The Earnhardt-Ganassi team mates will have the opportunity to run in the Grand AM race at Indianapolis on July 27th. It was announced on the Earnhardt-Ganassi section of Chip Ganassi’s website that Montoya and McMurray will in the Grand AM Series’s inaugural race at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
Montoya and McMurray will be racing in the No.02 BMW with sponsorship by Chevron. Both drivers have not raced in the series since the 24 hours of Daytona back in January. They will be Chip Ganassi’s second entry in the race along with the No.01 Telmex Dinan-Prepared BMW Riley driven by Scott Pruett and Memo Rojas.
The race at Indianapolis will be Montoya’s 13th start at Indy and he is also the only driver to have raced at the track in NASCAR, Formula 1, and IndyCar. Montoya has made five of those starts in a NASCAR Sprint Cup car. Montoya has also found success in the Grand AM series before where he won two 24 Hours of Daytona, in two consecutive years, 2007 and 2008.
McMurray also has experience in the Grand AM cars as well. He was a part of the 2012 No.02 car team at the 24 hours at Daytona along with Montoya, and IndyCar racers Dario Franchitti and Scott Dixon.
