55. Atlanta Falcons 10-6 David Wilson Running Back Virginia Tech Junior David Wilson is 5 foot 10 205 pounds.  Wilson had 290 carries for over 1,700 ruhing yards.

Previous Pick Brandon Mosley Left Tackle Auburn Senior

Other Options None

56. Pittsburgh Steelers 12-4 Doug Martin Running Back Boise State Senior Redshirt There is only one 2nd round talent left.  That player is Boise State running back Doug Martin.  Art Rooney II hinted that he wants the Steelers to become more of a run first team.

I think that means the Steelers will be open to adding running backs and offensive lineman depending on who the best players available.

Doug Martin is the 5th best running back after underclassmen Trent Richardson, Lamar Miller, Chris Polk, and David Wilson.  Martin is clearly the top senior running back in this draft.

I don’t think the Steelers are sold on Mendenhall long term.  Getting rid of Mendenhall would allow them to sign Mike Wallace long term if Wallace gets brought back by tender.  Wallace is a long term player and Mendenhall isn’t due to the evolution of the NFL as a pass first league.

Issac Redman is a good #2 back that played like a good rotational back in the playoffs.  Even if Redman starts next year, a #2 back is needed with Mendenhall’s injury.  That #2 back could be Boise State running back Doug Martin.

Doug Martin has all the physical tools needed to be a top back.  Martin weighed 5 foot 9 215 pounds heading into the season.  Martin is now 5 foot 9 223 pounds.

Doug Martin has started since his sophomore redshirt season.  In 2009 Martin got moved to special teams and defense before moving back Martin had 129 carries, 765 rushing yards, and 15 rushing touchdowns in 9 starts.  Doug Martin also scored the game winning touchdown over the TCU Horned Frogs in the Fiesta Bowl.

Doug Martin started all of his games for Boise State in 2010 and 2011 for the Broncos.  In 2010, Doug Martin had 201 carries, 1,260 rushing yards, and 12 rushing touchdowns.  In 2011, Martin had 263 carries, 1,299 rushing yards, and 16 rushing touchdowns.

Doug Martin showcased his intangibles down in Mobile Alabama during Senior Bowl week.  Martin also dominated the 2012 NFL Combine.

Martin is great with catching passes out of the backfield.  Martin could be like former Boise State teammate Ian Johnson worst case scenario.  Best case scenario, Martin ends up becoming the next Maurice Jones Drew.  Lots of people are comparing Martin to a younger version of Maurice Jones Drew.

Doug Martin is consistent and has a great work ethic.  Martin struggles with ball carrier vision, pass blocking, fumbles the ball, and lacks the height to play running back at five foot 9.

Martin’s predecessor Ian Johnson went undrafted because he had the exact same weaknesses as Martin despite running the fastest 40 time at the 2009 NFL Combine.  Ian Johnson scored a game winning touchdown in the 2007 Fiesta Bowl against Oklahoma before proposing to his girlfriend after Boise State won at the time.

Martin could end up becoming the next Maurice Jones Drew.  I think Martin reminds me more of Ian Johnson.

Pittsburgh has to take Doug Matin here because he’s the final 2nd round talent worth taking in round 2 that is not a reach being considered a 3rd round talent.  Kevin Colbert understands the importance of value picks in the draft better than anyone else.  Colbert has passed on needs for value in the 2nd round to obtain 2nd round talents in years past.  2010 Colbert took Worilds and in 2008 Colbert took Limas Sweed in round 2.

Doug Martin is a great value pick in the late part of the 2nd round.  It will be interesting to see how Martin would compete against John Clay, Jonathan Dwyer, and Baron Batch.

Martin is more of a power runner than an elusive runner.  The Steelers prefer power runners to elusive runners.  Doug Martin may be a major project.  Kirby Wilson is one of the leagues best running back coaches.  I can see Wilson coaching Doug Martin into an all pro back in Pittsburgh with the Steelers run blocking scheme.  At the same time, I could also see the Martin pick blowing up in their face if they part ways with Mendenhall refusing to upgrade the offensive line.

Doug Martin led running backs in the bench press and and finished in the top 5 in all of the running back drills despite running a 4.55 40 time.

Some Steelers fans will love the idea of Doug Martin while others hate this pick.  Either way Martin will draw more attendance considering running backs are considered fan favorites in Pittsburgh.

Other Options None

57. Denver Broncos 8-8 Brandon Weeden Quarterback Oklahoma State Senior With no second round talents left, Denver has to reach for 3rd round talents based on need.  The 28 year old Oklahoma State quarterback Brandon Weeden turns 29 years old.  Weeden plays in a shotgun spread offense.  Weeden had all the physical tools and production in the world.

Weeden had the gunslinger arm, durability, and 6 foot 4 218 pound frame with Weeden’s size.  Weeden threw 4,727 passing yards, 37 passing touchdowns, and 13 interceptions in a shotgun spread no huddle offense at Oklahoma State.

There were questions about Weeden’s accuracy and intangibles.  Weeden answered those questions at the Senior Bowl and illustrated that he can make all the throws.

My only 2 red flag concerns with Weeden are how he adapts from a shotgun spread offense to a pro style offense along with the age.  Weeden is currently 28 years old and 45 days older than Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers.

Weeden could take 2 to 5 years to learn an NFL playbook.  By the time Weeden is 33 he could start declining physically.  Denver needs to bring in a backup to Tim Tebow.  Brandon Weeden is my top quarterback available at this point.  Weeden would make a lot of sense as a short term backup to Tim Tebow.

One weakness Weeden has is his reaction to opposing blitzers.  Tebow’s mechanics may be lackluster compared to Weedens.  Tebow is much better at reacting to blitzes than Weeden.

Previous Pick Kirk Cousins Quarterback Michigan State Senior Redshirt

58. Houston Texans 10-6 Ben Jones Center Georgia Senior The Texans will need a new center if Chris Meyers leaves.  Ben Jones is the best player available at this point.

Previous Pick Brandon Washington Left Guard Miami FL Junior

Other Options None

59. New Orleans Saints 13-3 Sean Spence Right Outside Linebacker Miami FL Senior The New Orleans Saints may lose this pick to bounty gate.  I will probably change this pick in our 4.0 mock which will be posted in April after all the offseason outlooks and NFL pro days are done.

Sean Spence would give the Saints a right outside linebacker who could anchor the weak side as a WILL linebacker.

Other Options None

60. Green Bay Packers 15-1 Delano Howell Free Safety Stanford Senior Like Nick Collins, Delano Howell has the versatility to play strong safety or free safety.  The Packers need a new safety in case Nick Collins never recovers from his neck injury.

Other Options

Joe Long LT Wayne State Joe Long is the little brother of 2008 #1 overall pick Jake Long.  I got Joe Long as my 10th best left tackle behind Zebrie Sanders, Andrew Datko, Brandon Washington, Brandon Mosley, Mike Adams, Cordy Glenn, Jonathan Martin, Riley Reiff, and Matt Kalil.

Not all of those left tackles will play left tackle.  Based on the fact that they can play left tackle its impressive that Joe Long is a 3rd round sleeper.  Green Bay may take a liking to Joe Long.

Josh Norman CB Coastal Carolina The Packers could use another cornerback for depth.  Norman has the size and dominated the East West Shrine Game.

61. Baltimore Ravens 12-4 Joe Long Left Tackle Wayne State Senior Redshirt The Ravens get a new left tackle every year.  Joe Long is the little brother of Jake Long.  The Ravens get a new starting left tackle every year.

A new left tackle along with a new quarterback coach every year is probably why the Ravens fall short every year.  Flacco will have Bryant McKennie back at left tackle along with his quarterback coach back.

Baltimore is going to get both back.  Joe Flacco will be in a contract year.  Ray Rice got franchised.  The Ravens are motivated to put up another big season after falling short.  Cleveland could give them a threat if they get RGIII.  Pittsburgh should have a down year with all the players they release.  You just get this feeling that Cincinnati may regress in 2012.

Previous Pick Ben Jones Center Georgia Senior

Other Options None

62. San Francisco 49ers 13-3 Joe Adams Wide Receiver Arkansas Senior Joe Adams is a 5 foot 11 190 pound wide receiver.  Adams can line up as a flanker or a secondary receiver.  Adams has the ability of a flanker, but would probably start out as a #2 target next to Crabtree.

Adams recorded 54 receptions, 652 receiving yards, and 3 receiving touchdowns in 2011.

Adams dominated the route running drills during Senior Bowl week.  Adams makes pro bowl like plays at times.  You would like to see a more consistent showing from Joe Adams.

Previous Pick Keleche Osmele Right Guard Iowa State Senior Redshirt

Other Options None

63. New England Patriots 13-3 George Iloka Free Safety Boise State Senior New England will need to add a two way safety for depth behind Ras I Dowling.  Boise State safety George Iloka could be a good late 2nd round option.

Iloka has not been the best cover safety.  Iloka’s versatility and 6 foot 3 216 pound size are two things that may entice New England to take a late round flyer on Iloka.

Other Options None

64. New York Giants 9-7 Kelechi Osmele Left Guard Iowa State Senior Redshirt The only other offensive lineman that I have listed as a 3rd round talent is Kelechi Osmele.  I have 5 tight ends including Dwayne Allen listed as 3rd round talents.  The Giants will be able to get a tight end in round 3.

Previous Pick Nick Jean Baptiste Defensive Tackle Baylor Senior Redshirt

Other Options None

Round 3

65. Indianapolis Colts 2-14 Dwayne Allen Tight End Clemson Junior Redshirt Andrew Luck had multiple tight ends to throw to at Stanford.  Luck would have even more success with Dallas Clark and Dwayne Allen the top tight end in the 2012 NFL Draft as his two tight ends.

Previous Pick Brian Quick Wide Receiver Appalachin State Senior Redshirt

 66. St. Louis Rams 2-14 Terrell Manning Right Outside Linebacker North Carolina State Junior Redshirt Terrell Manning is extremely underrated.  North Carolina state produces good linebackers.  Manning was not that consistent on the weak side.  Manning can provide explosive plays

Previous Pick Chris Polk Running Back Washington Junior Redshirt

67. Minnesota Vikings 3-13 Josh Norman Cornerback Coastal Carolina Senior Norman has the size to be a #1 field cornerback at 6 foot 3 215 pounds.  Norman dominated the East West Shrine game.  Norman makes a lot of sense in round 3.

68. Cleveland Browns 4-12 Chase Minnifield Cornerback Virginia Senior Redshirt Chase Minnifield is the son of former Browns cornerback Frank Minnifield.  Adding Minnifield as a #2 boundary corner to play next to Joe Haden gives the Cleveland Browns a secondary that is impossible to throw on.  The Browns secondary is already nearly impossible to throw on.

Previous Pick Rueben Randle Wide Receiver LSU Junior

69. Tampa Bay Buccaneers 4-12 Alfonzo Dennard Cornerback Nebraska Senior Tampa Bay loves Alfonzo Dennard.  Tampa Bay will take Dennard without thinking twice about it if he slips to round 3.

Previous Pick Alfonzo Dennard Cornerback Nebraska Senior

70. St. Louis Rams Washington Redskins 5-11 Audie Cole Left Outside Linebacker North Carolina State Senior Redshirt Audie Cole would give the Rams another starter at outside linebacker.  The Rams need a left outside linebacker.  Audie Cole addresses a need for the Rams.

Previous Pick Senio Kelemete Right Tackle Washington Senior

71. Jacksonville Jaguars 5-11 Cory Harkey Tight End UCLA Cory Harkey is an all pro blocking tight end.  Harkey dominated the catching drills at the combine.

Marcedes Lewis only had one season where he truly dominated.  Lewis attended UCLA at tight end.  Getting a #2 tight end to pair up with next Lewis to give him competition.

Marcedes Lewis had 700 receiving yards and 10 receiving touchdowns in 2010.  Did you know that was Lewis’s contract year.  Lewis got a 5 year extension back in August so bringing in a tight end to compete with Lewis is necessary because tight end is a need.

Previous Pick Cordarro Law Right End Southern Mississippi Senior Redshirt

72. Buffalo Bills 6-10 Rueben Randle Wide Receiver LSU Junior Rueben Randle has the tools to be a flanker receiver.  Randle did not show flashes until this year.  Buffalo gets a steal with Randle here at #72 overall if Rueben Randle slides in Brandon LaFell type fashion.

Stevie Johnson will be the #1 flanker, David Nelson can be a secondary target.  Randle could start out in the slot and eventually become a #2 target overtaking David Nelson over time.

Maybe Rueben Randle could become the Bills #1 target if Stevie Johnson does not live up to the hype after his 5 year contract extension.

Previous Pick Travis Lewis Right Outside Linebacker Oklahoma Senior Redshirt

73. Miami Dolphins 6-10 Coby Fleener Tight End Stanford Senior Redshirt Miami will draft a tight end here if they cannot add Dallas Clark.  I think Fleener could be an option for the Dolphins to pursue in round 3.

Fleener’s stock dropped because he did not run a 40 time.  Orson Charles and Dwayne Allen ran poor

Previous Pick Ronnell Lewis Left Outside Linebacker Oklahoma Junior

74. Chicago Bears from Carolina Panthers 6-10 Orson Charles Tight End Georgia Junior The Chicago Bears need to add a #2 tight end for depth behind Matt Speath.  Orson Charles is a good #2 tight end.  The Bears need a #2 tight end to compete with Speath for the Bears starting job at tight end.

Orson Charles makes a lot of sense here.  Charles has a great release.  Charles left me

Previous Pick Shea McClellin Left End Boise State Senior Redshirt

75. New England Patriots from Kansas City Chiefs 7-9 Marvin McNutt Wide Receiver Iowa Senior Redshirt Marvin McNutt is a 6 foot 4 215 pound wide receiver from Iowa.  McNutt has crisp precise route running.  McNutt has the skill set to be secondary receiver.  McNutt could start out as a bench player and work his way up the lineup.

Belichick has sent scouts to Iowa games.  This means he could be looking at McNutt or Iowa corner Shaun Prater as potential Patriots.

Previous Pick Marvin Jones Wide Receiver California Senior Redshirt

76. Seattle Seahawks 7-9 Alameda Ta’amu Defensive Tackle Washington Senior Alameda Ta’amu is a 6 foot 3 337 pound defensive tackle for Washington.  Ta’amu can be used as a 4-3 defensive tackle or a 3-4 nose tackle.

Ta’amu can play the 0 technique, the 1 technique, the 2 technique, or the 3 technique.  Ta’amu makes a lot of sense for Seattle.

Previous Pick Terrell Manning Right Outside Linebacker North Carolina State Junior Redshirt

77. Philadelphia Eagles 8-8 Jayron Hosley Cornerback Virginia Tech Junior The Eagles take Jayron Hosley here.  The Eagles will need a nickel corner if Asante Samuel gets traded with Dominique Rodgers Cromartie playing boundary corner next to #1 field cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha.

Previous Pick Audie Cole Left Outside Linebacker North Carolina State Senior Redshirt

78. New York Jets 8-8 Bruce Irvin 3-4 Left Outside Linebacker West Virginia Senior Bruce Irvin dominated the 2012 NFL Combine.  Pairing Irvin up in a 3-4 defense at left outside linebacker next to Courtney Upshaw may help the Jets pass rush.

79. San Diego Chargers 8-8 DaJohn Harris Nose Tackle USC Senior Redshirt USC has 2 defensive tackles that can play 4-3 defensive tackle, 3-4 defensive end, or 3-4 nose tackle.  DaJohn Harris and Christian Tupou are those 2 players.  Harris is graded out higher.

Previous Pick Mike Martin Nose Tackle Michigan Senior

80. Chicago Bears 8-8 Cordarro Law Left End Southern Miss Senior Redshirt Julius Peppers and Isreal Idonije are both in their 30′s.  Corey Wooton is being groomed as the Bears 4-3 right end of the future.  The Bears need a 4-3 left end though.

Law can play in a defensive scheme as a 4-3 defensive end or a 3-4 outside linebacker.  Southern Miss pass rusher Cordarro Law can play on either side giving opposing quarterback pressure.

Law reminds me of James Harrison coming out of Kent State.

Previous Pick Coby Fleener Tight End Stanford Senior Redshirt

81. Arizona Cardinals 8-8 Tank Carder 3-4 Middle Linebacker TCU Senior Redshirt The Cardinals will make an upgrade over Stewart Bradley at 3-4 middle linebacker.  Paris Lenon is in his mid 30′s too which is another thing to consider long term.

The Cardinals already have a 3-4 middle linebacker from TCU with Daryl Washington.  The Cardinals may add another one with Tank Carder.

82. Dallas Cowboys 8-8 Christian Tupou Nose Tackle USC Senior Redshirt The Cowboys need nose tackle depth behind Jay Ratliff.  Tupou is the 2nd of the USC defensive tackles that can play 4-3 defensive tackle or anywhere on a 3-4 defensive line with his versatility.

Previous Pick Bernard Pierce Running Back Temple Junior

83. Tennessee Titans 9-7 Dwight “Bill” Bentley Cornerback Louisiana Lafayette Senior The Titans will need a nickel cornerback behind Jason McCourty and Alterraun Verner.  Bentley may help the Titans as a nickel corner in round 3.

Previous Pick Lavonte David Strong Safety Nebraska Senior

84. Cincinnati Bengals 9-7 Lavonte David Strong Safety Nebraska Senior The Bengals need a strong safety to start over Chris Crocker.  Robert Sands can start at free safety if Reggie Nelson and Gibril Wilson both leave.

An upgrade over Chris Crocker is needed though.  Lavonte David makes a lot of sense here.

Previous Pick Isaiah Pead Running Back Cincinnati Senior

85. Atlanta Falcons 10-6 Shea McClellin Right End Boise State Senior Jonathan Abraham moved to 4-3 left end on play at times this season.  Ray Edwards was playing 4-3 right end on certain plays and he’s a 4-3 left end.

McClellin can be used as a 4-3 defensive end or a 3-4 outside linebacker.  The Falcons can use McClellin on either side for their 4-3 defense.  Adding some youth at pass rusher with McClellin could really be essential.

Previous Pick Tyrone Crawford Left End Boise State Senior

86. Detroit Lions 10-6 Isaiah Pead Running Back Cincinnati Senior The Lions like taking the best player available.  2010 first round pick Jahvid Best and 2011 second round pick Mikel LeShoure have had durability issues.

Detroit takes Isaiah Pead the 2012 Senior Bowl MVP with this selection.  Pead had 2 straight seasons of 1,000 rushing yards for the Cincinnati Bearcats.  Pead weighs 5 foot 11 200 pounds.

Previous Pick Jonathan Massaquoi Left End Troy Sophomore Redshirt

87. Pittsburgh Steelers 12-4 Mike Martin Nose Tackle Michigan Senior I previously mocked Virginia Tech running back David Wilson to Pittsburgh in round 3 prior to the NFL Combine.

If Steelers fans watched the 2012 Sugar Bowl featuring Michigan and Virginia Tech you would remember how Michigan’s run defense dominated line of scrimmage battles against David Wilson.

The Michigan player responsible for this is Michigan Wolverines nose tackle Mike Martin.

Mike Martin is not a long term starter at nose tackle.  Martin could be a solid #2 nose tackle in the mold of Chris Hoke in Pittsburgh.  Casey Hampton turns 35 and is due for 8.1 million dollars.  I feel like Pittsburgh may need to make a play for Mike Martin just to save some cap space.

Previous Pick David Wilson Running Back Virginia Tech Junior

88. Denver Broncos 8-8 Marvin Jones Wide Receiver California Senior Marvin Jones can become an effective #2 receiver target.  Jones is a sleeper target.  Jones was the #1 flanker target on California’s preseason depth chart before getting surpassed by 2013 first round pick Keenan Allen.

I like Jones.  I think McNutt has a chance to be a sleeper pick.  McNutt could be slot receiver at first.  McNutt could step in for Eric Decker if injuries occur.

Previous Pick Doug Martin Running Back Boise State Senior Redshirt

89. Houston Texans 10-6 Josh Chapman Nose Tackle Alabama Senior Redshirt Josh Chapman seems like the nose tackle that the Houston Texans would take a huge liking to.  Houston usually targets slightly undersized nose tackles who play football in the Southern region.

90. New Orleans Saints 13-3 Jerel Worthy Defensive Tackle Michigan State Junior Redshirt The Saints add more defensive tackle depth with Jerel Worthy.  Worthy was one of my most overrated prospects heading into the preseason.  Mike Mayock thinks Worthy is underrated as a prospect.  That does not sway my original impression on Worthy.

Worthy did not live up to the hype of being a top 10 pick and struggled against other Big 10 offensive lineman.  Worthy may make something of himself in New Orleans.

91. Green Bay Packers 15-1 Jaye Howard 3-4 Right End Florida Senior Redshirt The Packers may find a short term replacement for Cullen Jenkins at 5 technique with a depth player for the 3-4 scheme with Jaye Howard.

92. Baltimore Ravens 12-4 Juron Criner Wide Receiver Arizona Senior Arizona quarterback Nick Foles had one favorite target at Arizona.  That target was Criner.  The Ravens take the best available 3rd round prospect to provide another target for Joe Flacco.

Torrey Smith will be a flanker target with Anquan Boldin as a #2 secondary target.  The Ravens will need a slot receiver.  Juron Criner could be that option.

Juron Criner is an excellent route runner with soft hands.  Criner is 6 foot 4 215 pounds.  Criner’s production declined in 2011.

The 6 foot 4 215 pound Juron Criner made a ridiculous catch coverage during day 2 of Tuesday’s Senior Bowl drills.

Criner had 75 receptions, 956 receiving yards, and 11 receiving touchdowns in 2011 as Nick Foles #1 target.  Criner had 82 receptions, 1,233 receiving yards, and 11 receiving touchdowns in 2010.

Criner played a very key role with Foles during the 2010 and 2011 seasons.  Criner is a receiver with potential of a #4 target.  The Ravens will hope to mold him into a slot receiver.

Previous Pick Billy Winn 3-4 Left End Boise State Senior Redshirt

93. San Francisco 49ers 13-3 Chris Givens Wide Receiver Wake Forest Junior Redshirt San Francisco gets Chris Givens as a slot receiver.  Givens was impressive enough at the 2012 NFL Combine to warrant a 3rd round pick.

Previous Pick Josh Robinson Cornerback Central Florida Junior

94. New England Patriots 13-3 Jonathan Massaquoi Left End Troy Sophomore Redshirt Massaquoi can play 4-3 left end or 3-4 left outside linebacker.  New England should sign free agent Mario Williams.  That would open up left end as the Patriots only need.

Previous Pick Juron Criner Wide Receiver Arizona Senior

95. New York Giants 9-7 Michael Egnew Tight End Missouri Senior Michael Egnew is graded out as my 5th best tight end behind tight end prospects Dwayne Allen, Cory Harkin, Coby Fleener, and Orson Charles.

Egnew makes sense as a depth player for the Combine.  I had Egnew listed lower.  I moved him up to my #5 tight end after his performance at the 2012 NFL Combine.

Jeff Shull posted a 7 round mock for the players the Giants need to take in rounds 1-7.

http://www.rantsports.com/new-york-giants/2012/02/28/2012-nfl-mock-draft-new-york-giants-7-rounds-post-combine-edition/#slide:trade-alert-round-1-david-decastro-og-stanford

Round 4

96. St. Louis Rams 2-14 Bobby Wagner Left Outside Linebacker Utah State Senior The Rams will need 2 right outside linebackers and 2 left outside linebackers to fill out the depth chart.  The Rams get the best available left outside linebacker with Bobby Wagner here.

97. Indianapolis Colts 2-14 Chris Owusu Wide Receiver Stanford Senior Chris Owusu made me believe he could be a top 100 pick with his ability at the 2012 NFL Combine.  The Colts may take Owusu as a #2 option for Andrew Luck to throw to in round 4.

Previous Pick Jarius Wright Wide Receiver Arkansas Senior

98. Minnesota Vikings 3-13 Robert Turbin Running Back Utah Junior Redshirt The Vikings add Robert Turbin as a running back option for depth.  Turbin’s ability would help to rotate carries with Toby Gerhart in case Peterson is not ready to start in week 1.

Previous Pick David Paulson Tight End Oregon Senior Redshirt

99. Philadelphia Eagles from Tampa Bay Buccaneers 4-12 Travis Lewis Right Outside Linebacker Oklahoma Senior Redshirt The Eagles add Travis Lewis as a backup right outside linebacker with this pick.

Previous Pick Leonard Johnson Cornerback Iowa State Senior

100. Cleveland Browns 4-12 Ronnell Lewis Left Outside Linebacker Oklahoma Junior The Browns have Scott Fujita, D Qwell Jackson, and Chris GoCong as starting linebackers.  Depth is needed though.  Ronnell Lewis is the best player available.

Previous Pick LaMichael James Running Back Oregon Junior Redshirt

101. Jacksonville Jaguars 5-11 LaMichael James Running Back Oregon Junior Redshirt Maurice Jones Drew had 343 carries for 1,606 rushing yards and 8 rushing touchdowns.

LaMichael James could be used as a complimentary back behind Maurice Jones Drew.  Deji Karim is not a #2 back.  Karim failed to rush for a single rushing touchdown on 63 carries racking up only 130 rushing yards on those 63 carries.

LaMichael James may not be a future starter.  He can certainly top Karim’s abysmal stats and potentially take carries of of Karim.

James has had 230 carries, 1,500+ rushing touchdowns, 14+ rushing touchdowns, and 17 receptions in each of his 3 seasons at Oregon.  James weighs 5 foot 9 185 pounds and struggled against elite run defenses like Auburn or LSU.

LaMichael James got off to a poor 2011 start for Oregon.  James finished the nation 2nd in rushing yards after finishing 3rd in Heisman votes to Andrew Luck and Cam Newton in 2010.

Previous Pick Cameron Chism Cornerback Maryland Senior

102. Washington Redskins 5-11 James Michael Johnson 3-4 Middle Linebacker Nevada Senior Redshirt James Michael Johnson is 6 foot 2 240 pounds.  James Michael Johnson can play in a 4-3 or a 3-4 scheme at middle linebacker.

The Redskins take the final 3rd round talent that can make a case for being a top 100 pick with James Michael Johnson.  Now teams start using their late round picks to address needs.

Previous Pick Keenan Robinson 3-4 Middle Linebacker Texas Senior Redshirt

103. Miami Dolphins 6-10 Tyrone Crawford Left End Boise State Senior The Dolphins need a 4-3 left end to compliment Cameron Wake.  Run stuffer Tyrone Crawford could start for now.

Previous Pick LaDarius Green Tight End Louisiana Lafayette Senior

104. Carolina Panthers 6-10 Gerrell Robinson Wide Receiver Arizona State Senior Gerrell Robinson was a flanker target for Brock Osweiler at Arizona State.

I moved both Cameron Chism and D’Anton Lynn down on my draft board.  Carolina has to choose between a boundary cornerback and a secondary wide receiver playing boundary wide receiver.

Gerrell Robinson is 6 foot 3 223 pounds.  Robinson had 77 catches, 1,397 receiving yards, and 7 receiving touchdowns at Arizona State.  Robinson played a huge role in elevating Osweiler’s draft stock in 2011.

Previous Pick D’Anton Lynn Cornerback Penn State Senior

105. Buffalo Bills 6-10 David Paulson Tight End Oregon Senior Redshirt Buffalo needs a tight end.  David Paulson is my top graded tight end.  I was impressed with Paulson’s tape at Oregon.

Previous Pick Joe Adams Wide Receiver Arkansas Senior

106. Seattle Seahawks 7-9 Omar Bolden Cornerback Arizona State Senior Redshirt Seattle takes the top cornerback on my draft board with Omar Bolden.  Adding Bolden addresses a critical need in round 2.

Previous Pick DaJohn harris Defensive Tackle USC Senior Redshirt

107. Kansas City Chiefs 7-9 Vontaze Burfict 3-4 Middle Linebacker Arizona State Junior Vontaze Burfict slides to this spot due to a poor performance at the 2012 NFL Combine.  Burfict would provide good value at this spot.

Previous Pick Jeff Adams Left Tackle Columbia Senior

108. New York Jets 8-8 Bobbie Massie Right Tackle Ole Miss Junior The Jets really need an answer at right tackle.  Neither Wayne Hunter or Vladimir Ducasse. Former Jets right tackle Damien Woody can deny it all he wants, but the Jets offensive line is a doormat without him at right tackle.

109. Washington Redskins from Oakland Raiders 8-8 Winston Guy Jr. Strong Safety Kentucky Senior Washington could add a strong safety here.  There is one safety in this draft who blitzes in similar fashion to Troy Polamalu.  That is Kentucky safety Winston Guy Jr.

Laron Landry has an expiring deal.  Landry has only played 17 games dating back to 2010.  Landry could miss more time.  The 2000′s decade was very friendly to Landry.  Then the 2010′s occurred and that’s when the injury bug struck Laron Landry.

Kentucky strong safety Winston Guy Jr. reminds me a lot of Bob Sanders with less size and better durability.  Laron Landry has only played 17 games over two seasons at strong safety.  Landry has an expiring deal.  Even if Landry is retained for coverage situations, having a Bob Sanders/Troy Polamalu like blitzer in Winston Guy Jr. for depth would only help the Washington Redskins.

110. San Diego Chargers 8-8 Johnnie Troutman Left Guard Penn State Senior San Diego Chargers left guard Kris Dielman may retire.  Penn State left guard Johnnie Troutman may be looked at as an immediate upgrade at starting left guard.

Previous Pick Jerry Franklin 3-4 Right Outside Linebacker Arkansas Senior Redshirt

111. Chicago Bears 8-8 Michael Brewster Center Ohio State Senior The Chicago Bears need a center so they can move Roberto Garza back to right guard.  Brewster is the best center available at this point.

Adding Brewster solidifies everywhere on Chicago’s offensive line except left guard.

112. Arizona Cardinals 8-8 Jeff Allen Left Tackle Illinois Senior Jeff Allen can pass block and run block.  Allen dominated the Combine and the Senior Bowl.  Arizona could get great value with a left tackle of Allen’s ability in round 4.

Previous Pick Jerrell Harris 3-4 Left Outside Linebacker Alabama Senior

113. Dallas Cowboys 8-8 Jerrell Harris 3-4 Left Outside Linebacker Alabama Senior Harris is great with run stuffing and zone coverage.  Harris is awful at pass rushing.  Harris can provide some depth behind Anthony Spencer and learn how to pass rush by watching Spencer.

Previous Pick Bruce Irvin 3-4 Left Outside Linebacker West Virginia Senior

114. Philadelphia Eagles 8-8 AJ Jenkins Wide Receiver Illinois Senior AJ Jenkins can be a #5 receiver for this season.  Jenkins can sit behind Jeremy Maclin as a flanker receiver, DeSean Jackson as a secondary receiver, Riley Cooper as a slot receiver, and Jason Avant as a #4 receiver.

Jenkins would become a bench player if the Eagles dealt DeSean Jackson.

Previous Pick Russell Wilson Quarterback Wisconsin Senior Redshirt

115. Tennessee Titans 9-7 Jermaine Kearse Wide Receiver Washington Senior Jermaine Kearse is a #5 receiver target.  The Titans have Kenny Britt, Nate Washington, Damian Williams, and Lavelle Hawkins on the depth chart.  A #5 target would not hurt.

Kearse was a 6 foot 2 208 pound wide receiver target at Washington.  Kearse had his two best seasons in 2009 and in 2010 as a product of Jake Locker.  The Titans drafted Jake Locker in the first round of the 2011 NFL Draft.

Locker may start as a second year pro.  Jake Locker has to beat out Matt Hasselbeck before the job is his though.

Previous Pick Johnnie Troutman Left Guard Penn State Senior

116. Cincinnati Bengals 9-7 Amini Silatalu Left Guard Midwestern State Senior Redshirt Silatalu is the left tackle for Midwestern State.  Silatalu is 6 foot 3 320 pounds.  His short height and arm length may kick him inside on the interior to left guard though.

Another 6 foot 3 320 pound small school left tackle that should have moved inside to left guard was Willie Colon.

Silatalu does not have the best pass blocking footwork which limits his left tackle ability which will also move him to left guard.  Silatalu has the nimble feet you look for when it comes to looking for a blue collar run blocking mauler which is what Cincinnati looks for when evaluating their offensive lineman.

Willie Colon had very similar strengths and weaknesses for a small school day 3 pick on the offensive line.  If Cincinnati realizes that he’s a left guard instead of an offensive tackle than the Bengals will be handsomely rewarded in April’s draft.

The Cincinnati Bengals were long overdue for a guard in this mock draft.  Cincinnati finally gets the last sure fire starter at left guard in round 4.

Previous Pick Emmanuel Acho Left Outside Linebacker Texas Senior

117. Detroit Lions 10-6 Keenan Robinson Right Outside Linebacker Texas Senior Redshirt Detroit should resign Tulloch.  That means the Lions will need to move DeAndre Levy to left outside linebacker enabling the Lions to get a blue chip starter with Keenan Robinson at this spot.

Previous Pick Robert Turbin Running Back Utah State Junior Redshirt

118. Cleveland Browns from Atlanta Falcons 10-6 Brandon Lindsey Right End Pittsburgh Senior Redshirt Lindsey reunites with Jabaal Sheard in Cleveland.  Lindsey generated 10 sacks as a 4-3 right end at Pittsburgh when stepping in for an injured Greg Romeus.

Lindsey and Sheard go from playing college ball at Heinz Field to pass rushers who invade Heinz Field by getting constant pressure on Roethlisberger.

119. Pittsburgh Steelers 12-4 Russell Wilson Quarterback Wisconsin Senior Redshirt Pittsburgh is losing Charlie Batch, Byron Leftwich, and Dennis Dixon to free agency.  Russell Wilson is a great backup to acquire in the middle rounds who could develop into a borderline starter.

Russell Wilson has a good arm that can fire deadly passes.  Wilson showcases great mental awareness.  Wilson can learn a new playbook at a very fast rate.

Wilson had 3 years of starting experience at North Carolina State prior to transferring to Wisconsin.  Wilson showed great promise at both colleges.

Wilson was the North Carolina State Wolfpack starter in 2008 after being redshirted.  As a freshman redshirt Wilson completed 150 of the teams 275 passing plays throwing for 1,995 passing yards, 17 passing touchdowns, and 1 interception as a freshman redshirt.  Wilson threw 249 straight passes as a freshman redshirt without an interception.

After sitting out a year to be redshirted, Wilson nearly throws 250 passes without a pick are you kidding me.  What Wilson did in 2008 is simply amazing.

Wilson had more responsibilities in 2009 as a sophomore redshirt.  Wilson eclipsed the 3,00o passing yard mark.  Wilson threw 31 touchdowns and 11 interceptions in 2010.  Wilson ranked 4th in the FBS in passing touchdowns as a sophomore redshirt.  Only 3 out of 120 FBS quarterbacks threw more passing touchdowns than Wilson in 2009.

Wilson had some ups and downs in 2010.  Wilson led the ACC in passing yards per game with nearly 275 passing yards per game as a junior redshirt.  Wilson eclipsed the 3,500 passing yard mark in 2010 despite a lower completion percentage and touchdown to interception ratio in 2009.

Wilson became one of four players to throw for 5,000 passing yards and rush for 1,000 rushing yards in their entire career.  Wilson got this milestone before transferring to Wisconsin.

In 2011, Wilson completed 72.8 percent of his passes at Wisconsin.  Wilson’s passes were 10.28 yards per attempt.  Wilson threw for 3,000 passing yards for the 3rd straight season.  Wilson threw 33 passing touchdowns and 4 interceptions for the Badgers.

Wilson got sacked a minimum of 25 times each year at NC State.  Wilson only got sacked 22 times at Wisconsin with a blue chip offensive line due to his playing style.

Wilson weighed in at 5 foot 11 200 pounds heading into the season.  Wilson put on 10 pounds though weighing in at 5 foot 11 210 pounds to end the season.

There is no question that Wilson would be the top graded senior ahead of Ryan Tannehill if he were 6 foot 2 or 6 foot 3.  That’s how good Russell Wilson is.  Wilson meets all the qualifications to be the backup for the Steelers.

Previous Pick Amini Silatalu Left Guard Midwestern State Senior Redshirt

120. Denver Broncos 8-8 DeQuan Menzie Cornerback Alabama Senior Denver needs to bring in a nickel cornerback that can develop into a boundary cornerback across from Champ Bailey.

Andre Goodman got torched in coverage during the wild card game against Pittsburgh.  Goodman’s age is beginning to catch up to him.  Menzie has potential to become a #2 boundary corner even though most list him as a nickel.

Menzie provides the right value at this point late in round 4.  Menzie can start at nickel behind Champ Bailey and Andre Goodman and develop into a #2 corner.

121. Houston Texans 10-6 Jerry Franklin 3-4 Right Linebacker Arkansas Senior Redshirt The Texans add a 3-4 right linebacker for depth at this spot.  Jerry Franklin can play 3-4 middle linebacker or 3-4 right outside linebacker.

Houston will need depth behind pass rushers Connor Barwin and Brooks Reid if Mario Williams becomes a free agent.

Previous Pick Dwight Jones Wide Receiver North Carolina Senior

122. New Orleans Saints 13-3 James Brown Right Tackle Troy Senior Charles Brown, a 2010 2nd round pick out of USC could not beat out the overpaid Zach Streif for a right tackle job.  Charles Brown played left tackle at USC.  Maybe Brown needs to move back to left tackle for depth.

Streif is signed through 2014, and he has no business starting.  Adding an upgrade at offensive tackle like James Brown to be the Saints new right tackle would really help New Orleans moving forward.

123. Green Bay Packers 15-1 Bernard Pierce Running Back Temple Junior Bernard Pierce did not impress me at the Combine.  Pierce could compete for a roster spot on Green Bay.

Ryan Grant is as good as gone.  James Starks is an injury prone rotational back that is mainly used to run up the middle like a power runner.  Alex Green is an injury prone 3rd round back.  Brandon Saine was one of my undrafted sleepers out of Ohio State.

I like Pierce’s odds to crack this Packers roster if I’m a betting man.  Either Green or Saine will end up getting bumped down from the practice squad to make room for Pierce.

Previous Pick David Molk Center Michigan Senior Redshirt

124. Buffalo Bills from Baltimore Ravens 12-4 Mitchell Schwartz Right Tackle California Senior Redshirt Mitchell Schwartz can play left tackle or right tackle.  The Bills will have Chris Hairston and Erik Pears as starting offensive tackles heading into 2012.

I feel like an upgrade over Pears could be used long term.  Pears did a great job filling in starting all 16 games.  I feel like his ability could be upgraded.  The Bills need to bring in some depth behind Pears.

Previous Pick Gerrell Robinson Wide Receiver Arizona State Senior

125. San Francisco 49ers 13-3 Eddie Whitley Free Safety Virginia Tech Senior The 49ers need to bring in a free safety for depth behind Dashon Goldson.  Whitley can be effective in zone coverage.  Whitley needs work with run stuffing and tackling.  Those two areas are specialties of Goldson’s.

126. New England Patriots 13-3 Nigel Bradham Left Outside Linebacker Florida State Senior Rob Ninkovich has an expiring contract.  The Patriots may decide they have to get a starting left outside linebacker.

Even if Ninkovich gets retained there is no question that New England could use a depth player at linebacker.

Nigel Bradham has the versatility to play anywhere at linebacker.  Bradham may be good enough to start at left outside linebacker.

Previous Pick MItchell Schwatz Right Tackle California Senior Redshirt

127. New York Giants Keith Tandy Cornerback West Virginia Senior Redshirt The Giants may need a nickel cornerback.  Corey Webster can be a field cornerback with Prince Amukamara being a boundary cornerback.  A nickel corner behind the two to replace Aaron Ross will be needed.  Keith Tandy could be a late round option.

Round 5

128. Indianapolis Colts 2-14 Nate Potter Left Guard Boise State Senior Redshirt The Colts may not resign Jeff Saturday.  Zeitler can play left guard, center, or right guard.  Nate Potter can be used as a backup right tackle and a starting right guard on the Colts offensive line.

Nate Potter may be the worst run blocker in the entire 2012 NFL Draft.  Potter’s pass blocking is just potentially better than Iowa left tackle Riley Reiff’s pass protection skills.

Potter played left tackle at Boise State.  Potter would likely move inside to guard due to previous struggles.  The Colts used a pass blocking scheme around Peyton Manning.  The Colts should opt to do the same with Andrew Luck.

Nate Potter can play either offensive tackle or guard spot.  Potter is a pass blocker so he may be better off at left guard.  Here is what the Colts offensive line looks like without Jeff Saturday

Nate Potter gives the Colts a starter at left guard.  Potter’s ability would help bolster Andrew Luck’s protection.

129. Denver Broncos from St.Louis Rams 2-14 Tony Bergstrom Right Tackle Utah Senior Denver needs a right tackle for depth behind Orlando Franklin in case he fatigues.  Tony Bergstorm provides nice value in round 5.

Previous Pick Christian Tupou Defensive Tackle USC Senior Redshirt

130. Minnesota Vikings 3-13 Jared Crick Defensive Tackle Senior Redshirt Jared Crick played next to Ndamukong Suh in a 4-3 scheme at Nebraska.  The Vikings could pair Crick next to Kevin Williams.

Previous Pick Tydreke Powell Defensive Tackle North Carolina

131. Cleveland Browns 4-12 Nick Jean Baptiste Defensive Tackle Baylor Senior Redshirt Nick Jean Baptiste would provide a good depth player at defensive tackle.  Ahtya Rubin and Phil Taylor are both 320 pound defensive tackles.

Most defensive tackles are 2 down players.  Depth needs to be added here.

Previous Pick Chris Galippo Right Outside Linebacker USC Senior Redshirt

132. Tampa Bay Buccaneers 4-12 Bradie Ewing Fullback Wisconsin Senior Bradie Ewing may be the best fullback I’ve seen since Mike Alstott.  Earnest Graham turns 32 years old.  Ewing is a great value pick.

Tampa Bay’s offensive line coach coached the running backs, fullbacks, tight ends, and offensive line at Wisconsin from 2006-2011.  Those areas are usually Wisconsin’s strengths.

Previous Pick Nigel Bradham Right Outside Linebacker Florida State Senior

133. Washington Redskins 5-11 Ryan Broyles Wide Receiver Oklahoma Senior Redshirt One player that I think Mike Shanahan will really take a liking to is Ryan Broyles.  I get the feeling that Shanahan came away impressed when watching his route running on film.

Previous Pick DeQuan Menzie Cornerback Alabama Senior

134. Jacksonville Jaguars 5-11 Jake Bequette Left End Arkansas Senior Redshirt The Jaguars may have their right end with Jeremy Mincey.  Aaron Kampman can start at left end if he recovers.  Depth behind Kampman will be needed.  Bequette is a great backup left end who could step in for Kampman in round 5.

Previous Pick Tony Bergstrom Right Tackle Utah Senior

135. Carolina Panthers 6-10 Marcus Forston Defensive Tackle Miami FL Junior Redshirt The Panthers add defensive tackle depth with Marcus Forston in round 5.  Simone Fua and Terrell McClain were 2011 3rd round picks.  Both rookies gained experience starting.  A depth player at defensive tackle is needed.

Forston has a chance to be a steal.  Forston has to stay healthy without getting injured though.

Previous Pick DeAngelo Peterson Tight End LSU Senior

136. Buffalo Bills 6-10 Ryan Lindley Quarterback San Diego State Senior Redshirt The Bills need a quarterback with the size to groom behind Ryan Fitzpatrick.  Lindley could develop into a borderline starter.  Lindley would be best served as a backup behind Ryan Fitzpatrick at this point.

137. Miami Dolphins 6-10 Micanor Regis Defensive Tackle Miami FL The Dolphins are switching from a 3-4 to a 4-3.  The Dolphins are losing 3 of their 4 defensive lineman who can play that 4-3 defensive tackle role to free agency.

Micanor Regis is a hometown prospect.  Regis provides good value as a 4th round prospect along with a depth player for Miami’s defensive line.

Previous Pick Keith Tandy Cornerback West Virginia Senior Redshirt

138. Kansas City Chiefs 7-9 Lucas Nix Right Tackle Pittsburgh Senior Some including myself had Lucas Nix losing the starting right guard job to Chris Jacobsen.  Not only did Nix win the starting job, he managed to work his way from potential backup right guard to starting left tackle on Pittsburgh’s offensive line all in less than a year.

Nix is a perfect fit for the Chiefs run blocking scheme blending in very well with Kansas City.

139. Seattle Seahawks 7-9 Chandler Jones Right End Syracuse Junior Redshirt Seattle takes a flyer on 4th round prospect Chandler Jones hoping they get a future pass rusher.

Previous Pick Ryan Steed Cornerback Furman Senior

140. Oakland Raiders 8-8 Ryan Miller Right Guard Colorado Senior Redshirt The Raiders now have the NFL’s lowest salary cap thanks to Pittsburgh clearing up cap space.  The Raiders only have one more pick after this in round 6.  The Raiders first pick comes at pick 140.  I mean 140.

The Raiders need a right guard to replace 35 year old free agent Cooper Carlisle.  Ryan Miller could be an option at this spot.  This is what Oakland’s 2012 offensive line looks like.

Left Tackle Jared Veldheer

Left Guard Bruce Campbell

Center Stephen Wisnewski

Right Guard Ryan Miller

Right Tackle Joseph Barksdale

Previous Pick Trumaine Johnson Cornerback Montana Senior

141. San Diego Chargers 8-8 Shaun Prater Cornerback Iowa Senior San Diego needs a dime cornerback that can work their way up the depth chart.  That is exactly what Prater provides.

Previous Pick Bradie Ewing Fullback Wisconsin Senior

142. Chicago Bears 8-8 Joe Suhey Fullback Penn State Senior Redshirt Matt Suhey got to block for Walter Payton in Chicago.  Now Matt’s son Joe, gets to do the same for Matt Forte.

143. Arizona Cardinals 8-8 Jeff Fuller Wide Receiver Texas A&M Senior The Cardinals take a day 3 flyer on Jeff Fuller.  I thought he had more potential than A&M quarterback Ryan Tannehill.  Coaches raved about Tannehill and knocked Fuller’s work ethic due to the lack of production.

Fuller is 6 foot 4 215 pounds.  Fuller may learn how to have a proper work ethic under Fitzgerald.  Arizona has nothing to lose by bringing in Fuller a 4th round talent in as a 5th round flyer.

Previous Pick AJ Jenkins Wide Receiver Illinois Senior

144. Dallas Cowboys 8-8 Leonard Johnson Cornerback Iowa State Senior Dallas adds Leonard Johnson as a cornerback for depth in round 5.  Johnson managed to contain Justin Blackmon.  Johnson provides great sleeper value in round 5.

Previous Pick Ryan Miller Right Guard Colorado Senior Redshirt

145. Philadelphia Eagles 8-8 T.Y. Hilton Wide Receiver Florida International Senior Teams usually have 3 quarterbacks on their depth chart and 6 receivers on their depth chart.  The Eagles use another pick on a depth receiver in round 5 on a 4th round talent.

Previous Pick Jermaine Kearse Wide Reciever Washington Senior

146. New York Jets 8-8 LaDarius Green Tight End Louisiana Lafayette Senior Adding a blocking tight end who can stretch the field like LaDarius Green to compliment Dustin Keller would really help the Jets offense.  Green is considered to be a 4th round talent.

Previous Pick Ryan Broyles Wide Receiver Oklahoma Senior Redshirt

147. Tennessee Titans 9-7 David Molk Center Michigan Senior Redshirt The Titans add David Molk as a late round center to their roster.  Molk would have a chance to win the Titans starting job even though he’s more of a backup at this point.

Previous Pick Charles Brown Cornerback North Carolina Senior

148. Cincinnati Bengals 9-7 Jordan White Wide Receiver Western Michigan Senior Redshirt The Bengals need a #4 receiver behind AJ Green, Jordan Shipley, and Ryan Whalen.  Jordan White is drawing similar comparisons to former Western Michigan wide receiver Greg Jennings.  Jennings is now an all pro on the Packers.

Jordan White led the FBS in receptions and receiving yards.  White recorded 140 receptions and 1,911 receiving yards for the Western Michigan Broncos in 2011.  Adding White as a depth receiver that could work his way up the depth chart would be a smart move.

White set the schools single game record for receiving yards with 265 receiving yards in a single game.  White is 6 foot 215 and has good size for a wide receiver.  There are some durability concerns about White since he got injured during the bowl game.  Even with these medical questions you cannot question White’s toughness and commitment to the game.

Jordan White caught 17 receiving touchdowns in 2011.  Only Oklahoma State’s Justin Blackmon and Houston Cougars receiver Patrick Edwards caught more touchdowons in 2011.

Previous Pick George Iloka Free Safety Boise State Senior

149. Atlanta Falcons 10-6 Tim Benford Wide Receiver Tennessee Tech Senior Atlanta could part ways with Harry Douglass as their slot receiver signing Hines Ward.  Atlanta will need to bring in a late round slot receiver to groom when Hines retires.

Benford has the exact route running skill set that Hines had coming out of Georgia.  If Benford can learn to block like Hines he will be the steal of this draft because Benford’s biggest weaknesses is his inability to be physical when facing press coverage.

Previous Pick Chandler Jones Right End Syracuse Junior Redshirt

150. Detroit Lions 10-6 BJ Coleman Quarterback Tennessee Chattanooga Senior Redshirt Detroit needs to add a backup to Stafford with Shaun Hill and Drew Stanton having expiring deals.  BJ Coleman is a raw backup with elite physical tools.  The Lions could start him out at 3rd string and watch Coleman work his way up the depth chart.

Matthew Stafford was a sure fire #1 overall pick coming out of college in 2009.  Stafford did not have much besides blue chip wide receiver Calvin Johnson as a rookie because tight end Brandon Pettigrew was still developing.  Stafford also had durability questions his first two years due to injuries.  Stafford answered those concerns with a monster campaign in 2011.

The Lions have a great coaching staff on offense similar to the one Green Bay had on offense when they won Super Bowl 45.  Green Bay had offensive minded head coach Mike McCarthy, offensive coordinator Joe Philbin, and quarterback  coach Tom Clements.

Detroit’s offensive staff consists of Scott Linehan at offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach, Shawn Jefferson at wide receivers coach, and Todd Downing as quarterbacks assistant.

The Packers had stability with their coaching staff like the Patriots did when Cassel was the backup to Tom Brady.  Detroit is beginning to establish similar stability with their coaching staff.  The Lions could take BJ Coleman and turn him into a Kevin Kolb or Matt Flynn type of developmental backup that commands high value as a starter in free agency.

Detroit needs a backup in case Stafford does get injured again.  Coleman fits the bill here.

Previous Pick Lucas Nix Right Tackle Pittsburgh Senior Redshirt

151. Pittsburgh Steelers 12-4 Jarius Wright Wide Receiver Arkansas Senior Joe Adams is my favorite Arkansas receiver when watching the tape.  Wright posted better stats in 2011 though.  Arkansas wide receivers like Joe Adams, Jarius Wright, and Greg Childs were really beneficial to last years 2011 quarterback Ryan Mallett and 2013 first round prospect Tyler Wilson.

Wright had 66 receptions, 1,117 receiving yards, and 12 receiving touchdowns.  Pittsburgh may take a flyer on Wright hoping its the right selection here.  Wright has been very productive on tape and plays similar to Mike Wallace in terms of size.  Mike Wallace played for Ole Miss which is one of Arkansas’s rival schools.  The Jarius Wright/Mike Wallace comparison is very common around the drafting community.

Wright’s production was better than Joe Adams.  Wright is a 4th round talent so Pittsburgh would be getting great value in round 5.  Pittsburgh needs a receiver.

Wright plays with a simliar game as a deep target like Mike Wallace.  Emmanuel Sanders would be the secondary target with Wright moving to slot receiver.

Previous Pick Quintin Saulsberry Right Guard Mississippi State Senior

152. Denver Broncos 8-8 Derek Wolfe Defensive Tackle Senior Redshirt Denver can add Derek Wolfe as a rotational defensive tackle behind Broderick Bunkley with this pick.

Previous Pick Carmen Messina Middle Linebacker New Mexico Senior Redshirt

153. Houston Texans 8-8 Korey Williams 3-4 Middle Linebacker Southern Miss Senior Redshirt The Texans use this pick on a 3-4 middle linebacker for depth.  Williams is my final player graded out as a 4th round prospect.

Previous Pick Sean Cattouse Strong Safety California Senior Redshirt

154. New Orleans Saints 13-3 Quintin Saulsberry Center Mississippi State Senior Redshirt Saulsberry can play anywhere on the interior offensive line.  New Orleans will need upgrades at center and left guard.  Saulsberry makes a lot of sense here.

Previous Pick Will Blackwell LSU Senior Redshirt

155. Green Bay Packers 15-1 DeAngelo Peterson Tight End LSU Senior Jermichael Finley will be Green Bay’s #1 tight end.  DJ Williams was considered a 2011 sleeper.  Williams sat out his rookie season.  A #3 tight end could be needed with the status of Andrew Quarless being very uncertain.

Previous Pick Omar Bolden Cornerback Arizona State Senior Redshirt

156. Baltimore Ravens 12-4 Chris Galippo 3-4 Middle Linebacker USC Senior Redshirt The Ravens can get a 3-4 middle linebacker to groom for the future.  Galippo provides great versatility and can play anywhere at linebacker in a 4-3.

Previous Pick Jeff Fuller Wide Receiver Texas A&M Senior

157. San Francisco 49ers 13-3 Kheeston Randle 3-4 Left End Texas Senior Kheeston Randle has the ability to play 4-3 defensive tackle, 3-4 defensive end, or 3-4 nose tackle.  Randle is better at using finesse moves than power moves to get to the quarterback when pressuring someone.

Finding a late round 3-4 left end who could play next to Justin Smith would be great for the 49ers long term.

Previous Pick Chris Owusu Wide Receiver Stanford Senior

158. Cincinnati Bengals from New England Patriots Emmanuel Acho Left Outside Linebacker The Bengals need a left outside linebacker.  Emmanuel Acho provides great value in round 5.  The Bengals need a SAM linebacker that can anchor the strong side.

Previous Pick Stephen Hill Wide Receiver Georgia Tech Junior

159. New York Giants Matt Reynolds Right Tackle BYU Senior RedshirtKareem McKenzie is going to be a free agent at right tackle.  James Brewer suffered leg injuries as a rookie.  A competition between Matt Reynolds and James Brewer with the loser being a backup right tackle for depth may not hurt the New York Giants.

Round 6

160. St. Louis Rams 2-14 Will Blackwell Left Guard LSU Senior Redshirt Adding Will Blackwell as a starting left guard is huge.  Blackwell is a 5th round talent.  The Rams have faith in their current offensive tackles.  Adding a left guard in the late rounds will be paramount if the Rams want to stick with Rodger Saffold and Jason Smith at offensive tackle.  This is what the Rams offensive line looks like now if the Rams keep Saffold and Smith.

Left Tackle Rodger Saffold

Left Guard WIll Blackwell

Center Jason Brown

Right Guard Harvey Dahl

Right Tackle Jason Smith

Previous Pick Chris Givens Wide Receiver Wake Forest Junior Redshirt

161. Indianapolis Colts 2-14 Trevor Guyton 3-4 Right End California Senior The Colts will need 3-4 defensive lineman.  Trevor Guyton makes too much sense for the Colts.  Guyton is a 5th round talent that could play 3-4 right end.

Previous Pick Jared Crick 3-4 Right End Nebraska Senior Redshirt

162. Minnesota Vikings 3-13 Dwight Jones Wide Receiver North Carolina Senior Dwight Jones could become a #2 secondary target if Percy Harvin gets injured.  Dwight Jones could play the slot for the Vikings as a rookie if he cleans up his character issues.

Dwight Jones is a 6 foot 4 225 pound wide receiver.  Jones has elite physical ability for a wide receiver.  Jones has the hands.  How fast can Jones learn a playbook?  That will be key.  Minnesota will not be gambling much on a late round pick.

Previous Pick T.Y. Hilton Wide Receiver Florida International Senior

163. Tampa Bay Buccaneers 4-12 Bobby Rainey Running Back Western Kentucky Senior Redshirt Only LSU and Arkansas State kept Bobby Rainey from gaining 100 rushing yards in 2011.  Both LSU and Arkansas State ranked in the top 15 in run defense in the FBS.  Rainey is worth a late round flyer at this point.

I love Rainey as a sleeper.  I could see him coming into to Tampa Bay and taking LeGarrette Blount’s job unless Blount cleans up his work ethic in 2012.  Besides the big run against the Packers, Blount really did not offer Tampa Bay much.

Rainey ranked in the top 5 in FBS in rushing yards.  Rainey was 5th in rushing yards with 1,695 rushing yards.

164. Cleveland Browns 4-12 Chris Marve Middle Linebacker Vanderbilt Senior Redshirt Cleveland needs a middle linebacker for depth.  Chris Marve was a 4 year starter at middle linebacker for the Vanderbilt Commodores.

Cleveland may need depth at middle linebacker in case D Qwell Jackson gets injured.

165. Jacksonville Jaguars 5-11 Trumaine Johnson Cornerback Montana Senior Something tells me the Jaguars look past any character concerns that Trumaine Johnson may display.  Johnson makes a lot of sense if the Jaguars wait this long to address defense.

Previous Pick Janzen Jackson Free Safety McNesse State Junior

166. New Orleans Saints from Washington Redskins 5-11 Brandon Brooks Left Guard Miami Ohio Senior Redshirt Carl Nicks will be leaving at left guard.  Brandon Brooks can play offensive tackle or guard anywhere on the offensive line.

Brooks did not receive an NFL Combine invite.  Brandon Brooks did dominate his pro day.

Previous Pick Jordan White Wide Receiver Western Michigan Senior Redshirt

167. Buffalo Bills 6-10 Danny Trevathan Right Outside Linebacker Kentucky Senior The Buffalo Bills are contempt with their starters at linebacker.  Buffalo is switching to a 4-3.  Nick Barnett played in a 3-4 in Green Bay and in Buffalo.  Kirk Morrison could be an effective veteran at 4-3 right outside linebacker.  Chris Kelsey was a 3-4 left outside linebacker moving to 4-3 left outside linebacker.

Danny Trevathan can develop into a sleeper at 4-3 right outside linebacker.  Buffalo spends a late round pick on Trevathan.

Previous Pick Micah Pellerin Cornerback Hampton Senior Redshirt

168. Miami Dolphins 6-10 Frank Alexander Right End Oklahoma Senior The Dolphins need to find a 4-3 right end.  Miami moved Wake and lined him up against right tackles.

Previous Pick Marcus Forston Defensive Tackle Miami FL Junior Redshirt

169. Carolina Panthers 6-10 Charles Brown Cornerback North Carolina Senior Charles Brown could provide an upgrade over the 5 foot 9 Captain Munnerlyn at boundary corner.  Brown would have a good shot of becoming Carolina’s #2 corner on the depth chart.

Charles Brown’s one on one practice sessions against Dwight Jones have been extremely instrumental in preparing Brown for the NFL.

Previous Pick Tim Benford Wide Receiver Tennessee Tech Senior

170. Seattle Seahawks 7-9 Nathan Stupar Left Outside Linebacker Penn State Senior Redshirt The Seahawks will need a left outside linebacker if Leroy Hill leaves.  Nathan Stupar provides good value in round 6.

Previous Pick Micanor Regis Defensive Tackle Miami FL Senior

171. Kansas City Chiefs 7-9 Jarrett Boykin Wide Receiver Virginia Tech Senior The Chiefs need a #4 receiver for depth.  Adding Jarrett Boykin in the late rounds on day 3 could really help the Chiefs.  Boykin has the ability to be a #4 target for depth.

The Chiefs have Dwayne Bowe, Stevie Breaston, and Jonathan Baldwin as their top 3 targets.  The Chiefs could add Boykin as a #4 target.

Previous Pick Justin Bethel Free Safety Presbyterian Senior

172. San Diego Chargers 8-8 Danny Coale Wide Receiver Virginia Tech Senior Sani Diego may decide to add another receiver for depth at some point.  Danny Coale is one of my 5th round prospects.  Some like Coale better than his Virginia Tech teammate Jarrett Boykin.

Previous Pick Donnie Fletcher Cornerback Boston College Senior

173. Chicago Bears 8-8 Eric Page Wide Receiver Toledo Junior The only receiver left that I got graded out as 5th round talent is Eric Page.  Page may be a steal.

Page has had 3 seasons with 1,100 receiving yards and a minimum of 7 receiving touchdowns at Toledo.  In 2011, Page recorded 125 receptions, 1,182 receiving yards, and 10 receiving touchdowns.

Page is 5 foot 10 180 pounds.  The Bears have tons of receivers for depth.  Chicago does need a #1 target.  Page may not have the size.  If Page plays have as good as he did in 2011 with Toledo, Bears fans will gladly welcome Eric Page to the Chicago community.

Previous Pick Marquis Maze Wide Receiver Alabama Senior

174. Arizona Cardinals 8-8 Daniel “Boom” Herron Running Back Ohio State Senior Redshirt Arizona will bring in Herron as a #3 back in case Chris “Beanie” Wells or Ryan Williams fails to play a 16 game season.

Previous Pick Jaymes Brooks Right Guard Virginia Tech Senior Redshirt

175. Dallas Cowboys 8-8 Ronnie Hillman Running Back San Diego State Sophomore Redshirt The Dallas Cowboys clearly have bigger needs than this.  Dallas sometimes prefers the best available player.  Jerry Jones is like a fantasy football owner drafting based on being a prisoner of the moment.

DeMarco Murray and Felix Jones are your 1 2 punch in Dallas.  Murray went down with injuries late in the year.  Ronnie Hillman broke Marshall Faulk’s records at San Diego State.

Also, before Murray went to San Diego State he worked as a waiter at Applebees.  E 60 will rave about this if Hillman becomes an all pro in Dallas.

Previous Pick Kheeston Randall 3-4 Right End Texas Senior

176. Philadelphia Eagles 8-8 Jordan Jefferson Quarterback LSU Senior Redshirt Trent Edwards and Mike Kafka are both incapable of being Michael Vick’s backup.  Jefferson has a chance to be that backup in Philadelphia.  Jefferson has the rare blend of physical tools that coaches look for in a quarterback.

Jefferson needs to improve the mental aspects of his game plus his work ethic if he hopes to crack the Jets roster.

Previous Pick Mike Ryan Left Tackle Connecticut Senior Redshirt

177. New York Jets 8-8 Case Keenum Quarterback Houston Senior Redshirt The Jets will probably do something like keep Mark Sanchez as the starter, bring Jason Campbell in as the backup, and get a 3rd stringer to compete with Greg McElroy for the final quarterback roster spot.

McElroy called the team selfish after missing the playoffs.  Case Keenum was the quarterback of the 12-0 Houston Cougars that were one game away from the bowl game.

Rex Ryan probably disliked how McElroy handled the situation plus Ryan loves competition.  That’s why Case Keenum goes to the New York Jets in the 6th round.

Previous Pick Brad Smelley Tight End Alabama Senior

178. Oakland Raiders 8-8 Micah Pellerin Cornerback Hampton Senior Redshirt Micah Pellerin is a #2 boundary corner.  Oakland could use a #2 corner to boost their depth chart.

Previous Pick Frank Alexander 3-4 Right Outside Linebacker Oklahoma Senior

179. Tennessee Titans 9-7 Sean Cattouse Strong Safety California Senior Redshirt Sean Cattouse provides the Titans with a short term option at strong safety.  Cattouse could be an effective backup at strong safety.

Previous Pick Kyle Wilber Right Outside Linebacker Wake Forest Senior Redshirt

180. Cincinnati Bengals 9-7 Jack Crawford Right End Penn State Senior Jack Crawford is a 5th round talent.  Crawford has the ability to develop into a double digit sack artist.  Crawford has some durability issues and he needs some coaching at the next level.

Previous Pick Cliff Harris Cornerback Oregon Junior

181. Atlanta Falcons 10-6 Matt McCants Left Tackle UAB Senior Redshirt Sam Baker is being discussed as an option for the Falcons starting right guard job.  Matt McCants has left tackle ability.

The Falcons move up from 182 to 181 after the Lions lost their 6th round pick for tampering charges with the league.

Matt McCants is a left tackle for UAB.  Heading into the season, McCants appeared too average.  McCants had the elite pass blocking ability and pass blocking footwork of a left tackle weighing 6 foot 6 295 pounds.

McCants weight 309 pounds now.  McCants dominated his senior bowl and pro day workouts.  I had McCants graded out as a 6th round prospect for most of the season.  McCants has caught my attention as of late.  I probably will move McCants up to the 3rd round.

Previous Pick Rhett Ellison Tight End USC Senior

182. Pittsburgh Steelers 12-4 Jeff Adams Left Tackle Columbia Senior Jeff Adams is a blue chip left tackle.  Imagine Browns left tackle Joe Thomas as an Ivy League Student.  That’s the first thought that pops to mind when I see Jeff Adams play.

Adams was a backup left tackle in 2008 as a true freshman.  In 2009 Adams was the only sophomore offensive lineman to receive first team or second team All Ivy League honors.

As a junior Jeff Adams illustrated that he has the tools to be a blue chip run blocker.  Adams continued that consistency as a senior with run blocking despite anchoring a pedestrian run blocking unit that finished 7th out of 8 Ivy League Schools in generating rushing yards.

As a senior the pass blocking of Jeff Adams really improved.  Adams was the only left tackle in the Ivy League that did not allow a sack.  Adams weighs 6 foot 7 308 pounds.

Jeff Adams is not generating a lot of exposure and did not receive a combine invite.  Adams is one of the small school sleepers in this draft.

Adams is projected to run a 5.02 40 time.  That’s impressive considering only 2 offensive lineman ran 40 times in under 5 seconds.

Adams has 34 1/2 length arms.  Adams could improve his knee bending technique.  I see him having success in Pittsburgh becoming a great value pick with the right coaching.

Adams could become the Steelers eventual left tackle if Gilbert screws up at left tackle.  Gilbert is better suited at right tackle.  Willie Colon played left tackle at Hofstra before the Steelers moved him outside to right tackle in Pittsburgh.  Many draft experts projected Colon as a guard in the NFL due to his lack of height at 6 foot 3 320 pounds.  Pittsburgh forced Colon into a situation he wasn’t ready to handle at right tackle.

Here Pittsburgh takes Jeff Adams as a developmental left tackle.  Once Adams gets his chance to shine he could become left tackle for the long haul.  Gilbert would go back to right tackle with Willie Colon moving inside to left guard where Colon rightfully belongs.

Worst case scenario Allen does not pan out as a small school left tackle getting cut by the Steelers in training camp.  The 2013 NFL Draft is literally loaded with blue chip left tackle prospects so Pittsburgh could finally solve their left tackle problem.

Previous Pick Jeff Allen Left Tackle Illinois Senior

183. Philadelphia Eagles frorm Denver Broncos 8-8 Garth Gerhart Center Arizona State Senior Redshirt Garth Gehart is the brother of Toby Gerhart.  Adding Gerhart to the Eagles offensive line may help the Eagles out.

184. Houston Texans Joel Foreman Left Guard Michigan State Senior Redshirt Houston needs a starter at left guard.  Joel Foreman could become a starter with the right development.

Previous Pick Brandon Brooks Right Guard Miami Ohio Senior

185. Miami Dolphins from  New Orleans Saints 13-3 Justin Bethel Presbyterian Strong Safety Senior The Presbyterian secondary superstar can play cornerback, strong safety, free safety, kick returner, or punt returner.  Bethel has the speed and size that teams will look for.  Miami will draft Bethel as a strong safety in the late rounds.

Previous Pick Aaron Henry Free Safety Wisconsin Senior Redshirt

186. Green Bay Packers 15-1 Mike Ryan Left Tackle Connecticut Senior Redshirt Mike Ryan can run block or pass block weighing in at 6 foot 5 335 pounds.  Ryan would provide good depth behind Marshall Newhouse with Chad Clifton’s departure.

2010 first round pick Bryan Bulaga may stay at right tackle.  Derrick Sherrod may still be injured from last season.  Sherrod was Green Bay’s 2011 first round pick.

Previous Pick Case Keenum Quarterback Houston Senior Redshirt

187. Baltimore Ravens 12-4 Austin Davis Quarterback Southern Miss Senior Redshirt The Ravens need a backup for depth behind Joe Flacco.  I am not completely sold on Virginia Tech’s Tyrod Taylor as that player yet.

Austin Davis broke all of Brett Favre’s records at Southern Miss.  The Ravens scouts spoke extensively with Davis during the East West Shrine Game.  Davis could realistically go to Baltimore here.

188. San Francisco 49ers 13-3 Donte Paige Moss 3-4 Right Outside Linebacker Junior Donte Paige Moss could provide some depth on the 49ers already amazing front 7.  If one coach can channel Donte Paige Moss character issues that coach may be Jim Harbaugh.

189. Philadelphia Eagles from New England Patriots 13-3 Brandon Taylor Strong Safety LSU Senior The Eagles may use this pick to add a strong safety for depth.

Previous Pick Jack Crawford Right End Penn State Senior

190. New York Giants Grant Garner Center Oklahoma State Senior RedshirtThe New York Giants need an upgrade over David Baas at center.  Grant Garner provides good value at the end of round 6.

Round 7

191. Indianapolis Colts 2-14 DeAngelo Tyson 3-4 Left End Georgia Senior The Colts need 2 3-4 defensive ends.  Adding a sleeper like DeAngelo Tyson will help solidify the Colts depth chart.

192. St. Louis Rams 2-14 Landon Walker Right Tackle Clemson Senior Redshirt Landon Walker is a run blocking right tackle.  Walker could provide some competition for 2009 top 5 pick Jason Smith.  The Rams still have faith in Smith.  Smith looks like a bust though with no major progress after 3 years.

Previous Pick Danny Trevathian Right Outside Linebacker Kentucky Senior

193. Minnesota Vikings 3-13 Evan Rodriquez Tight End Temple Senior Redshirt Evan Rodriquez can be used as a #2 tight end or a fullback.  The Vikings fullback retired plus Visante Schiancoe is a free agent.  Kyle Rudolph was injury prone coming out of Notre Dame.  The value of tight ends is increasing in the NFL.  Rodriquez could be a #2 tight end or a fullback.

The Vikings need a #2 tight end and a fullback.  That’s why Rodriquez’s value is so high.

Previous Pick Lance Mitchell Free Safety Oregon State Senior Redshirt

194. Cleveland Browns 4-12 Chandler Harnish Quarterback Northern Illinois Senior Redshirt Cleveland should end up getting Matt Flynn and Colt McCoy.  If they get both, a quarterback in the late rounds will be needed.

Chandler Harnish was someone that I had in the 3rd round at one point.  Harnish is one of my favorite sleepers in this draft.  Harnish could provide Cleveland with an intriguing developmental project.

Previous Pick Neiko Thorpe Free Safety Auburn

195. Tampa Bay Buccaneers 4-12 Miles Burris Right Outside Linebacker San Diego State Senior Redshirt Tampa Bay gets a right outside linebacker to solidify their defense.  Miles Burris is a late round gem from San Diego State that can play the weak side.

Tampa Bay will focus on the secondary and improve their pass defense.  Tampa Bay will use this pick on a right outside linebacker.

Previous Pick Chad Diehl Fullback Clemson Senior Redshirt

196. Washington Redskins 5-11 Mark Asper Right Tackle Oregon Senior Redshirt Mark Asper can play right tackle or right guard as a backup for depth.  Asper played right tackle in a zone blocking scheme at Oregon opening up running lanes for an Oregon Ducks team that lost to LSU and USC teams that are expected to be ranked at the top of the polls in College Football this preseason.

Oregon lost the National Title to Auburn the previous season.  Asper’s blocking on the Ducks was really instrumental in James development.

Previous Pick Korey Williams 3-4 Middle Linebacker Southern Miss Senior Redshirt

197. Jacksonville Jaguars 5-11 Aaron Henry Free Safety Wisconsin Senior Redshirt The Jaguars add a free safety for depth in round 7.  Wisconsin free safety Aaron Henry anchored a Wisconsin pass defense that ranked 4th in the nation.  Henry managed to tally nearly 100 tackles for the Wisconsin Badgers in 2011.

Previous Pick Michael Egnew Tight End Missouri Senior

198. Miami Dolphins 6-10 Antoine McClain Right Guard Clemson Senior Miami will need a right guard for the long term if they discard Vernon Carey.  Miami could bring in Jeff Saturday at center moving Mike Pouncey back to right guard for the short term before moving Pouncey back to center for the long haul.

If the Dolphins decide not to bring Saturday a right guard will be needed.  Antoine McClain was another blue chip blocker on Clemson’s offensive line in 2011.

Previous Pick Sean Richardson Strong Safety Vanderbilt Senior

199. Carolina Panthers 6-10 Oliver Vernon Right End Miami FL Junior Carolina adds a right end for depth.  Oliver Vernon could provide depth in the late rounds.

Previous Pick Antoine McClain Right Guard Clemson Senior

200. Buffalo Bills 6-10 Tyler Nielsen Left Outside Linebacker Iowa Senior Redshirt The Bills use this pick to add a left outside linebacker for depth.  Chris Kelsay may not transition from 3-4 left outside linebacker to 4-3 right outside linebacker.

Previous Pick Josh Oglesby Right Tackle Wisconsin Senior Redshirt

201. Seattle Seahawks 7-9 Jacquies Smith Left End Missouri Senior The Seahawks get a left end in the 7th round.  Smith could get by some right tackles to create some pressure on defense.

Previous Pick Oliver Vernon Right End Miami FL Junior

202. New England Patriots from Kansas City Chiefs 7-9 William Vlachos Center Alabama Senior Redshirt New England gets this pick in a trade with Kansas City if the Chiefs trade their 2nd and 3rd round picks along with this pick to move up for Tannehill.

203. Chicago Bears 8-8 Ryan Steed Cornerback Furman Senior Ryan Steed is a #1 shutdown field corner.  Steed would really help the Bears secondary if he can prevent speed receivers from creating separation.  Steed helps Chicago out in round 7.

Previous Pick RJ Blanton Cornerback Notre Dame Senior

204. Arizona Cardinals 8-8 Josh Oglesby Right Tackle Wisconsin Senior Redshirt The Arizona Cardinals get a starting right tackle only in Josh Oglesby in the late rounds.

Previous Pick Jamell Flemming Cornerback Oklahoma Senior Redshirt

205. Dallas Cowboys 8-8 Devier Posey Wide Receiver Ohio State Senior Devier Posey is one of my favorite late round prospects.  Miles Austin and Dez Bryant are the Cowboys two biggest targets.  If one gets suspended or injured then a slot receiver is needed.  Posey could be a #1 target if either receiver got injured.

Previous Pick Jarrett Boykin Wide Receiver Virginia Tech Senior

206. Minnesota Vikings from New England Patriots via Philadelphia Eagles 8-8 Sean Richardson Strong Safety Vanderbilt Senior Sean Richardson is one of my favorite safeties.  Richardson played next to Casey Heyward on Vanderbilt’s secondary.  I like Richardson better than Heyward in terms of long term value.  The one thing that impressed

Previous Pick Eddie Pleasent Strong Safety Oregon Senior Redshirt

207. New York Jets 8-8 Eddie Pleasent Strong Safety Oregon Senior Redshirt Eddie Pleasent has the skill set of a two way safety.  The Jets may target a safety like Pleasent in the late rounds.  Pleasent reminds me of a raw version of Patrick Chung with TJ Ward’s ability to cover.

Previous Pick Darius Fleming 3-4 Right Outside Linebacker Notre Dame Senior

208. Seattle Seahawks from Oakland Raiders 8-8 Marc Tyler Running Back USC Senior Redshirt Marshawn Lynch will remain the starter.  Justin Forsett is an effective #2 back.  Forsett may be a free agent.  Marc Tyler is my top graded running back.  Tyler has the skill set to develop into a solid #2 back.

Previous PIck Adewale Ojomo Left End Miami FL Senior Redshirt

209. San Diego Chargers 8-8 Terrance Ganaway Running Back Baylor Senior Redshirt Terrance Ganaway is a 5th round talent that can play running back or fullback.  Ganaway could be a #2 back in the right system.  The Chargers need a fullback with Jacob Hester becoming a free agent.  San Diego also needs a #3 back behind Ryan Matthews and Mike Tolbert.

Previous Pick Matt McCants Left Tackle UAB Senior Redshirt

210. Tennessee Titans 9-7 Adewale Ojomo Left End Miami FL Senior Redshirt The Titans use this pick on a pass rusher for depth.  Ojomo could provide competition for 2nd round pick Cam Johnson.

Previous Pick Daniel “Boom” Herron Running Back Ohio State Senior Redshirt

211. Cincinnati Bengals 9-7 Kellen Moore Quarterback Boise State Senior Redshirt Kellen Moore could be a backup to Andy Dalton.  Moore faced Dalton in the 2010 Fiesta Bowl long before either quarterback was considered a pro prospect.  Moore could get a chance to be Dalton’s backup in Cincinnati.

Moore defeated Dalton in that Fiesta Bowl.  Now Moore gets a chance to take his job if he capitalizes as a backup having a TJ Yates type of season.

In 2011 Kellen Moore lost Titus Young and Austin Pettis which were Moore’s 2 deep threats.  Moore finished the 2011 season with 3,800 passing yards, 43 passing touchdowns, and 9 interceptions.

Kellen Moore weighs 6 foot 1 191 pounds.  Moore is a quarterback with the size of a cornerback.  Moore has the heart and mental skill set to play quarterback.  Moore would make a great game manager and backup in the NFL.

Moore threw 63 touchdowns and 7 picks during his senior year of high school.  Kellen Moore ended his career at Boise State with 142 passing touchdowns and 28 interceptions.

Previous Pick Chandler Harnish Quarterback Northern Illinois Senior Redshirt

212. Atlanta Falcons 10-6 Brandon Barden Tight End Vanderbilt Senior Redshirt Atlanta gets a tight end to groom behind Tony Gonzalez.  One of my favorite tight ends in this draft that will fall to round 7 is Vanderbilt’s Brandon Barden.  Barden is a sharp instinctive route runner that can serve as an effective blocking tight end.  Barden needs to improve his catching ability and explosiveness.

Previous Pick Phelon Jones Cornerback Alabama Senior Redshirt

213. Detroit Lions 10-6 Phillip Blake Center Baylor Senior Redshirt Detroit gets a center to groom behind Dominic Raiola in round 7.  Blake would provide great value at this point.

Previous Pick Kellen Moore Quarterback Senior Redshirt

214. Pittsburgh Steelers 12-4 Darius Fleming 3-4 Right Outside Linebacker Notre Dame Senior Pittsburgh seems to take a pass rusher every year.  Darius Fleming is an underrated 3-4 right outside linebacker.  I think he will end up being a sleeper just by watching the tape.  Mike Mayock goes to a lot of Notre Dame games.  He’s high on Fleming too and wondered why the media isn’t giving him more exposure.

Fleming goes on to succeed James Harrison when Harrison retires.  Chris Carr and Jason Worilds both showed weakness trying to fill the presence that Harrison and Woodly provided.  Pittsburgh had constant injuries at linebacker in 2011.

Previous Pick Danny Coale Wide Receiver Virginia Tech Senior Redshirt

215. Denver Broncos 8-8 Cyrus Gray Running Back Texas A&M Senior Denver gets Cyrus Gray as a #3 back behind Willis McGahee and Knowshon Moreno.  Gray provides great value in round 7.  Some people believe that Gray provides 3rd round talent.

Despite suffering some injury issues Gray has been very effective when healthy.  In 2010, Gray filled in for an injury prone Christine Michael.  Cyrus Gray had 200 carries, 1,133 rushing yards, and 12 rushing touchdowns in 2010.  Gray began the 2011 season as the Aggies starting running back

Previous Pick Eric Page Wide Receiver Toledo Junior

216. Houston Texans 10-6 Trenton Robinson Free Safety Michigan State Senior Houston finally gets a free safety in round 6.  The 2013 NFL Draft will be stacked with safety.  Houston can get a safety at this spot.

Previous PIck DJ Holt 3-4 Middle Linebacker California Senior Redshirt

217. New Orleans Saints 13-3 Derek Moye Wide Receiver Penn State Senior Redshirt Derek Moye is a unique late round prospect.  The Saints need a #1 target if they part ways with Colston.  Moye lacks the physical ability to beat press.  Moye has every other quality to emerge into a #1 target.  Moye may become another successful receiver due to working with Drew Brees.

Previous Pick William Vlachos Center Alabama Senior Redshirt

218. Green Bay Packers 15-1 Jacory Harris Quarterback Miami FL Senior Green Bay gets a backup for Aaron Rodgers in the late rounds.  Green Bay got a 7th round quarterback with Matt Flynn and developed him into a starter back in 2008.  Maybe they do the same thing with Jacory Harris.

Harris has elite physical tools for a quarterback.  Harris needs to improve his accuracy and master the concepts of a pro style offense.  Harris is a wildcat quarterback that operated a spread offense in Miami FL.

At Miami FL, Harris showcased some flash of being a decent game manager.  Harris worked with a great offensive line and a running back with Lamar Miller.  Harris had some playmakers at wide receiver and tight end too.

Harris would have a very similar supporting cast on offense in Green Bay.  Tom Clements was the quarterbacks coach that developed Matt Flynn.  Clements could monitor the progress of Harris.

Harris’s success as a backup will all come down to his work ethic and how hard the Packers new quarterback coach is willing to work Jacory Harris.

Previous Pick Joel Foreman Left Guard Michigan State Senior Redshirt

219. Baltimore Ravens 12-4 Austin Pasztor Left Guard Virginia Senior Pasztor was a very productive left guard at Virginia.  He was a great run blocker and part of an offensive line that only allowed 2 sacks in 22 quarters for the Virginia Cavaliers.

Pasztor’s success was heavily overshadowed by Virginia offensive tackles Oday Aboushi and Morgan Moses.  Both Virginia offensive tackles have the chance to be 2013 NFL first round Prospects.

Baltimore will need a new left guard if they cannot resign left guard Ben Grubbs.  Austin Pasztor provides great value as a late round value in round 7.

Previous Pick Blake DeChristopher Right Tackle Virginia Tech Senior Redshirt

220. San Francisco 49ers 13-3 Donnie Fletcher Cornerback Boston College Senior Donnie Fletcher really struggled during the Senior Bowl and the NFL Combine.  I gave San Francisco a right guard, 2 wide receivers, a free safety, a 3-4 left end, and a 3-4 pass rusher through 6 rounds.

Donnie Fletcher is not my favorite cornerback.  Fletcher is the best cornerback available.  Fletcher could provide a solid nickel corner that may develop into a #2 boundary cornerback.

Previous Pick Landon Walker Right Tackle Clemson Senior

221. Kansas City Chiefs from New England Patriots 13-3 Brian Linthicum Tight End Michigan State Senior Linthicum was a great blocking tight end that made Kirk Cousins job easy.  Linthicum is a #2 tight end.  Linthicum could step in at tight end if Tony Moeaki gets injured.  Right now Linthicum is a #2 target.

Previous Pick Greg Childs Wide Receiver Arkansas Senior

222. New York Giants Lance Dunbar Running Back North Texas Senior Mr. Irrelevant in this mock draft goes to North Texas running back Lance Dunbar.  Dunbar is a 5th round talent that could come in and compete with DaRell Scott to be the #2 back behind Ahmad Bradshaw.

North Texas went to Dunbar to manage games hoping he would make the quarterbacks job easier in the backfield.  The North Texas Mean Green got a good one with Dunbar. Lance Dunbar was the face of the North Texas Mean Green Bean Fighting Machine on offense for the North Texas Mean Green.

Lance Dunbar has had a minimum of 200 carries, 1,100+ rushing yards, a minimum of 10 rushing touchdowns, 28 receptions, 300 receiving yards, and 2 receiving touchdowns in each season since he became the full time starter for North Texas back in 2009.

One memorable moment for Dunbar was the final game of his career.  Dunbar just literally took Middle Tennessee State to school at Mean Green Stadium.  Dunbar had 40 carries, 313 rushing yards, and 4 rushing touchdowns in a single game.  If Dunbar amounts to half of that when he gets a chance to start for the Giants, then Giants fans should be very happy.

Dunbar has great production.  The 5 foot 9 203 pound size knocks Dunbar down to this pick.  Ahmad Bradshaw got knocked down to the late rounds too and look how he panned out.

Previous Pick James Rodgers Wide Receiver Oregon State Senior
