Sam Hornish Jr. will be doing double duty at New Hampshire for Penske Racing.
In a statement released on the Penske Racing website, it was announced that Hornish will compete in the No.22 Dodge in the cup series race at New Hampshire. Hornish will race in the cup series replacing AJ Allmendinger who is temporarily suspended from all NASCAR competition.
Hornish is listed on the line-up for the cup race on NASCAR’s homepage. He will be doing double duty since Hornish will also be racing in the Nationwide Series race on Saturday. Although Hornish is racing this Sunday, he will not be collecting championship points since he is racing for the Nationwide Series title.
Penske Racing mentions in their statement that they are working with NASCAR to follow up with procedures in the suspension of Allmendinger. Allmendinger was suspended prior to the Coke Zero 400 at Daytona Saturday night for failing a substance abuse test. No further details concerning the No.22 team have been revealed.
On the official NASCAR website it mentions that Allmendinger has requested for his ‘B’ sample to be tested and on Monday night his request was received. A final decision will be taken by NASCAR when results for the ‘B’ sample are released. If Allmendinger fails his second test he will be suspended indefinitely and take part of a treatment program.
