Tony Stewart has a Disappointing NASCAR Day in the Nationwide Series Opener at Daytona

By Brian Berg Jr.

Toney Stewart‘s four NASCAR Nationwide Series Daytona season opening winning race streak came to a crashing end.  This year he was driving the #33 car for Richard Childress Racing.  Richard told him to run a smart race and don’t worry about the car.  Tony Stewart was in the front all day.  He led the most laps (22) second only to Kurt Busch (46) who ironically caused the wreck that took both of them out by blocking the field.

James Buescher won the race from the 11th position when he was able to steer his car through the carnage and into the lead before the caution flag waved.  When it was all over there were only 17 cars of 43 left on the lead lap.  In addition to Tony, Kurt Busch took out Joey Logano, Trevor Bayne and Elliot Sadler, Kyle Busch, Kasey Kahne, Ricky Stenhouse Jr, Cole Whitt and himself.

Two NASCAR Nationwide Series records for Daytona International Speedway were set today in the DRIVE4COPD 300 – the most lead changes (38) and the most leaders (16). Previous record was 35 lead changes among 12 leaders.

In Danica Patrick’s start on the pole she got wrecked by her team mate and was heard on her radio with an expletive laced rant.  Welcome to NASCAR full time Danica.  If you are interested listen in here
If you missed the last lap crash you can watch it here.

The Daytona 500 is tomorrow, expect it to be just as exciting.
