Matt Kenseth Leaving Roush Fenway Racing At End Of 2012 Season
Matt Kenseth is going to have to find himself a new team for next year. The former champion is leaving Roush Fenway Racing at the end of the 2012 season. Ricky Stenhouse Jr. is going to be the man that drives the 17 car next season.
I have speculated on Kenseth leaving, but I did not expect an announcement so soon. He should be able to find a ride fairly quickly. I imagine that some teams might move a couple drivers around in order to get a shot at Kenseth. Title winners that have no issues do not come available very often. I mean, you could sign Matt Kenseth or you could go after Kurt Busch. I got Kenseth every time.
He has not had sponsorship on this car all season and Roush had been paying for it out of pocket. He deserves better and he should find a ride soon. He might end up at Joe Gibbs or Penske. I think those two would be the best fit for him long term. There might be a darkhorse or two, but those two teams should be the frontrunners for his services.
This is certainly big news to break during the middle of the season. I expect Kenseth will only be a free agent for a couple of weeks. Some other driver is going to get bad news very soon, but that is what happens in this business. Kenseth is too good not to sign.
