Kasey Kahne has been having a horrible NASCAR season. He was supposed to move into the legendary Hendrick Motor Sports No. 5 car and pick up where he left off at his old team. It has not gone that way until now. Since the race at Richmond he has moved up from a major disappointing 23rd in the standings to 15th in the standings. With his win in The Coca Cola 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway he is now in the running for one of the two wild card spots in the Chase. These two spots go to the driver with the most wins who is between 20th and 10th in the standings. The two wild card positions are currently held by Brad Keselowski with two wins and Ryan Newman with one win. Brad is 11th and Ryan is 13th in the standings. Kasey Kahne is only 7 points away from Ryan. “It feels good to get a win for Hendrick Motorsports. It’s something I’ve been looking forward to, for a year and a half, to drive for Hendrick Motorsports, to be teammates with Jimmie, Dale and Jeff. To put it all together tonight and get the win, it feels good.” said Kasey after the Coca Cola 600.
Last year we saw that if you can have wins during the regular season they can help you tremendously, not only to get into the Chase for the Sprint Cup but also to give you a head start in the points before the Chase starts. Now that Kasey Kahne has won a race he has put himself into position to get into the Chase. He has also put himself in a great place to win another race and perhaps move up into the top ten in points.
When asked how he felt about his dream ride, Kasey said “Well, I think the biggest thing for myself was just to figure out the cars, figure out how they drove. It’s been a little bit different for me. We’ve had speed. Even the last five, six races we’ve been in the top 10, but not near as fast as Jimmie Johnson or a couple of those guys that have been winning the races. I just knew for myself I needed to step up. Our team is solid. Our car is solid. Mr. Hendrick gives us everything we need to win races and run up front. Tonight we were able to put it all together.” Look out NASCAR! Kasey Kahne has figured it all out and is ready to get the job done.
Kasey Kahne is now on his game. Kasey said “I never really doubted myself. I was upset at some of the things that may have happened. I made a huge mistake at Phoenix, hit the wall there. But other than that, we were solid, we were fast. It was just a matter of getting past those five weeks and moving on and putting some solid races together.” It is great seeing Kasey get back to his old form. This will be something fans will enjoy watching throughout the races this summer.
