With the fourth race in the 2012 NASCAR Chase for the Sprint Cup heading into the longest track of the ten race schedule, Kasey Kahne will lead the field to the green flag Sunday at Talladega.
Kahne won the pole for Sunday’s Good Sam Roadside Assistance 500 at Talladega Superspeedway during Saturday’s qualifying session when he posted a qualifying lap at 191.455mph in 50.017 seconds. The pole at Talladega is Kahne’s third pole of the season and 25th of his career.
Joining Kahne on the front will be Ryan Newman. Closing out the top five are fellow chasers Clint Bowyer, Tony Stewart, and Greg Biffle.
Saturday afternoon’s qualifying session at Talladega featured seven of the 12 chasers qualifying into the top ten for Sunday’s Good Sam Road Side Assistance 500. Jeff Gordon qualified in sixth and Martin Truex Jr. qualified ninth.
The rest of the chasers qualified within the top 25. Dale Earnhardt Jr. qualified in 12th followed by Matt Kenseth in 15th, Kevin Harvick in 21st, Brad Keselowski in 22nd, and Denny Hamlin in 23rd.
Heading into Talladega Keselowski goes into the race with the points lead. Johnson goes in second five points behind the leader, followed by Hamlin 16 points behind and Bowyer who is 25 points back.
Closing out the top ten for Sunday’s race at Talladega are Gordon, Carl Edwards, Trevor Bayne, Truex, and Sam Hornish Jr.
