Josh Gorges, defenseman for the Montreal Canadiens has signed a deal with the club that would keep the 27 year old player in Montreal for six more years.
The terms of this new deal have not been finalized, but sources have indicated that Gorges will be receiving a $3.9 million per year salary.
Through 39 games this season, this British Columbian native is having a career year in ice time with 22:35 per game.
Gorges is in his sixth year with the Canadiens. Though Gorges is a defensive defenseman, his best offensive season came in 2008/09 where he recorded 4 goals and 19 assist for 23 points.
Josh Gorges has certainly come a long way from being signed as an undrafted free age by the San Jose Sharks in 2002. He has a $3.9 annual salary and was named the assistant captain of the Canadians at the start of this season.
The Canadiens are right at the salary cap and have Andei Kostitsyn, Travis Moen, Lars Eller, Hal Gill, Chris Campoli and Carey Price, who are all either UFA’s or RFA’s at the end of this season.
