Trevor Bayne will lead the field to the green flag under the lights at Bristol.
In his first race back in the NASCAR Nationwide Series, Bayne captured the pole by posting a speed of 121.190 in 15.833 at Bristol Motor Speedway. Bayne, who has not raced in the Nationwide Series since Fontana, made his return to the series during qualifying.
Although Bayne’s 2012 Nationwide Series schedule was cut short, he plans to run full time in 2013.
Joining Bayne on the front row will be Joey Logano. Closing out the top five are Brian Scott, Austin Dillon, and Ricky Stenhouse Jr.
Some of the drivers how are pulling double duty qualified within the top 20. Kevin Harvick qualified 13th, Kasey Kahne 15th, and Joe Nemechek 16th.
Danica Patrick qualified 34th after she spun during her first lap qualifying.
Points leader Elliott Sadler qualified seventh.
During the qualifying session 46 cars made qualifying runs. Brad Teague, Robert Richardson Jr. and Blake Koch failed to make the field.
Rounding out the top ten are last week’s winner Justin Allgaier, Sadler, Brad Keselowski, Sam Hornish Jr., and Kyle Busch.
