The NASCAR Nationwide Series has made its way to the second race of the year at Phoenix International Raceway and it will be Kyle Busch leading the field to the green flag.
During Saturday’s qualifying session for the Dollar General 200 at Phoenix, Busch won the pole when he posted a lap of 133.057 mph. The pole win on Saturday is Busch’s first pole of the year and fifth one at the track. Joining Busch on the front row will be Brian Vickers followed by Matt Kenseth, Trevor Bayne and Justin Allgaier to round out the top five.
Ausitn Dillon, Jimmie Johnson, Aric Almirola, Brad Keselowski and Kevin Harvick posted qualifying laps to secure themselves a starting spot within the top 10.
During Saturday’s qualifying session 40 drivers each made laps around the track but no driver was left out of the race as each driver was secured into one of the 40 spots in the race.
Heading into Phoenix the real season begins for the Nationwide Series drivers as during the season opener at Daytona International Speedway featured many racers from different series. Along with the other drivers the race winner was Cup Series driver Tony Stewart. Going into the race Saturday many drivers will be eager to become the first Nationwide Series regular to capture a win.
The race at Phoenix will have plenty to race for as Sam Hornish Jr. heads into the race with the lead in the point standings after a second place finish at Daytona. For Elliott Sadler it will be the return to the track where he lost the championship last season and he will be looking for redemption.
