Danica Patrick has certainly dealt with a lot of hype in her life. She is going to run the full NASCAR schedule this season and she is off to a great start. On Sunday, she became the first woman to win a pole in NASCAR and it just so happened to be for the Daytona 500.

Strangely enough, not a lot of people are shocked by this.  She had a fast car in all of the practice sessions and she certainly deserved the honor of starting first for next Sunday’s race.  When you have a car that is that fast, you should certainly be making headlines.  If she is able to handle it during the Duel races on Thursday, she will lead them to the green flag on Sunday.

Although she is getting more attention for her personal life, she does have the potential to have a successful career.  I think that once people start treating her more as a driver than as a female, she will start to take off.  Of course, she still has a few barriers to break.  She needs to earn respect on the track and that comes with time and good finishes.

It will be interesting to see how she fares next Sunday.  She crashed during the 500 last year, so we really have no idea how she will fare if she has to drive an entire 500.  It is not just any race.  It is the Super Bowl of NASCAR, so you want to do your best during this.  She’s certainly off to a great start.
