Stacy Compton will be making his second attempt to qualify his #74 Turn One Racing Chevy, sponsored
by Best Western, for this weekend’s 400 miles at Pocono Raceway.
Compton, who has owned his own team since 2006, has mainly
fielded trucks to promote young drivers in the Camping World Truck Series. Last year Turn One Racing fielded trucks for driver Cole Whitt, who currently drives for JR Motorsports in the Nationwide Series.
Stacy Compton has not competed in the Sprint Cup Series
since 2003. Formally considered by some a future star, Stacy sat on the inside
pole for the 2001 Daytona 500 and finished the race with a top 10. Later that
year, Compton swept both Talladega Superspeedway poles driving for Dodge in the
#92 owned by Mark Melling, sponsored by Kodiak.
Turn One Racing has made 9 attempts this year in NASCAR’s top
division, making 6 races. Cole Whitt has made 3 of those races and Reed
Sorenson has made the other 3. They are currently sitting 47th in NASCAR’s Sprint Cup Owner Standings.
The last time Stacy Compton competed in any NASCAR sanctioned
race was 2010 at Phoenix in the truck series. Compton finished 16th
in that race.
