Driver of the Number 13 Geico car, Casey Mears, will lead the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series field to the green flag Saturday night.

Mears won the pole position after Friday afternoon’s Cup Series qualifying session at Bristol Motor Speedway was rained out. The field for Saturday was set by the speeds posted during Friday’s first practice session. Mears led all cars in the first practice with a speed of 122.209 mph.

The pole at Bristol is Mears’s first of 2012. Through out his career he has won three poles at Pocono and Indianapolis in 2004, as well as Chicagoland in 2007.

Joining Mears on the front row will be Brad Keselowski. Closing out the top five are Michigan winner Greg Biffle, Joey Logano, and Aric Almirola.

During practice 47 cars were on the track. With the rain out Scott Speed, Kelly Bires, Reed Sorenson, and J.J Yeley did not make the race.

Danica Patrick, who is returning to the Cup Series since her last race at Charlotte, was the slowest in practice. Although she was last on the speed charts in practice, Patrick will start 43rd, and qualified into the race by owner points.

Rounding out the top ten are Jeff Burton, Paul Menard, Denny Hamlin, Marcos Ambrose, and Kyle Busch.
