Regan Smith To Drive For Phoenix Racing At Charlotte

As his time with Furniture Row Racing comes to an end at Talladega, Regan Smith has found a way to continue his 2012 NASCAR season.

Following the Good Sam Roadside Assistance 500 at Talladega Superspeedway, Smith will join a new team for the fifth race in the chase. According to Fox Sports, Smith will race for Phoenix Racing in the No.51 at Charlotte Motor Speedway, replacing the departing Kurt Busch.

Both men will be replacing each other in the rides both men started the 2012 season in.

At Talladega Smith ends his time with Furniture Row, a team he has been with since 2009. Smith confirmed his departure during the beginning stages of the chase that he would not end the season in the No.78 car or return in 2013.  Busch was announced as the new driver of the No.78 on September 24th.

As Smith will go behind the wheel of the No.51 car at Charlotte, he will be put to the test to see how he can work well with the team. No further plans have been announced past Charlotte.

Busch’s time with Phoenix Racing came to an end at during the Good Sam Roadside Assistance 500, when he wrecked during lap 99. NASCAR decided to end Busch’s day and parked him after he drove off after safety workers went over to the car. Busch also drove off without his helmet.
