Ricky Stenhouse Jr. Gets the Pole for the STP 300 at Chicagoland Speedway

By Brian Berg Jr.

Ricky Stenhouse Jr. is the NASCAR Nationwide Series Coors Light pole award winner at Chicagoland Speedway.  He will lead the field to start the STP 300 later in the afternoon.   Ricky Stenhouse Jr. is one of the four drivers who will be racing for $100,000 bonus in the NASCAR Nationwide Series “Dash 4 Cash”.  Starting the race in the front is a great way to be in a position to win this bonus.  Ricky’s lap was 176.916 MPH, 23/1000 faster than Austin Dillon.

Ricky Stenhouse Jr. drives the No. 6 Roush Fenway Racing Rancher’s Reserve Ford Mustang.  He currently is third in the Nationwide Series standings 16 points behind leader Elliott Sadler.

Ricky successfully negotiated a rough track which has many bumps that slowed down some of the other qualifiers. Ricky said, “Chicagoland is a great track. I really enjoy racing there. The track is rough which I like.”  This is his third pole and 16th top ten start in 2012 and his first pole at Chicagoland Speedway.  Ricky has seven poles in 91 NASCAR Nationwide Series races.

The rest of the top five starters are in order, Austin Dillon, Sam Hornish Jr., Kyle Busch, and Parker Klingerman.

Other drivers racing for the “Dash 4 Cash” at Chicagoland Speedway are Austin Dillon, Sam Hornish Jr. and Elliott Sadler

The STP 300 will be on ESPN2 at 2 PM ET Sunday, July 22nd.
