Matt Kenseth has been a staple at Roush Racing for his entire career. However, he might not be in that stable for much longer. Kenseth is driving a car with limited sponsorship this season and speculation is growing that he would leave Roush for Joe Gibbs Racing or Penske Racing at the end of the year.
This would be an interesting move. If Kenseth leaves, he would definitely go to a team that is backed by Ford. It would just be weird to see Kenseth driving for a different car make. He has become one of the best known drivers for Ford and is also a perennial title contender. Drivers like Kenseth do not become available very often, so expect a lot of people trying to woo him.
This will be an interesting thing to watch as we move closer to 2013. There will be a lot of driver movement and a lot of open rides. Joey Logano could be out of a ride at JGR, Jeff Burton may be moving on from Richard Childress Racing, and Kurt Busch might finally get another top ride, barring an emotional meltdown.
If Matt Kenseth does leave Roush, there will be a number of companies trying to recruit him. It is not often that a championship driver becomes available. Funding is becoming a red flag for a lot of teams, which means talented drivers are available. Matt Kenseth certainly could become the crown jewel of the Silly Season.
