JR Motorsports Announces Ryan Pemberton As New Competition Director
JR Motorsports has signed Ryan Pemberton as it’s the latest addition to the organization.
It was announced by ESPN on Friday that Pemberton will be joining JR Motorsports as the organization’s newest competition director. Pemberton will take over in his new position Monday following the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series chase opener at Chicagoland Speedway.
Dale Earnhardt Jr. told ESPN that Pemberton will be helping out on what direction the organization can take.
“He’s going to help Kelley [Earnhardt Miller] with some ideas on what direction we can go in to get better,” said Earnhardt.
Pemeberton’s new role at JR Motorsports is the latest in his NASCAR career. In 1988 Pemberton began his career working for Roush Fenway Racing as a mechanic. He was also a crew chief at the now defunct Red Bull Racing team.
Pemberton is also the brother of NASCAR Vice President of competition, Robin Pemberton.
A week prior to the Pemberton joining JR Motorsports, it was announced during the weekend at Richmond, that the team and Tony Eury Sr. were parting ways.
During the 2012 NASCAR Nationwide Series, Eury’s son Tony Eury Jr. has been the crew chief for Danica Patrick in the No.7 car.
Eury also happens to be the uncle of team owners Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Kelley Earnhardt Miller.
JR Motorsports has been in the NASCAR Nationwide Series since 2005, and the team’s last win came in September 2010.
