After a chaotic finish at Phoenix and championship hopes dashed Michael Waltrip Racing had a word in what occurred in the NASCAR Sprint Cup race on Sunday.
According to SB Nation, Michael Waltrip Racing released a statement regarding the incident between the No.15 team and the No.24 team of Hendrick Motorsports, beginning with the on track feud between Clint Bowyer and Jeff Gordon.
Within the statement MWR mentioned that the team was disappointed about the incident and that all emotions came out to surface.
“The goal of Michael Waltrip Racing is to be a championship-level organization both on and off the track,” said the MWR statement. “The on-track incident which occurred during Sunday’s NASCAR Sprint Cup race at Phoenix International Raceway was extremely disappointing and brought raw emotions of a long and hard championship battle to the surface.”
MWR also stated that besides emotions taking over, whatever occurred on the track was out of their control.
“Through we generally cannot control certain actions on the track, the unfortunate reactions off the track Sunday did not live up to the professional standards in which Michael Waltrip Racing expects all of its representatives to live by,” said MWR.
“We commit to our sponsors, our manufacturer, our fans and NASCAR that we will do so in the future.”
Following the incident Bowyer finished in 28th and Gordon in 30th. In the points standings, Bowyer currently sits in fourth and Gordon in 10th .
