RickyStenhouse Jr. will be pulling double duty this weekend at Dover International Speedway as he will be attempting his 3rd career Sprint Cup Series start in the iconic #6 Roush Fenway Racing Ford Fusion. Stenhouse Jr. drove the #6 in this year’s Daytona 500 finishing21st, but has not attempted a race in the Cup series since.
Ricky is in a tight battle between Elliott Sadler and Austin Dillon for the 2012 Nationwide Series Championship but this will give Ricky much needed seat time to prepare him for his jump to the Sprint Cup Series next year when he steps into the #17 Roush Fenway Racing Ford Fusion, replacing longtime RFR driver Matt Kenseth. Kenseth is leaving RFR after 13 seasons to drive for Joe Gibbs Racing and the infamous #20 Home Depot Toyota.
Stenhouse Jr., from Olive Branch Mississippi, has competed in the Nationwide Series since his debut in 2009 and all of them have been with RFR. Racking up 7 victories in 100 starts, 2011 Nationwide Championship and the 2010 Rookie of the Year honors are just a few of his many accomplishments since his 2009 season. Rancher’s Reserve and Safeway will serve as the primary sponsors for both the #6 Ford Mustang and #6 Ford Fusion.
Ricky Stenhouse Jr. will battle for the 2013 Rookie of the Year in the Sprint Cup Series with Danica Patrick who is expected to race full time next season in a 3rd Stewart Haas Racing Chevrolet. This will set the stage for Ford and Chevy to dual each week for the best finishing rookie.
