Travis Pastrana will race again in the 2012 NASCAR season as he has signed on to race at Richmond International Raceway.

In a press release on the Roush-Fenway Racing webpage, it was announced Monday that the action sports star will join the team in the No.60 Ford Mustang at Richmond.

With his latest opportunity to race in 2012, Pastrana is pleased to drive behind the wheel of one of the most successful teams in the NASCAR Nationwide Series.

“It’s a truly awesome opportunity to get behind the wheel of the Roush-Fenway No.60 Ford Mustang,” said Pastrana in the press release. “Roush-Fenway Racing has a strong background as the most successful team in the history of the NASCAR Nationwide Series, and I’m pleased to be driving for a legend like Jack Roush this weekend at Richmond.”

The Nationwide Series race at Atlanta Saturday night was the last of the eight scheduled races in the 2012 season that Pastrana would race in the No.99 Toyota Camry.  With the latest race added onto Pastrana’s 2012 Nationwide Series schedule, he will return to the track where he made his NASCAR Nationwide Series debut earlier in the season.

During the 2012 season, Pastrana got the opportunity to race with a partnership between Michael Waltrip Racing and RAB Racing. The partnership between the two teams helped guarantee Pastrana a starting spot in his Nationwide debut back in April.

Prior to the race at Atlanta Motor Speedway during the Labor Day weekend, Pastrana’s last Nationwide race was at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. During his debut, he placed 22nd at Richmond. Since his first race, Pastrana has managed a career best finish of 13th at IMS back in July. During his last race in Atlanta, Pastrana led his first career lap.

Since his debut Pastrana has averaged a 22.0 finish, along with a 24.2 average start. He currently sits 29th within the Nationwide Series point standings.

“There is a tough learning curve in NASCAR for sure,” said Pastrana. “But I have been happy with the gradual improvement.”
