Las Vegas Motor Speedway Prerace Notes
The NASCAR Sprint Cup Kobalt Tools 400 is Sunday March, 10th at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. The race will be broadcast live on Fox starting at 2:30 PM ET. Don’t forget to spring ahead or you will miss the first hour of the race. Here is some news that has happened before the race.
Practice and Qualifying was rained out on Friday. The field will start the race according to the rule book based on 2012 owner points because there was not practice and qualifying was rained out. 2012 NASCAR Sprint Cup champion Brad Keselowski will lead the field to green. Mike Bliss driving the No. 19 did not have owner points from 2012 and is the lowest in owner points in 2013 so will miss the race.
If you are paying attention there was a practice on Thursday for the new Generation six car. That practice was not an official practice for this race. That is why it did not count for this race and why the cars will not line up based on the practice speeds from Thursday.
They were able to have two practices on Saturday. Kasey Kahne in the No. five Farmers Insurance Chevrolet led the first practice with a speed of 188.134, Greg Biffle was second, Kyle Busch third, Kevin Harvick fourth and Carl Edwards fifth. David Reutimann got loose and lightly tapped the wall. The team was able to repair the car.
In the second practice Martin Truex Jr. led all drivers with a speed of 188.383 followed by Carl Edwards, Kyle Busch, Jimmie Johnson and Mark Martin. Denny Hamlin spun off of turn four but did not hit anything.
The weather is projected to be perfect for racing and the track is in good shape from yesterday’s Nationwide race.
